Bone Tomahawk (2015)
They closed the doors!
Me of the few times I've ever seen any films close a Flipping door! Roughly 35 minutes in and Kurt Russel goes out of his way to shut a door! Freaking brilliant, revolutionary filmmaking, hopefully filmmakers will take a cue from this movie and have more doors closed on set, 10/10 will watch Kurt Russel shut that door again.
Daybreak (2019)
If you like all things apocalypse and CW shows
So, as the title suggests, this show feels a good bit like CW shows, which personally I'm not a fan of for several reasons that are eliminated in this series. The fact that it's a Netflix show means theres less censorship so instead of CW telling the viewers the show is darker and grittier and more messed up then it actually is, it actually shows what it wants too. Also there's no reason to push out 24 episodes in a season so more if the fat is trimmed. That being said, what this show is is a fun angsty teen dramady with some bloody killings. It's pretty funny, has plenty of apocalypse film references and many of the tropes of teen romps and other films related.i personally enjoy this show quite a bit as it is still just a bit fresher than some other schlock saturating the airwaves. Anyways if you like kinda cheesy teen romps and apocalypse stuff, I'd give this one a chance, if you don't want those two things mixed, then go ahead and pass
An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn (2018)
Odd and not for everyone
This film is definately strange and not for all viewers, it has a bizarre amount of over acting, just a weird sense of humor. If you can get into that sort of thing then it is enjoyable to watch, Jemaine and aubrey plaza are fantastic as always. Don't expect anything normal though.
Happy Death Day (2017)
it couldnt make up its mind but it had good moments
If your overly critical of films, especially cliched half explained slashers, then this is not the film for you. yet if you can find enjoyment in movies simply because of a few well done moments out of the whole than this one is worth the watch. personally, i may only watch once or twice ever again, which isnt saying much for me, yet i did greatly enjoy a few of the scenes. the first 40 minutes or so felt like the cliched groundhog day/slasher film type you might expect from the description, yet a scene right about at the 40 min mark when i was ready to turn it off, promised a quirky self awareness and meta aspect to the movie i wasnt expecting to be revealed that far in. That feeling didnt develop as i wanted, though my attention was still grabbed, my prediction of the killer was still wrong, though it was a back up of mine, and not one of those that would be impossible to guess, which i enjoy in slashers since usually its someone never mentioned or is made to be unimaginable as the killer. however it wasnt a super fresh take, nor did the scenes in the movie have much cohesion as far as feel and many things were left unexplained, like why the heck was the boy leaning under his desk every morning!?!?!? shes looking for suspicious people the whole movie yet never asks him what hes doing!?! either way, despite the many problems and issues i had with the film, it something i dont regret watching, it made me laugh and smile at parts even if it made me upset at others. if your a fan of slahers and the horror genre, i recommend it, if your overly critical and only want films you view as "art" then i certainly recommend you avoid this movie.
Take Me (2017)
Not bad
Going into the film expecting very little its hard to be let down. i wouldn't say this movie surprised me in any way but i was pleased with my choice to watch it. it had a decent mix of humor and seriousness, a well done production that kept me guessing if i was right in my idea of how it would end up or not. The main actors had a fairly good chemistry and worked well together. If you like little romps that don't take themselves too seriously but aren't at the same type gut busting hilarious than this may be for you. Its worth a watch if your the type that will enjoy a semi decent film despite its minor flaws.
Tengen toppa gurren lagann (2007)
An excellent testament of human will
First off, the fan service is slightly heavier than most anime series i tend to follow, but this show is much more than the fan service. It is an excellent observation of human survival, that reminds me of elements of Doctor Who when it comes to human perseverance. it has elements of many things but its all compressed into 27 episodes, minus one thats just a recap. it covers a lot of character growth and many epic fight scene. every few episodes seem to increase the magnitude of each fight and power wielded by each party but somehow it holds together and stays inspiring despite the eventual outrageous of each struggle, which also reminds me of the ridiculousness of DBZ with the many levels of furthering the super saiyan state but this anime holds that elevation together with much less of a feeling of the writers floundering for ideas. In my book its an excellent watch and has a little bit of something for everyone, a bit of humor, a bit of serious emotions in the mix and a bit of fan service if thats your thing.
