The L Word (2004)
Engrossing
So, I have a thing for LGBT movies/shows because popular film rarely portrays leading gay/lesbian couples. I was particularly drawn to this show because of the amount of functional, non-heterosexual leading characters it contains. That being said, this show has a lot of lesbian sex scenes... and I mean A LOT. This doesn't detract from the show, but in the first season, it seems like it is all about the sex. After the first season, the story line really picks up. You start loving certain characters (Alice) and despising others (Jenny- what was up with this chick??). The lives of these women catch you off- guard at times, but each character is unique and most are love-able. Shane was my personal favorite character. The show really captures her inner struggles and how they make her who she is.
The final season was by far my favorite. This show is unlike most, with it's variety of characters and how it forces the audience to form deep, emotional connections to these ladies. Watch the show and see a tangle of sex, lies, and everyday dilemmas of a group of wildly interesting lesbians, bisexuals, heterosexuals, and transvestites. Interesting, colorful, and has the coolest darn theme song/opening in the history of all things TV.
Garfunkel and Oates (2014)
Those Songs!!! LOL
I saw this show on Netflix and as a HUGE fan of both Simon & Garfunkel and Hall & Oates, I was drawn to it and decided to see what it was about. At first I wasn't too sure; I expected another one of those We're-Trying-To-Be-Funny-But-It-Just-Isn't-Working- That-Way shows that has the stereotypical duo that have wild adventures that certainly wouldn't happen in real life. HOWEVER, this is NOT one of those shows.
Garfunkel and Oates made me laugh hysterically a few times (SPOILER: especially when the guy "accidentally raped" Kate when she fell asleep while having sex with him and the guy said he felt like he needed to prevent a rape in order to be zero on the Rape Scale, LOL) and other times I released a chuckle or two. Their songs are seriously relate-able ("Handjobblandjob I don't Understand Job" was particularly so, hahah) and hilarious if you actually pay attention to the words. "Sports Go Sports!" was funny as heck, too.
I did not even realize they were a real Youtube duo until the show and I ended up watching almost all of their videos and laughing even more after I finished the show.
Overall, a really great and believable show to watch. Garfunkel and Oates have captured my attention as an avid TV show/Film watcher. A MUST-WATCH!
