Doctor Strange (2016)
Usage of Microsoft Edge is the most unrealistic part
Doctor Strange is a pretty good movie. Though, it heavily relies upon CGI. There are also several jokes that fall flat on their face (like the Beyoncé joke).
The movie starts with the transition from surgeon to mastering magic. I felt that this happens quite quickly. The second half of the movie is the group of good wizards fighting against the bad wizards. The bad guys only have surface level motivation for their actions. It is a shame they don't have more dept.
If you suspend your disbelief the movie is quite enjoyable. There is a scene in which Dr Strange uses Microsoft Edge, which I found to be the most unrealistic part of the entire movie.
Get Carter (1971)
Overly complicated plot
Michael Caine is great and all. However, there are way too many characters and the movie is too subtle at times that it is difficult to follow along with the plot.
An example is when he finds the porno with his niece. I had already forgotten her (she is a minor character), and did not notice the forced sex off camera. Then he all of sudden attacks the girl in the bathtub. The whole movie I am grasping at straws trying to figure out who is who and what is going on.
Halfway through, I paused the movie to look up the plot summary on Wikipedia. I ended up watching a couple of scenes and then reading the summary for the rest of the movie.
Fatal Attraction (1987)
Good thriller
Fatal Attraction is a good thriller. Though, I found Beth way more attractive than Alex. So, Michael's attraction to Alex was not that believable for me. While watching the movie I actually figured she would kill herself after he had left, and he would get the blame. On recommendation of other reviewers I looked up the original ending. I was pleasantly surprised to find the ending I was expecting. Although, that ending is more logical, it it less thrilling than the one we ended up with in the movie. So, it makes sense why they went with that.
The Andromeda Strain (1971)
Great until the last 10 minutes
The Andromeda Strain is a great movie for all the reasons outlined by the other reviews; it's a grounded sci-fi movie. I especially like how they research the strain step by step, because of it's relevance to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, all this realism falls apart in the last 10 minutes of the movie. It's actually quite sad.
First Man (2018)
Missed Potential
Yes it's interesting to show the family side, but I found this movie really boring. Eventhough it was one of the most exciting moments in history. They should have shown more about the spacerace and the tensions with the USSR. There was also nothing about how Armstrong was enthusiastic about flying from an early age. Also when his daughter died, I didn't even know who she was; there should have been more time establishing the family and the character motivations at the beginning. Armstrong's wife also seemed like she was only annoyed with him.
Las hijas de Abril (2017)
Just bad
No idea why this movie is standing at an average of seven on IMDB. Normally drama movies are quite reasonable, but this movie is just bad. Let me explain, I won't go to much into detail, inorder to not "spoil" the movie.
Valerie and her sister live in a beach house, their mother lives quite far away and was pregnant of her first child at the same age as Valerie. This is why Valerie doesn't want to get her mother involved. When her mother does eventually get involved it turns out that the parents of her boyfriend also didn't know about the child. Instead of helping Valerie and her boyfriend, their parents work together to take the child away from them.
Valerie's mother tells her boyfriend what her plan is and our hero is faced with a choice; keep the secret or reveal the secret to his girlfriend. So what do you think he does? He has intercourse with Valerie's mother and moves in with her, yeah this movie is on the level of 'The Room' from 2003. If you want to know what happens after that (you don't), go see the movie yourself. While watching the movie you don't care about the protagonists whatsoever and in the second half you can just predict what's gonna happen next.
