Zeros and Ones (2021)
Took me four hours to watch
This "movie" took me four to watch because I kept rewinding trying to figure out what was going on.
What was that? I have watched the ending three times. I still don't get it.
What did the sex workers (slaves???) have to do with the story?
What's up with the Asian and Russian tie ins?
Weirder than Blue Velvet.
Was it trying to be trendy or ???? Apocalypse Now had a weird vibe at times but it worked! This didn't work, at least not for me. YMMV.
I'm going to give it a rest and come back in a few weeks and watch it again, maybe it'll click.
I need 37 more characters. 17, 14,
Good night........
Murder at Yellowstone City (2022)
Disappointing
What the heck went wrong? This movie had so many things going for it, scenery, sets, costuming, experienced actors, and even the livestock. The story could have been very good. The basics are there, it's too bad there was no director or rehearsals, or or or. The description makes it sound interesting but turns out the story has nothing to do with a character having been a slave.
There is no character depth. Any one of the actors could have played any of the rolls. One of the actors seemed like he'd been pulled in from the street, zero connection to anyone else and his lines made little sense.
I've seen many of the actors in other movies and tv series. Other than the one pulled from the street, the actors seemed to have experience. This could have been good.
Wrong Place (2022)
Sad for Bruce Willis-let the man retire
This movie was pretty much a waste of time. .
The acting was that of a B movie or a Hallmark or Lifetime channel formula/generic show. The story could have okay, too bad it fell flat.
Bruce Willis is a wonderful actor but he shouldn't have been in this movie. Let the man retire with dignity.
They cast a 30 something year old as a teenager and it doesn't work. No way does she remotely pass for a teen. She pretty but miscast
The actors almost seemed like they'd never seen each other until the camera rolls. Timing was off. Stuff just didn't make sense. Man shoots a bigger man and then picks the body by up himself as if its 5# sack of potatoes and drops it into a hole? Guy gets shot, wakes up in a hole and walks through the wilderness to where the action is?? And gets there in time to help?
Bruce Willis is a wonderful actor but he shouldn't have been in this movie. Let the man retire with dignity.
Blackstone (2009)
Camera work ruined this show
The story lines and acting looked promising but the horrible camera work is so distracting you can't enjoy the show.
The camera is intentionally shaking at all times. If that's not bad enough, they do jerky zooming in and out.
Novecento (1976)
Disappointing: Gratuitous crotch shots of children
I usually love historical dramas. This was awful. Usually love Robert De Niro and Gerard Depardiue, but even they couldn't save this movie.
Mixed bag on acting, some great some melodramatic.
Unnecessary shots of children's genitalia. Yes, kids really do play "show me yours, I'll show you mine" and doctor etc. Does the camera need to zoom in on a kids crotch? No. Added nothing to the story.
Unnecessarily graphic slaughter of a live hog. Adds nothing to the story, could have just shown reaction from cast.
Unnecessary to have Donald Sutherland strap a kitten to a wall with his belt and then run head first into kitten crushing it and splattering blood on his face. His character's cruelty can be depicted in numerous ways other than torturing a kitten.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
Excellent, on par with Boardwalk Empire,
On par with Boardwalk Empire, Deadwood, The Wire and Vikings
Great acting, not a dud in the bunch.
The music is very catchy yet fits the 1920's industrial setting Sets, costuming etc are good too.
Looking forward to the next season finally making to the US. I rewatched the entire series in anticipation of the final season only to find out it it's not being released in the US until, ?who knows when?.
Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
Genuine look at life elsewhere but everywhere
Excellent movie. Set in a part of rural America many of us have heard of but don't really know.
Features a family with issues many have heard of but don't really know or admit to if we do know.
Black November (2012)
Same movie as Black Gold.
Why does this movie have two different names and two different "looks"? It's a good movie and everyone need to know what's really going on, what our government is allowing to go on around the world. People around the world either love Americas or totally hate us. Stuff like this is why. Arrogant corporations exploiting second and third world countries. Getting tax credits to it. The acting was okay. I overlooked it because the story was so good. The music for the credits was not appropriate. This is a serious subject, why play an upbeat song? I'm one of those people that actually sticks around for the credits. The music was distracting.
