This was disappointing after the entertaining romp of Episodes IV - VI.
Issues: 1. Too much plot for 3 hours - enough for 2 films.
2. Everyone rushed to finish their lines - see above.
3. Lucas did NOT direct for 22 years before Episode I. Samuel L Jackson is Mr. Personality, but Lucas kept him boring - Razzie-worthy!
4. Anakin is unbelievable. He whines like a spoiled kid: "Gee, Obi-Wan, can I have the Porsche for a hot date?" Young Vader would bleed resentment like Dylan Klebold or Timothy McVeigh.
SPOILERS: 5. The story concept (a republic destroyed from inside) makes sense, but most plot twists defied political or military logic. If Sidious controls the Senate, why have Dooku start a war? Why bother to kill Padme? A fantasy world has different physics, but human motivations must make sense for a story to work.
Our kids wanted to see this. They gave up when Anakin slaughtered the Tuskens. We lasted a 1/2 hour longer, but switched off because we no longer cared.
Brilliant special effects and crazy action cannot overcome a poor story poorly directed.
