When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder (1979)
Disturbed Vietnam Vet terrorizes remote and desolate diner.
This is one of the all time greatest "lost" cult movies. I won't add to the many fine dissertations already posted here, but it has a striking resemblance to another magnificent lost film, "The Incident" with Tony Musante, a baby faced Martin Sheen, and an even younger Beau Bridges. Much of the plot is remarkably the same, except of course one takes place for the most part in a diner, and the other on a NY subway. The suspense, tension and drama is high caliber for both films, as is the quality of the writing and acting. Tony Musante and Martin Sheen are the bullies of "The Incident" but the audience has little or no empathy for them as some might have for Teddy. Check them both out, both remarkable films.
Soldier (1998)
Plot outlines revealed
This movie plot seems to have been liberally lifted from an Outer Limits episode "Soldier" written by Harlan Ellison from the 1960's. The same plot devices, a soldier bred, trained, and owned by the state who knows nothing other than killing the enemy. He is transported to an environment where he is taught about the values of love and family and then defends them against outside aggression. Not very original. Check out the Episdoe, even has the same name as the movie. Starring Michael Ansara from the second season of the original 1960's Outer Limits. I don't think you can deny that this movie was almost stolen from the original episode. I'm surprised that Ellison didn't get screen credit or sue for plagiarism.
