Dr. Phil (2002)
Reprehensible
Dr. Phil is the most deplorable person on television. He exploits people's mental illnesses, addictions and problems for the entertainment of his millions of viewers. He occasionally offers real outside counseling to some of his guests, but not others. I recently watched the show (for the last time) and he had a very troubled woman on as his guest. He did nothing more for her than make sarcastic comments while looking into the camera and trying to elicit laughter from the audience. This woman was clearly emotionally, mentally and intellectually challenged and he had her on for nothing more than a freak show. He is a charlatan and a bottom feeder. What he does every day on his show is at best unethical, but most certainly immoral.
Boyhood (2014)
Do not get the hype
I get that The fact it was filmed over a 12 year period. That Is very unique. The realism was great. The acting was very very good. But nothing interesting happens.
It's a home movie about a dysfunctional family. The reason no one takes home movies about their domestic abuse and divorces is because no one wants to see that, unless there is an interesting story about it. Other than that, nothing else happens in this movie.
The characters aren't even particularly likable or unlikable. You never really get to know them because you see them at different times in their life for a very short period of time. It was like looking through a family photo album of someone you don't know for three hours. No depth into the story or the characters. I love subtlety in a movie, but this was just boring.
I thought I would love this movie but, it's much ado about ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
