Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Exciting!!
I do not understand the bad reviews on this one at all. Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde are amazing! Yes Harry Styles should probably stick to singing but his acting wasn't as horrible as some people claim, and let's not focus on him but on the strong acting of the always lovely Florence Pugh. She more than makes up for his lacking.
It is clear quite early on what is happening in Don't Worry Darling, the Stepford Wives/Truman Show-vibes are strong but nonetheless I got goosebumps from Alice's visions and I was on the edge of my seat second half of the movie. I was so glad with the ending as well, happy that's what they went with. Very enjoyable film, I definitely am gonna recommend this one.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Not that good
Didnt read the book and was not familiar with the story, but as soon as the murdering started I knew who did it and how it was done. Since it's a whodunnit.. it's not that good.
A few random thoughts(and a LOT of MAJOR spoilers!);
-Poirot tells Linnet and Simon there is nothing he can do to help them with Jackie cause she didnt threaten them, but then when she does threaten to shoot Linnet he doesn't call the police or take her gun away from her, no he advices Linnet and Simon to go home
-Linnet fears for her life, but not enough to skip the Cleopatra-show.. also sex on a dangerous ridge while fearing for your life..?
-Andrew confesses he tried to kill Linnet and Simon, ánd stole several millions from her, when he asks Poirot if he will be arrested Poirot tells him no just pay back what you owe and all is peachy!
-Its so obvious the lost red paint and scarf are going to play a big role in the story
-Gal Gadot is actually quite annoying
-The continuous talk of love gets real boring real fast
-When Poirot reveals who the killers are he does not have any hard evidence at all, but the killers immediately confess.. and then commit murder/suicide though they could've easily escaped..
Encanto (2021)
Okay, but nothing special
The colours and vibe of the movie is great, but the story fails miserably. Feels like it's rushed.. the story is as follows(beware, spoilers): a family has magical powers, loses the magic because nana doesn't want to lose it, and then the magic returns, the end! I mean... Couldn't they have put SOME effort into the story? A real shame of you ask me. Still enjoyable cause it's Disney but very forgettable.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Why all the hate????
Did I watch a different movie??? Where do all those bad(and short..) reviews come from? I loved it!!! From Brie's character to Talos' humour to the non-stop-action-story to the inspiring moment where Captain Marvel for the first time has her full power... I got goosebumps seeing her hovering in all that glory! And a female superhero... (without a romantic storyline) such empowerment! It's so important for women to be able to identify with a superhero(now I understand why boys like to dress up as Spiderman/Iron Man/Batman, how weird is it that just now girls can do this)I am in awe of this movie and honestly have no idea where all the hate comes from...makes me wonder how many people actually watched it..
A lot of the bad reviews talk about how Brie wasn't 'likeable' or 'charming' and how she 'didn't smile and laugh enough'....and that, ladies and gentlemen, is EXACTLY why we need movies like this.. did anyone ever complain about Wolverine not smiling enough? Or Batman? The Hulk? Ofcourse not. But they're male...and a female apparently isn't cute, likeable or charming without a fake grin on her face. It is even addressed in the movie when some dude says 'give me a smile'... I guess the message wasn't received by many.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)
A disappointment..
Since I adore Disney, Christmas ánd ballet I figured this movie would be worth the wait! Boy was I wrong..
It starts out great with the owl flying over a winter landscape, I also loved the scene where Clara follows the rope and I thought my waiting for this movie would be rewarded... but from the moment Clara meets the Nutcracker it all goes downhill.
*First the acting; Mackenzie Foy did good, but she was the only one. All the rest was flat and I was annoyed by the acting of the Nutcracker.
*The costumes overall were ok but when I saw Hawthorn with his green eyebrows and Shiver with his plastic icicles I had to keep myself from laughing.
*Then the biggest flaw of them all; the plot. It was all over the place... I was left with so many questions unanswered;
-Why did her mother send Clara to this world? Did she know there was a war? If so, why didn't she go and save the realms? Why did she not want her other children to go see this world?
-Howcome everybody simply believed what Sugar Plum said about Mother Ginger? And what exactly díd she say Mother Ginger had done? Did everybody simply believe Mother Ginger attacked the realm without anybody ever seeing anything?
-What on earth was the point of sending the owl along with Clara?
-Marie said Clara was her best creation...uhh..what about her other 2 children?
-What had happened to all the inhabitants of the realm of Amusements?
-The ballet shown to Clara is the story of how her mother discovered the realms and met the people...but isn't she the one who created all the people?
I could go on and on but you get the gist.
Overall; a pretty picture without any content.
Iliza: Elder Millennial (2018)
Funny stuff
I laughed out loud several times and what more could you want? And to everybody talking about 'not being able to relate'; I am female but that doesn't mean I didn't laugh at Bernie Mac talking about giving his girl the D... comedy is funny or not and Iliza is funny.
