Chaindance (1991)
Greatest Performance by Brad Douriff
I saw this movie for the first time while in college. Watching a flawless performance of a young man with cerebral palsy, for the first time in my young life, caused me to be curious about an actor's performance. Brad Douriff sealed his reputation for me, from the beginning, as one of the greatest Character Actors of our time. From this movie on, I actively looked for movies Brad was in, because I knew it would be amazing! Even when the movie wasn't strong, Brad has given nothing less than his best-his range has been outstanding...from horror movies (He was the best known "voice" for a character (Chucky) ever!) to Science Fiction (Lord of the Rings), to Westerns (Doc on Deadwood)...Douriff has shown nothing but dedication to acting as a Craft....I have been a Brad Douriff fan from the beginning, and I'm sure it isn't over yet!!
Lucifer (2016)
Probably cancelled because you have to think to laugh...
Finally, a show that was not only humorous, but sent the historically accurate of Lucifer as punisher of those who refuse personal accountability was on! You have to be on your historical "Biblical toes" to get half of the humor, which is what made the show special...
But, alas, the public has to think in order to get the details of the show, so TV has to get rid of it. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of being categorized as too simple to get what I'm watching. I must not want to have to think too hard about what I'm watching. The wrong people are deciding what quality entertainment is anymore (ex. The Outsiders)....the only thing limited about me now is my patience with the people in charge! Boo!
The Other Side (2018)
This movie is anything but typical...
If you are a viewer who is open minded enough to overlook the simplicity of the production quality, than this is a pretty good movie. The storyline was good, and the message is the reality of the pressure that some religious parents put on their gay children to "be what they should be, God-fearing heterosexuals, who marry and have children, the perfect family."
Pertaining to the prior review, what it matters to be a "typical all Black cast", really is irrelevant. The point is the story, which is a reality for many Christian families unwilling to accept homosexuality. I felt like the story flowed along, although the comedy fell a little flat for me. Despite that, I honestly wondered at the end of the movie, if the story was inspired by a real life happening. Would I pay to see it in a theater? No. Would I watch it on a rainy afternoon with nothing else to do? Sure, why not. Do I have a problem with a movie containing an all Black cast, given that I am white? Absolutely not. This movie is anything but typical. ..if you are open minded, it is not a bad movie to watch. In fact, it inspires conversation about the difficulties that some gay people have with coming out to their families.
