Trite, silly, far fetched . . .
5 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Many of the story threads are never resolved. The two leads have no chemistry and guess what? They never once kiss on the mouth. The man with college drama experience somehow is too inept to direct the play - only one girl actually performs in the play, there is only one reindeer in the entire move - and just barely. The best wrangler in the state falls down a mountain loses his satellite phone - and coveted ring given to him by his grandmother - in the process sprains his ankle and has to be saved by his - not so anxious to find him - girlfriend - who only kisses him on the cheek. Oh, and on the way to finding him she finds his ring and gets on her knee the same time he does and they ask each other to marry at the same time - then she puts the ring on her own finger - yikes! If you've ever known a real wrangler they're a tough breed and know a lot about animals and surviving in wilderness. The male characters are particularly shallow, weak and under developed. This was one of the worst Christmas movies I've ever seen. One wonders why such a great guy and gifted wrangler would be in love with the lead who is so unappealing, argumentative, domineering and self centered. Just awful.

Alien Highway (2019– )
Great entertainment . . .harmless fun
30 July 2019
This show doesn't claim to be a scientific study in UFO's or aliens - it's just some good people adventure seeking and doing their own research of established rumors, myths and stories within the field. It's meant to be a lightweight fun excursion - and it is. We enjoy the show and expect little more than we would if we were out doing the same thing - 99 precent of the time you find nothing. But sometimes the journey is most of the fun. The characters are great and the series is filmed and scripted well. This show features actual locations and witnesses and that's a heck of a lot better than the horrible Hanger 1. This show is reminiscent of the segments Zukowski did for the "Unexplained Files" show - his best segment being titled "Paranormal Highway." While not quite as good as Unexplained Files - mostly because Bruce Greenwood isn't narrating - but a close companion.

If you liked the original you love this . . .
7 September 2018
This gets a 10 - it is graded within the context of TV in the 70 & 80s and the original show. With the exception of the missing Dr. Kiley - the tone and pace of "The Return of Dr. Welby," is much like the original series - with Robert Young and Elena Verdugo in top form. The script is actually much better than many of the original shows as it features more character development. Furthermore, the dialogue is clever and engrossing and the production quality more detailed and updated. Actors Jessica Walter and Darren McGavin are particularly excellent as is Morgan Stevens. This show is deeper and has more drama, more tragedy than the series - but also the heart, tough love and well informed intelligence - all hallmarks of the original show. Sets, lighting and locations are bit more elaborate and so more believable. It's a shame this pilot didn't sell - it would've been terrific. This made for TV movie featuring a revisiting of Marcus Welby is excellent and if you are a fan of the original show you'll enjoy this immensely.
