After "Frozen" (2013) becomes the #1 highest grossing animated movie of all time, it's expected that Disney will make a fully-pledged media franchise. "Frozen 2" (2019) expands the magical universe of Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff.
The locations are visually arresting. The fjords, the snow-capped mountains, the stormy sea, a forest in constant autumn, the rock giants, we know why Disney spends millions of dollars for this animated film. The songs are well-written and theatrical, although the 'Let It Go" song is still catchier than the 2019 song additions. We learn more of Arendelle's history, including a secret history that reminds us of the movie "Thor: Ragnarok". With greater threats to Arendelle citizens and the newly introduced Northuldra tribe, Frozen franchise has up the ante. The sequel adds up darker twists and turns, such as colonialism, betrayal, and but still a child-friendly fanfare. Expect a happy ending from Disney, but some fans don't agree with a decision of that specific character. Just see it for yourself!

Painstaking research is done for this movie, as it is based on a true story. The movie puts you in the action of sky warfare. This war film perfectly blends action and drama. We experience the thrilling but deadly dogfights and the sorrowful ramifications of casualties on both Americans and Japanese forces. The panoramic shots of the Pacific Ocean, tactical airplane battles, and the chemistry of the actors are the stars of the show. It's a first time that the Disney Princess media franchise has a movie which stars two princesses. "Frozen" has introduced to us to sensational songs that lead us to Last Song Syndrome. The animation is majestic, showing the fictional Scandinavian in its full glory. The characters are relatable. The plot twists are unexpected, which challenges the previous Disney Princess movies. Family love is the biggest star in this feature film, which rekindles the spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas. "Frozen" is a spectacular movie, and Disney may proceed to make this a fully-pledged film franchise.
John Wick Vs. The World in "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum"

After violating a law in The Continental Hotel, John Wick is now on the run for his life after a colossal $14 million bounty is put on his head. Assassins from all walks of life are trying their luck on the fortune.
The action is still over-the-top like with the two previous movies. Sound editing and cinematography are top-notch. New characters are introduced, though we need more room for them to be developed. Some gunfights are happening in broad daylight and too many hitmen are going after him. If the assassin world is supposed to be secret, why are the trained killers exposing themselves to the public? The final scene has made him a superhero, which somehow reminds us that no advanced technology or supernatural element is involved here. But still, the movie is cinematic adrenaline, so I give 9/10 stars.

As John Wick decides to go back for being a retired hitman, paying a debt of gratitude from his past life will deliver him again to his deadly profession. But now a huge bounty is on top of his head. When 2014 movie "John Wick" became a smash hit, expect that a sequel is coming, for sure. But the filmmakers expand the clandestine assassin society, engaging the audiences into the subtle world-building. We see a Harry Potter-like universe without the wands but with guns! The action scenes are beaurifully choreographed like ballet. Kudos to lead actor Keanu Reeves for being very passionate in the role to perform most of his stunts. I personally think characters transcending the black-and-white morality are very engaging, which is well portrayed here. The movie ends with a teaser for a third film. Tick tock for the second sequel!

2014 action movie" John Wick" proves that simplicity is beauty. The story is about a retired assassin who exacts revenge from thugs who have stolen his car and killed his dog. We witness a basic revenge story, but with sensational fight scenes. The movie is so engaging that it doesn't need elaborate set pieces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise and larger-than-life action sequences from the Transformers franchise. The fight scenes are one-take shots so the actor and the stuntmen have practiced the moves like a dance number. It's very obvious that Lionsgate unlocks another cash cow franchise.

I've enjoyed the previous two movies in its franchise and read the three novels to prepare me for this film. The third novel ends miserably, and creates a storm among fans. I see that the subtitles "Allegiant - Part 1" and "Allegiant - Part 2" are replaced with "Allegiant" and "Ascendant". Major subtitle changes may lead to major film adaptation changes. "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" proves it.
Tris, Four, and their friends go beyond the wall amidst the chaos in their home city Chicago. They arrive in the mysterious Bureau of Genetic Welfare, and there they discover a bigger battle to fight.
I really love the action sequences, some good drama, well-done romance, great pacing, and themes. The film talks about diversity, discrimination, human nature, society, science, and genetic engineering. GE is very controversial right now, with its perks and perils. If some youth don't like historical films about prejudice because they think they're boring, tell them to watch this sci-fi action film because it's fast-paced and action-packed. The message is subtly conveyed, not slapped to your face. Watching the film's diversion is quite shocking. However, I highly like it. Splitting a final book in a series into movies meets mixed reaction. But I think it's allowed more time for the novel to unravel.It's fine with me because I enjoyed the movie.
The film ends with a cliffhanger, which is very common in movies of film series. The ending feels like from a horror movie because I was shocked with it that I jerked in my seat! Haha! I can't wait for "The Divergent Series: Ascendant" to come out on June 2017!

I discovered "Gods of Egypt" when it was suggested by "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" trailer. It's very attractive for a fantasy action adventure movie. A story in the ancient Egypt is very refreshing to me, especially featuring gods instead of mummies. February feels like a passive month for movies, where usually romance and drama films dominate. Thankfully, this awesome movie is released.
Set, the god of the desert, has taken over Egypt. Mortal hero Bek joins forces with Horus, god of the sky, to restore peace and order.
It's a visually stunning movie from start to finish. For a 140 million USD film, this is impressive. Fight scenes are well- choreographed. Music is great. Set pieces and props are intricately detailed. I like the scenes featuring the giant serpents, the goddess of love Hathor, the god of wisdom Thoth, the Sphinx, and the booby traps. There's also a memorable scene where the afterlife is featured, where the dead will offer gold heavier than the white feather to enter the next life. The movie also immerses you into the Egyptian environment.
However, I just don't like how the main cast is mostly white. Ancient Egypt is composed of Blacks and Arabs. I understand that the studios are betting on Gerard Butler for his "300" and "Olympus Has Fallen" movie successes. He's prominently shown in trailers and TV spots, even though he's a villain. Also, some scenes heavily rely on CGI instead of practical effects. The armors of the winged creatures, who are Set and Horus, feel like taken from a video game. A scene where Set is riding a chariot feels CG-dependent. I guess they should have used CG to be the icing and not the cake base.
On a lighter note, I appreciate Lionsgate and Alex Proyas's separate apologies for the casting choice. Probably Australia's rules for tax incentives and relying on well-known actors are primary factors. They're humble enough to admit their shortcomings. I love the film. I'm actually delighted that this comes out on Feb. 24, just three days after my birthday! It's a gift! If they include a racially diverse cast for a sequel, I'll see it with greater excitement.

The Fire Burns Brighter in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1"

There are some complains that they say this third film has less action scenes than the previous ones. Well, I guess the actual Hunger Games is missing. I feel the same way but drama overrides action here. Substance weighs heavier than style in this third entry in the series.
Katniss arrives in the catacombs of District 13, which people believe is destroyed by the Capitol. The rebellion is rising, and it asks for her volunteerism. Meanwhile, her loved ones are captured by President Snow.
I love how the actors are great. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson really shine in this movie. There are less action scenes, but there's more setting buildup, especially for District 13, a new location. I love how Lawrence tries her best to sing "The Hanging Tree", the rebellion song from the book. It's nice she did herself instead of passing it to other professional singers. I applaud her dedication. Give her a Grammy! Haha!
Splitting the book into two movies has allowed more room for the story. If you read the book, you'll appreciate it a lot.

The Spark Begins a Revolution in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"

It's nice that the sequel came out only a year later after the first one. The trailers just show bigger set pieces and SFX for the movie. And it's great that the trailers are honest. The follow-up increases the stake for everyone, including audiences.
Katniss and Peeta embark on a Victory Tour across Panem. They realize that their actions in the 74th Hunger Games inspire an uprising from the districts. Announcing the 75th Hunger Games will either encourage or discourage the rebellion.
Well, the 75th Hunger Games is kept secret by the book. But unfortunately, the trailers will tell you about it. I'll stay quiet about it. I'll let you know it by yourself. The movie is like 60% drama and 40%. Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress. She truly is deserving of an Oscar. I love how the arena becomes bigger and deadlier than the previous one. I love the twists of the arena itself.

The dystopian genre is refreshing to me. It's hard to present that, especially for PG-13 movies. I love how "The Hunger Games" bring a satisfying dystopian sci-fi action adventure movie.
The story happens in the ruins of what once known as North America, called in their time as Panem. Its government the Capitol requires a girl and a boy, called Tributes, from each of the twelve districts to send to the Hunger Games, where only one will come out alive. Katniss Everdeen volunteers for her younger sister Primrose. She meets her co-tribute Peeta Mellark, who has saved her from hunger for giving her a piece of burnt bread.
I like how the movie deals with a totalitarian government. It's unusual for a teen movie to talk about it. The action scenes are okay, but mixed with drama. Children ages 12-18 are forced to fight against one another for survival, which includes killing. It also tackles entertainment, like reality TV. I just hate the shaky camera. It's dizzying.
There's a cliffhanger. So expect for a sequel, and I'll see it.

Defy Reality in "The Divergent Series: Insurgent"

"The Divergent Series: Insurgent" once again gets hate from some book fans who complain about changing the book. In the book, there's a hard drive that contains the message. In the movie, it's replaced with the box that contains all sims of five factions. It's being done to reduce screen time, as the novel is quite long.
The movie picks up where "Divergent" leaves. Tris and her allies try to hide from a faction leader named Jeanine. A mysterious box is kept at Erudite, which contains a message from the founders of Chicago. Only a Divergent can open the box and unleash the truth about the past.
I love how this film surpasses the previous one in action sequences and some good amount of drama. My favorite scenes are the Amity chase scene, the Dauntless sim, and the Amity sims. The viewers also explore the settings of Amity, Candor, and the Factionless. I love the city-shattering scenes in Amity sims. The Dauntless sim is remarkable. It's where a flying burning house is prominently shown in trailers, and that's like a dream sequence but still very stunning to see. It's also notable that some characters' loyalties are confusing. Who can you trust? It's hard to tell.
The ending is quite a shock. I'm very eager to see the follow-up movie, "The Divergent Series: Allegiant". Hooray, Initiates!

I don't understand the hate on this film. Not loyal on the book? Well, I think some changes, additions, and omissions have to be made to fit a novel for a full-feature film. Clichéd young-adult movies? What do you call the Marvel movies then? I'm gonna review this for what I've seen. I'll be fair to judge this on its content, not on loyalty or formula.
In "Divergent", Tris grows up in a world where society is divided into five faction based on virtues. She discovers to be a Divergent, not fitting to only one faction. Her seemingly utopian world becomes a dystopian one. This film is very relatable to audiences ages 13-21. This is the stage where we wanna know where we belong and what we wanna do with our lives. The Faction System is a thought-provoking idea. What if you'll value faction over blood? Friends over family? I love the world-building invested on Abnegation (selfless), Dauntless (brave), and Erudite (smart). I love the action scenes. I'm impressed with Shailene Woodley and Theo James's athleticism to perform most of their stunts. I love how the plot runs. It's not too slow or not too fast.
If you wanna enter a new world that is very close to our real one, watch "Divergent".

I've read the three books of "The Hunger Games" trilogy and that somehow prepares me for this. I realize that this film adapts the third section, "The Assassin", of the "Mockingjay" book. The concluding movie is great! Here's why.
In "The Hunger Games:Mockingjay Part 2" , Katniss leads the thirteen districts of Panem in the rebellion against the Capitol, and where she aims to ultimately kill President Snow.
I love how the characters are explored, with their good and bad sides. They don't come up as the two-dimensional heroes and villains. Their acts and emotions flesh them out better. If you're a fan who wants every scene in the book included, well, splitting the book into two movies allows that. Books are longer than movies, so not all parts of the book will be adapted for the film. The pacing is good. It's not this high-octane action film, but a war film that deals with both warring sides: District 13 and the Capitol. Action sequences and dramatic scenes blend well. Political themes are perfectly inserted in this sci-fi war film. This is a teen-powered franchise, and it's nice that teens can connect Panem to our real world, especially in countries where corruption, oppression, and terrorism reign like king.
I appreciate the ending. It gives me mixed feelings about happiness, sadness, frustration, and anger.

"Ouija" is truly a Philippine contribution to the Exceptional Asian Horror Genre!

Asian horror first came to spotlight when the Japanese horror movie "Ringu" has become very popular with the Western world. Since then, "A Tale of Two Sisters", "Ju-on: The Grudge", and "The Eye" followed. Western horror relies on horror violence. Meanwhile, Asian horror relies on mysterious atmosphere and scary music, making its own name. "Ouija" is another addition to the Asian horror genre.
Half-sisters Aileen (Judy Ann Santos) and Romina (Jolina Magdangal) along with their cousins Ruth (Rhian Ramos) and Sandra (Iza Calzado) play the Ouija board in their hope to talk to their deceased grandmother. Unfortunately, they summon a deadly spirit.
I like how the film develops the characters' connections to one another. Shooting in Camiguin is a good idea, adding up to the lonely atmosphere. Building the scary aura is at good pace. Jump scares are adequately used, but not overused. The climactic scene is intense. Plot twist is very amazing. If you've watched the Thai horror film "Alone", it may somehow remind you about this film. By the way, some people hate this "copying" Sadako. Well, the black hair girl ghost is common across Asian horror. I just don't understand why the hell they're complaining.

The show features different topics. They tackle pop culture, recent news, interesting stories, Philippine culture, and even foreign cultures. Soho excellently leads the stories. I'l have to praise their researchers and writers too. They're doing amazing jobs.
What I love most about this show is that they're neutral with the Philippines. They feature its good and bad attributes. After all, life is colorful. Cheers for KMJS team!

Ryzza Mae Dizon is the grand winner of the Little Miss Philippines 2012, a segment of "Eat Bulaga". She is notable for her declamation piece "Ang Unang Paglipad" (The First Flight) where she's dressed up as a bird. Since she is a "batang bibo", or an outgoing kid, she lands a showbiz career and gets a talk show.

I massively applaud its journalists Jay Taruc, Kara David, Howie Severino, and Sandra Aguinaldo for their neutral, comprehensive, and brave documentaries. They research all angles, promising their neutrality. The female members David and Aguinaldo are remarkable for not complaining about dirty and dangerous environments they explore. I guess they know what they really signed up for. They can match what CNN and BBC can do. I love you guys!

Most trivia game shows seem to ask trivial questions. "Celebrity Bluff" changes the game! The show incorporates a trivia game show, comedy, romance, and celebrities.
The show involves three single-players, but later on three pairs play against one another. They engage in a true-or-false game with a twist. Can they trust their chosen Gangnammm, the person who gives them an answer? The second stage involves unscrambling words, and the Gangnamms give out hilarious clues to the answers. The third round, which is only played by the winning pair, requires choosing four correct options out of six. If they pass the third round, they move to fourth round, where in the correct answer to the P500,000 jackpot question is one of the four correct options.
Eugene Domingo, the main host, is romantically linked to her co-host and Gangnammm Jose Manalo. Wally Bayola and Brod Pitt (Isko Salvador) act as the other two Gangnammms. Later on, Bayola was replaced by Boobay. The four hosts engage in comedic skits related to the questions and they sometimes pull in the celebrity players.

Oh my God! "Eat Bulaga" started in 1979. This 2015, the show is celebrating its 36th anniversary. This age makes the show the longest running one in the Philippines of all time. Rival networks try to compete against but nothing succeeds. Its producer TAPE, Inc. and its distributor GMA Network, Inc. should nourish and protect this gem of Philippine entertainment.
The show has a hell lot to show in the first place. They never seem to run out of ideas. Notable segments are "Little Miss Philippines", "Laban o Bawi", "Kontrapelo", "Itaktak Mo", "Mr. Pogi", and "Juan for All, All for Juan". They also popularized novelty songs, such as "Laban o Bawi", "Itaktak Mo", "Shembot", and "Jump, Jump, Jump, Brother", to name some of these. The show also engages in charity, as they give monobloc chairs made from plastic bottles and scholarship grants to intelligent students. "Eat Bulaga" takes brave steps in starting out "Super Sireyna Worldwide", a transwoman beauty pageant that involves contestants from all over the globe. They also introduce foreigners into the Filipino culture in "You're My Foreignoy" and "You're My Foreignay".
In celebrating their 36th birthday, they present the "kalyeserye", a telenovela which infuses melodrama, comedy, and impromptu and takes place in the streets during "Juan for All, All for Juan" segment. "Angels & Demons" Outshines Its Predecessor

It's an expectation that a successor has to exceed its predecessor. "Angels & Demons" is the sequel to the "The Da Vinci Code", even though the "The Da Vinci Code" book is published after the "Angels & Demons" book. I guess the producers redesigned this movie as a sequel. Well, this feels like a quasi-sequel. It's also great that this film outshines its predecessor.
Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is summoned by the Vatican to help them understand the symbols which are coming from the Illuminati, an old enemy of the Church. A CERN scientist, Vittoria Vettra (Ayelet Zurer) joins him to save four kidnapped cardinals and the entire Vatican from Illuminati's retribution.
The film starts at morning, and the terror begins at 8pm. Every second matters for Langdon and his crew as lives are at risk. The pace is apparently faster than "The Da Vinci Code". It's impressive that most of the scenes are shot at studios and not in the Vatican, as the filmmakers are probably prohibited. Also, this feels like a film that pushes the PG-13, so watch out if kids are watching. Red herrings and Chekhov's guns are present so prepare for a hell out of revelations later.
I'm not judging this film if it follows the book. I'm judging this based on its genre itself. For a mystery thriller movie, this is great!

This film is truly controversial, just as how the book is. Some people consider the content of this work of fiction as offensive to Jesus Christ. I can remember how this was hot topic here in the Philippines and this got an R-18, the MTRCB's equivalent to the MPAA's NC-17. Guys, guys, this is a mystery thriller film! This is a work of fiction, so calm down.
Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) finds himself framed up for a crime he didn't commit in France. He gets help from Sophie (Audrey Tautou) and Sir Leigh Teabing (Ian McKellen) and together they unravel a secret hidden for two thousand years.
I love how the film behaves like a treasure hunt movie. The film nicely shoots on France and England. I like how good the pace runs despite dropping historical details. The tension burn alive as the deadly assassin pursues Langdon and his companions in the race to find an ancient treasure. I love how red herrings and Chekhov's guns are excellently devised in this film.
See this as a work of fiction and a mystery thriller, okay? Just enjoy the problem-solving the film has to offer.

Taylor Lautner Reigns Supreme in "Tracers"

"Tracers" is a refreshing entry in the action genre. It's not about the multiple explosions or crazy car sequences. Don't expect gunfight or martial arts. This is all about parkour.
The lead actor Taylor Lautner plays Cam, a bike messenger under heavy debt to a Chinese gang. He meets Nikki (Marie Avgeropoulos) and her group who uses parkour in their job. But there's a twist. They don't abide with the law. The big question is how Cam's gonna deal with the door he just went into.
I love the parkour moves. Very amazing and spectacular! I guess Lautner and his co-actors do some of their stunts. Not every actor is willing to do a stunt, so a huge applause goes to them! Awesome editing and lovely music! Did I watch a badass music video? I swear to God this movie rocks!
The ending is loose. It reminds me of "The Fast and the Furious", the first film of the Fast & Furious franchise. I hope this movie gets a sequel. I love this so much!

"Disaster M0vie" Deserves a Big, Fat Zero!

I can't believe I'd spent 90-120 minutes of my life watching this unfunny movie pretending as a comedy-parody movie. It was a lazy afternoon few years ago, and I thought a TV broadcast for this deserved my time. Damn! I was so wrong!
I'm not expecting for this to have a sensible story. This is supposed to be comedy. From start to finish, there's no funny scene. Probably you'll smile with the pop culture and disaster movie references. However, a smile is less than a laugh. I think the scriptwriters are trying to amuse you, but they fail to do so. Are the producers, director, and writers drunk during production? Where's their sense of humor? I have nothing against the actors but the filmmakers-- i hate you for making this movie.
For the people who spent time for this movie, I feel your pain and regret. For those who spent both time, money, and energy for this, you should exact revenge through your review for this "comedy" movie. There must be a big,fat ZER0 on this site for movies like this.
