Scream (1996)
So satisfying.
I had to rewatch the original to get rid of the toxic filth in my head from watching Scream 5 and 6. This film was so satisfying to watch again after suffering through the new ones. Growing up in the 90s I just can't get on board with the new ones and the main reason is the characters in it. I can't relate to those kids from 5 and 6 whatsoever. I find them very cringy and with no spirit. They don't act well and don't get engaged with the story the way the originals did. Especially the main character who seems to be taking the place of Sidney Prescott. She's absolutely horrible. I guess the new generation is taking over and I should be grateful to have the ones I grew up with. These movies will never be the same.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Snowflakes asking for trouble.
A bunch of snobby, entitled, liberal snowflakes rudely enter someone else's town and starts trouble and then acts surprised with it backfires on them. What more can you ask for? I went to a university for four years and had to deal with kids just like these every day in every class and trust me when I say it was brutal. This film is such a satisfying experience for me because for once Leatherface, at least in my opinion, is just defending his home. I'm also from Texas and was glad these Texans stood their ground. These kids asked for trouble. They should have stayed home in their own town. The first thing they do is criticize someone for carrying a gun. Well then stay out of Texas! I think the previews and the reviews are a bit misleading. It's not as bad as it seems.
Scream (2022)
Continued legacy.
My main problem with this movie is Melissa Barrera is basically chosen to continue Neve Campbell's legacy but she has no spirit whatsoever. She's quite literally just reading from the script and not even trying to act. I can't stand her as the new Sidney Prescott, so to speak. I feel like it's an honor to become the new main victim for the series and she's taking it for granted. The sixth Scream just came out as well and I can't say I'm all that excited to try it out since Barrera is once again taking charge. Otherwise the movie wasn't all that bad. I appreciate the action and the gore and as far as I can tell no political agenda, which is an automatic fail when movies include that.
Resident Evil 4 (2023)
Much better than I anticipated.
I watched several videos and looked at many images of this game before release but I honestly couldn't see much of a difference between this and the original. I knew the other remakes were well done, however, so I had confidence it would be a success. The best way to experience it is to just play it yourself and don't fully rely on online content. I'm glad to admit I'm blown away by how entertaining it is, as well as tense and frightening. The village at the beginning had me shaking a little bit once the chainsaw guy came out.
I try not to be a biased person. I love the original for what it is and I'm loving this remake for what it is as well. You don't have to choose one over the other. Just enjoy them both in their own way.
Going Overboard (1989)
Why so serious?
So many angry reviews are cracking me up. It's Adam Sandler's feature debut and I admit it's extremely dumb and pointless but that's what made comedies fun back then. Comedies today compete to be big blockbuster hits and honestly most of them just suck so bad. A Night at the Roxbury was dumb as hell too but no one cared because it's just something goofy and fun to put on. I just paid 95 cents for Overboard and it's not gonna ruin my life. I enjoyed it for what it is. Guess you had to grow up in the 90s to really understand.
