Big Timber (2020)
It Could Be a Fun Show
Where to begin... I started the show on Season 2 on Netflix. I was intrigued on how a small mill could survive. I do not know how many times in each episode they talked about the 1 million dollars they owed the Canadian Government. Probably like 50 per episode. Yah, we get it, you owe them for your screwups the season prior. Every episode repeated every single thing like 50 times, like how they were in debt, but then again, they kept buying things like a $150k boat. If you were really that far in debt would you buy an expensive boat? They hired a couple new guys, cool, but you never saw them again to see how they were doing. This show is a mess. It could have been good to see them more sawing down trees and selling them at the Mill. Instead, we saw them endlessly going after driftwood on an old boat that was going to fall apart "at any minute".
Mighty Oak (2020)
What a Mess!
The trailer for this movie looked really good, so I rented it this weekend. The Good: The story-line for this movie is actually quite creative. The overall thoughts about reincarnation were thought provoking. I thought that Oak (Tommy Ragen) did a really good job acting for a very young man. Taylor (Raven-Symone) was also quite good. Now the Bad: There was so much bad, especially if you were able to watch the whole thing. The production value was akin to a Lifetime Movie that never made it on air. So much bad acting, Darby (Ben Milliken) was horrible, and his character wasn't even needed in the story. Everybody else was just about as bad. But the standout bad actors were the Grandparents. Looked like they were reading from cue cards. Another notable bad acting job was from Valerie (Alexa PenaVega). She is supposed to be some heroin addict, but her whole house always seemed quite tidy, including her bed. She also had a scar on her head that was presumably from 10 years ago, but it looked like it was still bleeding. They mention the value of the guitar as $3000. They mention this no less than 15 times during the movie for some reason. Every time they talk about the guitar, it has to be mentioned that it is worth $3000. Don't waste your money on this.
Love, Victor (2020)
Very Nice Continuation From The Movie
I really liked this series. I think the story-line is great, and the main characters did a really good job. I really liked the character of Felix, and would really like them to explore more of him on the next season. I thought that the actors who played the parents and sister of Victor were weak. The connection to Simon was perfect imo. And the episode where they meet was the best one of the season. I also like that characters like Felix, Lake and Andrew grew out of their stereotypes through the season and weren't one dimensional. For season 2, I hope they focus less on the parents and his whiny sister, and more on the lead story.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
1, 2, 4 Brilliant.
There is so much to like with this series. The storylines are awesome and are relevant to what kids are going through right now. Season 3 was not so good, basically boring, but all of the other seasons were great. Season 4 I think, is the best acted season of the whole series. The character Ani is worthless however. She adds nothing, and her acting is terrible. She is basically an add-on who does nothing to develop the storyline. However, Alex (Miles Heizer) and Tyler (Devin Druid) basically carry season 4. They are such good actors. To sum it up, I love this show, but they had actors/actresses that were not needed, and/or were just annoying. I wish they would have just concentrated on the main characters and dismissed all of the other stuff. So silly.
Outer Banks (2020)
Some Good Episodes & Some Bad
I really like the premise of the show, and it started off very good. The characters were good, however cliched to the point of being laughable. Especially the two "Bad Guys" in the boat. I think if this show went though a round of re-writing to eliminate the silly holes in the story lines, it would have been better served.
The main actors in the show I thought were pretty good, albeit 10 years older than what they were portraying. Which is a common flaw, but some of these people will have grey hair when or if season 2 ever comes out.
The "teens" in the show are shown never using a cell phone. If this was supposed to be modern day, that doesn't make any sense. I guess the premise was the cell towers were down.
Several other things made no sense, but all in all, it was a good binge on a rainy Sunday.
Lost in Space (2018)
A really fun show for the most part
I would rate this a 9 except for one thing. I will get to that later.
This show has some really good action, interaction amongst the family, and some really interesting storylines. I don't normally like sci-fi like this, but I have really enjoyed this series thus far. Except...
Parker Posey. Her character adds nothing to the storyline. Without giving spoilers, I will just say, you will enjoy this series more if you just fast forward through scenes with her. Her character literally adds nothing, and her acting is... not good. They would be better off just pushing her off the ship.
Lost in Space: Shipwrecked (2019)
Good show with one exception
This show would be an excellent series, except... Parker Posey. She adds nothing. Terrible actress in this show. I was hoping they would have killed her off after season 1, but I guess we have to endure her for another season.
Looking for Alaska (2019)
This should have been 10/10 But...
I loved this miniseries. But... There were so many cartoon characters. The Eagle was almost the worst, but The Colonel was the by far the worst. Charlie Plummer saved the series. This could have been the best miniseries of all time, but they concentrated on small things from the book and had some really bad casting choices.
Yesterday (2019)
Lovely Movie with a couple of hiccups
This movie was really really good. Much better than a lot of what has come out recently. The only actor/actress I recognized was Kate McKinnon and she almost destroyed the movie with her cartoon character impersonation of an agent. The acting and story were believable and touching until she came around. If you can somehow stand her "acting" or ignore her character, you will really enjoy this movie.
Lean on Pete (2017)
Amazing on All Levels
I have been waiting for Charlie Plummer to emerge since the great movie King Jack. All he needed was a role worthy of his talents. Charlie has had a life of bad breaks, none of them his fault. Throughout the movie, everything just gets worse from him, except when he gets to spend time with Pete. Everything about the movie is wonderful. Great acting not only from Plummer, but Steve Buscemi as well. Give it a shot. I am sure you will enjoy.
Closet Monster (2015)
Awesome Movie
I am not going to give anything away on this post, but Connor Jessup is, in my opinion, going to be a star. In this movie he portrays a young kid who is struggling with his sexual identity.
I think how he goes through his senior year with his best friend might relate to many people who watch the movie. It did for me.
I think that Connor is going to be a HUGE star in the upcoming future. However, if he just keeps making small movies that are impactful as this one, that is fine with me.
BTW, the talking gerbil was Brilliant!
Shameless: Ride or Die (2016)
Back to what made it great
Every time I think that Shameless has "Jumped The Shark" for the last and final time, they have a great episode like this one.
After pointless episodes of too much Debby, more whining and complaining Fiona and wasting William H Macy's incredible talent, they finally got back to story lines that I like. Obviously the return of Mickey and rekindled love with Ian is a big selling point. That story line is the main reason why I loved this whole series. But finally finding a "real" story line for Lip, who was aimlessly wandering around the past couple of seasons with no real reason to even be on the series. Took them awhile, but what else could they do with Carl? He had a great run of a few episodes this season, but there was nothing else for him really this year. It is refreshing that when they run out of things for a character to do, they send them away until they can come up with something new. I wish they would have figured that out with Debby & Fiona 3 years ago.
It seems like they are actually trying again instead of just trying to get every character into every episode.
