Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Can we please get this off the TOP 250? Thanks
I think Marvel films are fine, I understand loving them I really do. Spider-Man 2 is my personal favourite, but please stop giving these movies a 10/10. Endgame is a 7 at best. It's probably the most flawed Avengers film story wise. It's popcorn fun, but it's like if we let Fast & Furious or Transformers films in the top 250. Meanwhile 2001: A Space Oddisey is lower than Infinity War.
Legion (2017)
The best piece of superhero TV so far, felt like a Wes Anderson/David Fincher lovechild
The new X-Men TV show aired on FX is absolutely brilliant. Really reminiscent of mental illness/ asylum movies and such (Fight Club/ Someone flew over the cuckoos nest). The focus of the show is the psychology of this young mutant boy (David Haller) who is made believe by the people who surround him that he is insane. The show focuses quite a lot on showing David Haller's point of view and how he perceives the world, and leaving questions for the audience about how much it is real and how much isn't. The cinematography and camera work is beautiful (on par with Fargo if not better) it feels like an art-house project (or some sort of Wes Andersonish nightmare). The reason why this pilot episode worked so well in my opinion in comparison to other current Marvel/DC shows (Arrow, Agents of SHIELD, Gotham, Daredevil...) is because it distances itself from the genre and plays as it's unique thing, so if someone who watched it didn't give a f*** about the X-Men of superheroes they could still enjoy the mental thriller that is Legion. If you're not 100% sure if you'll like this show watch the pilot until the end (and I dare you to tell me you're not even a little hooked).
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Captain America, the first good superhero trilogy!
When it comes to superhero movies they rarely succeed at making the whole saga of movies (specifically trilogy) consistently good. Some might argue The Dark Knight Trilogy is perfect I think that's bullshit, The Dark Knight Rises is a mediocre at best and disappointing finale to what could have been a nice Batman Anthology. Other trilogies that haven't come out well are: X-Men Trilogy (Last Stand wasn't good), Spiderman Trilogy (Spiderman 3 doesn't need explanation), Iron Man Trilogy (neither of the sequels are any good), Blade Trilogy (Trinity sucks) and the old Superman and Batman sagas (sagas which the first two films were actually really good, but the two that followed were laughable corny crap).. Civil War is actually even better than Winter Soldier and First Avenger which is insane. The Russo brothers continue Bucky and Cap's story in this very well crafted adaptation (which actually has little to do with the comics). The performances are great, specially Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman as the newcomers to the MCU. The airport scene is even better than people are saying. It's as action packed as a film can get. Every superhero in the movie get's their moment to shine. The only weakness I can think of is the villain.. But we already expect mediocre villains from the MCU, THE MOVIE IS PERFECT ANYWAY!!
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Not a perfect movie, this still is an amazing improvement from Man of Steel.
The first DC Expanded Universe movie introduces us to what might be the best cinematic Bruce Wayne we have seen to date. With the amazing fight the title promises and some early Justice League cameos (and easter eggs from the comics) we get ready for DC catching up to compete with the big guns (Marvel studios and Fox). Despite the awesomeness in this movie it chooses to makes some incredibly ballsy choices that will not be well received by a huge part of the audience (Luthor, Doomsday, the ending..) It's biggest flaw is it's dark and gritty and forgets to be enjoyable for kids like you would expect Batman and Superman's screen debut together would be.
