I Used to Be Famous (2022)
Lovely warm feeling
What a lovely film. Not what I was expecting - it was a much slower approach with no special effects or massive plot lines. However we did get a gentle film with lots of warmth and feelings, music, relationships, inspiration and development. Great acting from everyone involved and a really diverse and inclusive cast. Fabulous London scenery. The main character despite his own flaws still inspires and changes people he meets on his journey and he develops from meeting them. I felt like the film took a very natural plotline and every decision felt in character and not just a plot tool. It was a gorgeous lovely feel good film which made me sob like a baby.
The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)
Cracking film
I love Ryan Reynolds and I love Samuel L Jackson but I wasn't prepared for how much I was going to love this pairing. I love their banter, bickering and insults. The action was incredible with some amazing scenes. Salma was amazing as the passionate, violent wife of Darius. Overall it was just a fabulous film which kept me interested all the way through.
Stay Close (2021)
Binge watched in one go
I hadn't heard anything about this prior to seeing it appear on my Netflix options. The cast were incredible. I adore Cush Jumbo so it was great to see her as the lead. James Nesbitt and Jo Joyner had a good chemistry as the detectives. Sarah Parrish, Richard Armitage and Eddie Izzard were good additions to the cast too. Harry learning the Tiktok dance warmed my heart. I loved woke Bea too - she needed a bigger part. I enjoyed the plot, the pace, the writing, the characters... I binge watched the series in one go and I didn't guess the ending. It was a bit more gorey than I was expecting but not excessively so. I loved it. I watched the trailers after I'd watched the whole series and I'm glad I hadn't seen them first because it would have ruined the unfurling of the story.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Bloody loved it
I hadn't seen any trailers. I had no idea at all what the film was about. I was doing something else at home and needed something on in the background so saw this on Amazon Prime and stuck it on. Wow. Needless to say I didn't get anything else done as I got sucked into the movie. Hugh Grant is amazing. Who knew he had more to him than playing posh toffs? Really great performance. I'm not a fan of Colin Farrell but he was spot on in this role. Matthew McConaughey oozes confidence and smoulders alongside his strong ballsy wife Michelle Dockery.
The plot was fab. The story telling aspect kept me interested. The main characters and smaller characters were all great. The Toddlers were great energy. I loved it all. Highly recommend it
