After viewing every sequel made after "Aliens", and being completely disappointed each time, I was expecting very little from this Alien sequel. And in fact I was mentally bracing myself to be pre-disappointed, before I even saw the trailer for "Romulus."
But what Fedy Alvarez has done in "Romulus" is prove what a truly good director can do when he creates a prequel/sequel from scratch, with just the right spin on the classic film it's based on. Fede Alvarez has admirably succeeded at what the other Alien sequels failed to do: He made an exciting, reasonably gripping, and suspenseful take on the well-worn mythos of the "Alien" franchise.
The cast is very small, even for an Alien sequel, but the characters all manage to do a whole lot with very little dialogue. Particularly impressive in the lead role is Caelee Spaeney as "Rain Carradine" and David Jonnsen as her cyborg brother Andy. Their interactions are a high-point of the film, as the limits of human-cyborg relationships are portrayed in ways that are both novel and occasionally touching. I don't want to ruin this film if you haven't seen it so I won't say much more. But as far as the lackluster history of "Alien" sequels goes, "Romulus" is a suspenseful, innovative, and very watchable addition to the storyline - and there hasn't been one this good since "Aliens".

Only the Ken Burns production of "The Vietnam War" exceeds this documentary in overall excellence. Using contemporary accounts recorded in the early 1980's, this film series consists largely of interviews of the combatants, the leaders, the politicians, and many of the other participants from all sides who experienced the war.
This film is an honest, genuine, and unrestrained story of the effects the Vietnam war had on those who fought it, those who ran it, and those who were among its victims. It chronicles the experiences of those most affected by it, from the average American soldier and Marine who fought it, and the Vietnamese villagers who became its victims, all the way to the political leadership who managed it, including Dr Henry Kissinger himself.
I feel that if you were to watch only one documentary about the Vietnam war, this one wouldn't be a bad choice...and not just because it's narrated by one of my favorite voice-over actors of all time, Will Lyman (The voice of the "Most interesting man alive" adverts).

I played all the Core games when they first appeared, from Tomb Raider 1 through Last Revelation, and consistently replayed them every year or two ever since. So when the "Remastered" games were announced I did something i never do: i pre-bought. And to me it's a slam-dunk, 3 good games for the price of (half) a new one. I haven't stopped playing "Remastered" since it was released.
And as of now (October 2024) the developers Aspyr/Crystal Dynamics announced the release of more Remastered tomb raiders: Tomb 4, 5, 6 drop in early 2025.
If you ever liked the early Tomb Raider games, this is a cheap way to replay the classics with moderately updated graphics and a more realistic looking Lara Croft too.
