Saltburn (2023)
Showed promise but was ultimately disappointing
Saltburn looked interesting. The preview grabbed my attention but the movie fell short. Saltburn is best watched in the background as entertainment while you are doing something else. Dedicating two hours of your life to concentrate on watching this would only invite disappointment.
I expected and wanted MORE from this film: more storyline, more character development, more reveals from the past, more explanation of why Oliver and other characters were the way they were. Without this, it lacked depth and became more and more unrealistic as it progressed.
The really disappointing thing was that it could have been a great movie. The casting and acting were good, the location and set were amazing. It just wasn't put together well and lacked proper development of the storyline.
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023)
Gripping and poignant
Everyone needs to see The Lost Flowers of Alice Heart . The issue of domestic abuse is told in this story with compassion and understanding. It is a real eye opener to how common and tragic this type of violence is, and the deep impact that remains from such experiences.
The series makes for compelling viewing - it is gripping and suspenseful. There is just enough information to keep enthralled while trying to answer the puzzling questions that arrise. You can't help but ask the 'what if' questions around how the lives of the main characters would have been different, if any number of events had unfolded differently, both big and small.
White Wolves: Ghosts of the Arctic (2017)
It could have been magnificent...
This documentary was too graphic to be enjoyable. I have no issue with seeing the realities of nature, of animals hunting one another or of death. However, there was something sadistic about the way the scenes lingered on wolves being killed, wolves in the process of dying or in showing their dead bodies, especially when both adults and wolf pups were portrayed in this way.
There were some good parts, especially seeing the other animals in the Arctic environment, but the good did not outweigh the bad. As a result I would not recommend this film. The creators should consider shifting into horror movies where their skills would be better received.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
A very clever movie
So many people doing horrible things and claiming to be good people. It is art reflecting life.
This movie demonstrates some of the double standards that exist between men and women.
