The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Barely any horror and a slow, bland plot
The only thing this film has going for it is its production. It looks well, it sounds well, its shot well. That's about it.
But as for the plot, the pacing, the characters, the horror and tension its all lackluster and poorly executed.
Directed by David Gordon Green, the guy who ruined the Halloween franchise ending sets his sights on one of the most abysmal sequels I've ever seen. Plot wise, the wise three quarters of an hour could have been cut down to about 20 minutes. It takes them forever to tell nothing.
Horror - well it's just not there. A total of 2 jumpscares, one of which was in the trailer and 2 maybe 3 creepy scenes that could have delivered more of a punch on the tension front.
Way way too many characters that contribute nothing. During the actual exorcism scene there was at least 3 characters who I didn't even know they're name by the end of the film and I couldn't tell you what they brought to the table.
My last criticism is a bit of a horror movie sin, and it's where everyone who helps the main character gets either killed or eviscerated in the process. All while the main charcaters get to live happily ever after. I really don't like when this is done but perhaps the worst example of this, is when they bring back a legacy character after 40 years, an actress who's 91 and the way they treat her is despicable. She gets a mere 10 minutes of screening before her eyes are gouged out, bearing in mind she was trying to live peacefully, she agrees to help the main character and has the most brutal of things happen to her, which just sickened me and annoyed me.
Other than that the film was just too slow, boring, lacked any sort of heart. Massive disappointment.
It Lives Inside (2023)
Theh forgot to put in any horror
This was a big disappointment
Story was so bland and slow, plot dragged along at a snails pace.
There was a love interest side plot that didn't need to be there, and ultimately went nowhere.
It's one of these horror movies where everyone tries to help the main character and they get maimed or killed for it while nothing happens the protagonist.
When the demon was actually revealed it looked so laughable. Like an early 2000s bad version of an Alien. As for any kind of tension or jump scares, they were executed so poorly and happened so rarely. I was yawning waiting for something interesting or scary to happen.
Writing at times felt like is it was a teenager who prevailed no matter what, even at one point getting knocked our only to wake to demon about to eat her friend but he's arbitrarily doing nothing over her till the main girl awakes, so dumb. Why would he wait, there's no reason for him.
Couldn't get into this at all. Only reason I gave it 2 stars is production wise the movie is shot well, sounds and looks well for the most part.
But bland characters, unexplored plot, predictable ending, tedious pacing and severe lack of any horror or tension. Big disappointment.
Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
I loved it, way better than part 4
Insidious The Last Key left a rather sour taste on the franchise, but Insidious 4, The Red Door takes us back to the Lambert Family, 9 years on from the traumatic events of Chapters 1 and 2.
Both dad and son, Josh and Dalton Lambert have been hypnotised to forget all the horror they encountered with the demons from the first 2 films. However, as Dalton goes off to college and Josh decided to go for a health checkup having not felt great since his divorce and death of his mother, both of are provoked to remember their past which slowly starts to seep back into their memories, from there they must once again battle old foes while trying to protect those around them.
This entry does a great job in showing a lot of development for the whole Lambert family. It pushes all their relationships to breaking point while they either turn their backs on each other or try to help each other out. Patrick Wilson directed this installment and he is surprisingly good at keeping the suspense and pacing to an enjoyable amount. The tension and jump scares are scattered perfectly and don't become overbearing. The movie knows when to put the breaks on and throw in a bit of humour. I really like this chapter in the Insidious universe and is now my 3rd favourite.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Did not expect to like it THIS much
This film took me by surprise and I loved every second of it, I've played D&D a couple of times before but wouldn't call myself a regular yet this delivered for novices a d superfans to the game. I had the pleasure of attending a preview screening thanks to Forbidden Planet, and it was none stop fun and silliness through a really wholesome and heartwarming journey.
Everyone, and I mean everyone nails their roles, fantastic jobs to all actors involved. Plenty of easter eggs and nods to the game, the best thing about this film was no character or sequence over stayed their welcome. Everyone and every area got just enough screentime of either drama, comedy or story before moving things along. It moves at a great pace to keep things interesting whacky and humorous.
I'm usually a harsh critic and very rare I would give a movie 10/10 but I just loved every minute of this. Fantastic job to all involved. I really hope this does well both critically and commercially. A great movie for teens and adults alike, geeks with their friends getting their nerd on, date night, anyone can enjoy this.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Don't take it too seriously and you can have a lot of fun with it
I went into this film expecting something very specific and they delivered on it. They definitely achieved everything they set out to do. Not every movie has to be a cinematic masterpiece of genius writing, all star acting and a beautifully shot production.
Cocaine Bear fully delivered on being a light hearted, whacky, silly B Horror Comedy. Good mix of laughs, gore, nonsense, heart, silliness and memorable moments from a wide range of characters.
I mostly went to see this film as I knew it was Ray Liottas last movie before he passed away. He delivered a great performance in this. The film, in short, will be enjoyed if you lower your expectations and just switch off for two hours. You are going to watch something called Cocaine Bear, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Freaky (2020)
Took me by surprise, and was actually a lot of fun
Going into this I knew nothing about it, I initially thought it was gonna be Kathryn Newton was hunting Vince Vaughan because she was obsessed with him but it turns out to be a massive spoof Freaky Friday and reference plenty of other horror franchises (Halloween, Scream, The Shining to name a few)
The film is fun of light hearted silky humour, a lot of jokes for a younger audience I think. Don't expect too much from the plot, just have fun with it. There's quite a few gory scenes that are satisfying for someone who wants a slasher film.
I quite liked both main characters portrayals. Hats off to the actors, they brought a lot to their roles (usually horror or slasher movies have awful acting, but not the case in Freaky)
I missed the chance to see this in the cinema when it came out, glad I gave it a chance. Defo worth one watch.
Andor (2022)
An extremely slow burner but builds and has a worthwhile payoff
I know it's to build nuance, but this did not need 12 episodes. The first 4 are an absolute snoozefest, too many slow boring scenes, too many characters introduced that honestly after a whole season I can't remember over half of the characters names or what their purpose is, particularly all the inhabitants of Ferrix, the planet Cassian lived on with his adoptive mother.
However, once it gets going it doesn't stop.
The second quarter of the season is a heist section that is exciting and thrilling to watch.
The third quarter is a prison section that is some of the most intense, nerve racking tv I've watched. The final quarter is a hunt section which did quite a good job on capitalising on all the tension built up in previous episodes.
Some plus points
The acting is very impressive in this.
Particularly from Diego Luno himself, Marva Andor Mon, Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) Luthen (Stellan Skarsgard) and Andy Serkis charcater Kilo Roy I think that's how it's spelt.
The soundtrack and locations are produced very well and really enrapture the surroundings and atmosphere in each scene
The writing. They do a really good job at tying things in from previous episodes, albeit a little tricky to remember who everyone is and what they are doing, you get the gist of it and its satisfying enough when it comes full circle
My criticisms:
Unfortunately they commit the Walking Dead sin of charcaters, charcaters, charcaters in quite a bit of filler. Again, I know this is world building, I know it can't be all action, but most fans I know for a fact don't know the names or purposes of half the people on this show. There's a lot going on, and sometimes it's a lot of nothing which brings me onto my last point: Cyril Karn - this character really cost me ranking this show higher. He is in every episode, serves little to no purpose, overstays his welcome, and is an unlikeable total and complete creep and simp. His scenes are excruciating to watch, thrown in the imperial supervisor Dedras scenes to give this awkward "romantic" undertone to it is just so cringey.
Side note, this show will make you hate the empire. I didn't quite get why they made EVERY single Imperial officer a sadist, bully, nazi fascist. Seemed unbelievable that this many people would want to be like this and work for the empire. I would have preferred to see a lot more Imperials wiped out in the final episode, hoping they up the kill count for season 2.
Tekken: Bloodline (2022)
Liked it, but really should've been so much more. Potential was there just executed well.
Credit where credit is due, thus entry into the tekken franchise is the best of any live action or animated film/TV Series we've gotten so far.
They get a decent amount right
But what they get wrong they repeat the same mistakes so much it dilutes the show down the more it goes on.
So firstly, what they got right
1. Character Design - everybody looks how they should look, there's no having to guess who anyone is due to a drastic change in appearance, most appearing in their latest Tekken 7 costumes and hairstyles
2. Animation Style: this I was very impressed by. They really put an effort into charcaters movement, stances and evern how they perform certain attacks. All done in great respect of the games.
3. Series and episode length: each episode lasts 22 to 28 mins long, and 6 episodes in total. While some people would think this is not enough content or too short, I'm actually in favour of it because it keeps the pace going (as fights and fighting games should) and keeps the story moving along. (Now, granted one of my points below may seem like it contradicts this one, but I will elaborate and hopefully it'll help people decide if they want to watch this)
What they got wrong
1. The Jin Show.....Again
Tekken has been going for nearly 30 years and has amassed over 60 unique characters, yet they just couldn't help themselves but make this all about Jin again, just like the movie, and just the games from 3 up to 6.
They showed so many great charcaters in the show but most you don't even get to see fight, we are just told who wins and loses to focus back on Jin
2. Underuse and mistreatment of established characters: while it didn't seem enough to have them focus so much ok Jin, they nonchantly throw away characters saying "oh they're dead" or giving them one screenshot before deleting them from the movie all together. They also make Jin half brooding, deep, alpha male who won't share anything with anyone, back to bumbling silly boy who has no clue what's going on. This is definitely an anime sin, not solely a Tekken thing.
3. And lastly, this was my biggest problem with the show overall - rinse, and repeat and repeat and repeat
What we wanted to see, was these characters fight each other, show off some moves, grapples, stances, maybe a little dialogue exchange and sass, but what we get, and this happens a frustrating amount of times is: Jin gets knocked ok his ass and then we have to have a 60 second flashback of something Jun or Heihachi told him in a previous episode. It happens every single episode multiple times, some episodes even showing the same clip or flashback more than once.
It goes from being comical, to annoying, to just tiresome to watch. It completely kills any momentum created in the fight and doesn't learn from either the movie or its own previous mistakes and that is - we do not need to be constantly reminded of something that was said in a previous epsidoe. Its just time wasting and insulting to the viewer when we could have had more content on other characters tossed to the side.
Overall: worth a watch for any tekken fan. They leave it a good spot open for more. If you have the patience for the statement full dialogue probably due to the translation and the back to back flashback montages of the same 3 training lessons, then you may enjoy this.
I liked it, but the potential was wasted. Could have been so so much better.
Man Down (2013)
Good first season, goes downhill from there
I really like Greg Davies stand up comedy and his character in the inbetweeners, so thought I'd give this a go. While I did get the premise of the show, that the main character Dan is an overgrown man child who hasn't gotten his life together I was hoping he would be written to be more funny than annoying.
Unfortunately, he's just a petulant, spoilt, immature prat that is horrible to his family and friends at every single chance. I know it's a comedy but when the protagonist is so unlikeable and stress inducing to watch it was hard to like this show. Season 1 was pretty funny and to be honest all of Rik Mayalls scenes were golden, sadly Rik passed away after the first series so the remaining seasons were missing a bit of flair.
There a quite a few laugh out loud and endearing moments throughout, but instead of witty comedy Greg just kept adding over the top childish, whacky and zany scenes that overstay their welcome, such as Dan getting attacked by an animal in every episode and injuring his nose.
I will say, as far as British sitcoms go, it's definitely worth a watch but overall a very mediocre output and extremely unlikeable characters across the board.
Dan is an insufferable embarrassment
Jo is so clumsy out of touch with reality you'd wonder how she manages to feed or dress herself
Brian is a control freak and stress head.
The 3 main charcaters would never be friends in real life and don't seem to have much redeeming qualities. A strong first season, but gets tiresome and over the top ridiculous very quickly. Overall 5/10 watch, wouldn't re-visit.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Underrated gem
Separate your expectations
This is a Halloween film, not a Michael Myers one. This film has all the hallmarks of a great 1980s horror.
It's got whacky and goofy scenes, a killer soundtrack, some fun and zany kills, some sci fi elements, a little bit of sex appeal, a well written story, and a tense ending.
I enjoy this film more each time I watch it. Sure, it's not perfect and yes there are much better halloween and horror/sci fi movies but this is really easy and fun to watch.
The Silver Shamrock theme is addictive, the jack o lantern, witch and skeleton masks look really cool. Well worth a watch if you can just get past the fact that Michael Myers isn't in it.
Russian Doll (2019)
Season 2 needs to be deleted from existence
This was a one and done story
Everything was wrapped up nicely at the end of season 1
They then waited 3 years to release a second season so all of the hype and love died for the show. Season 2 honestly took me weeks to get through because it was so so boring anf confusing that I would end up pausing it and scrolling on my phone for hours. Season 2 absolutely did not need Alan but the painfully try to show horn him in.
Season 1 had humour and heart. A slow burner but entertaining enough to keep coming back to it. I'll never understand why they decided to make another season and I hear there's a third on the way, oh dear, flogging a dead horse at this stage. My ionest opinion watch season 1 as its a nice story and short enough series to binge, then remove it from your "My List" tab.
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
Disney misses the demographic yet again
I could only trust Disney to make a sequel to a film that came out 30 years ago and still make it for 5 year Olds. Everything was so childish, the acting, the screaming, the fake running away. Alright if you're watching this with a toddler but as an adult this didn't tick any boxes for me.
It was a very ok 5 out of 10 film for me but that's solely because I could see Bette, Kathy and Sarah Jessica Parker had a really fun time doing it. I loved the witch sisters scenes.
The other scenes however with the new batch of teenagers, the mayor, the magic shop owner all felt so bland and kiddy.
I'm glad that they made a sequel because at least we got to see more of the Sistas but as a film it just didn't hold my attention, didn't find it funny or interesting or charming like the original.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021)
I liked it, but not without its issues
Ok, so firstly credit were credit is due the animation on this 10/10, everything looks so slick and smooth, really impressed with the visuals all round from the character designs ( they didnt change their faces too much which RE historically does a lot, especially with the Redfield family) movement, weapons, locations, bio weapons etc.
Next thing I want to compliment them on is the voice acting. As it's the same voice actors from the remake of 2 the familiarity made me take to it all the quicker. Last thing i want to give them kudos to is nods and easter eggs to previous games (picture of Ashley, Tricell logo, tyrant/uroboros style heart) loved all that.
Now, a couple of things that I wasn't overly impressed by.
1. Run time. At 22-26 mins an episode, and just 4 episodes this really could've been a movie like Damnation, Vendetta or Degeneration. However, the short runtime did allow them to tell their story from start to finish at whatever pace they were going for, so at least it doesn't feel rushed. Just short
2. Side lining and demoting Claire:
This is something I have a massive gripe with. They repeatedly treat Claire like she's incompetent when she should be on the same level as Leon. They only actually share two scenes together, the first is in a hallway where they give each other some sass for old time sake, but then they ruin it by having Leon be all brooding and about the mission so he says something kinda dickish to Claire, she gives it right back to him, then he doesn't answer her.
In their next scene together, Claire having just escaped near death is now calling out for Leon's hand cos she couldn't possibly go any further without him, what follows is her getting incapacitated and knocked out (just like on the live action movies) which leaves Leon to take centre stage and save the day himself once again. Which brings me to my 3rd and last problem with this mini series.
3. Stop making Leon superhuman:
I love Leon, but he's just a guy, just a governor agent, but they give him so much screen time, so much of the combat goes to him. He miracously survives impossible scenarios all while remaining too cool for school, but half the time they don't show you how. One cool such instance where they did was when he electrocuted some rats.
Another silly moment is where he's dangling about 100 stories from an electric wire with no sign of being able to get down, next scene he's fine and walking along a bridge. I really do like Leon but they're making him "too lucky"
Overall I'd give it a 6/7 out of 10
Some good points
Some average points
One or two poor points
Worth a watch for Resident Evil fans
The animation style is fantastic.
Halloween Ends (2022)
Anticlimactic unfortunately. Last 20 mins is all you need
So, here we are again, the closing out of another Halloween timeline for what is now the 4th and seemed to be final time.
Before getting into the actual film I will say that the final act of this film did give fans a somewhat satisfying end to the Laurie Vs Michael saga.
Huge problem though, this is film is not about Michael or Laurie. The writers and the director actually went with "hey, do you know what would be a great finale to a franchise spanning 40 plus years with now 13 films to its name?
What?
Making the entire film about a brand new character that no one's invested in or will care about. Yep, and that's what we got. I feel like this trilogy had the sequel star wars trilogy output, in that they didn't actually have the trilogy mapped out.
This film is nothing like the trailer at all. Michael is barely in it and when he is he's barely doing anything.
Instead, 90% of this movie is about Corey. Who? That's right no one knows or cares
So, Corey is this young guy who gets really unlucky, people mistreat him and turn on him, so he slowly turns into this monster they all think he is but with increasingly cringey dialogue and acting. Shoe horned in is a Joker Harley Quinn style romance cos they're both "so messed up"
I will give them credit for the original storyline but how anyone allowed this to be the finished product, an "end" to a franchise.
That was my long honest review.
My short review is: the last 20 mins are good and all anyone wanted to see.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
Jurassic World: Inconsistent Kingdom
I really wanted to like this but the writing is so frustrating and all the protagonists are annoying. The film is too inconsistent when it comes to dinosaurs, they'll introduce species as the ultimate predator, being able to smell you from miles away and locking onto your position using pheromones or some other crap, but when it comes to chasing the protagonists they all magically slow down and miss. They can't keep up with an 8 year old girl or some tech geek that can't run, climb or do anything without having an episode.
All the heroes of this movie are the most annoying, useless bunch of charcaters I've endured in one of these Jurassic movies. First off, Maisie the little clone girl, is not needed in this movie. She serves absolutely no purpose other than someone else for Chris Pratt to save. They also allow dozens of dinosaurs out into the world because she pressed a button and cared for them, completely ignoring the amount of deaths they would cause.
Next up, we have Franklin (the tech guy) he exhibits all the clichés of the nerd who doesn't want to be there, has to be saved in every scene, complains and whines about everything, then clicks some buttons and is a saviour, I could deal with the clichés if Justice Smiths performance wasn't so unlikeable. His character is frustrating to listen to.
Then we move to Claire, who pushes through every scene with a smug pretentious look on her face.
The writing is just so bad. They keep putting them in unescapable situations that they get out of due to luck or Chris Pratt being cool. Very poor effort. I thought the first Jurassic World was only ok, this was a very lame follow up.
Nope (2022)
Waste of time and money but as its Jordan Peele, it will be hailed as a masterpiece
I cannot support this director anymore. Get Out was a fresh take on a horror movie but actually paid off. Us was overhyped and marketed as something entirely different than what we got and was so boring. Then there's Nope. A complete waste of time. Rife with unlikeable characters, it drags along at a snails pace and everytime it seems like its about to get interesting it falls flat again. They try to do comedy but it fails every time. As for scares, the scariest part of this movie was a prank played on the main character.
There's a subplot involving a monkey and Glen from the Walking Dead that goes absolutely nowhere. Just serves as more filler. It pains me that I paid full price for this movie for both me and my brother. Some people left the cinema during it they thought it was that bad. We stuck it out until the end hoping for some sort of redemption but nothing happens.
Resident Evil (2022)
Once again, Resident Evil fans get the middle finger.
I'm embarrassed and annoyed that with over 25 years of source material and nearly 20 games to work from they got absolutely nothing right. There was me thinking it couldn't get worse than Paul Andersons Final Chapter but somehow they managed to make something so infuriating and unwatchable.
Nothing about this is resident evil, the plot, the location the characters, the zombies themselves. Honestly, going into it I knew it would be terrible because it's not what ANY fan of Resident Evil would want. Hopefully it'll be cancelled immediately and someone else competent can maybe just maybe give us a decent live action Resident Evil. What puzzles me is the animated ones are fantastic.
Firestarter (2022)
Decent film. Did not expect the ending
An original take on a movie of this type.
Loved the soundtrack by John Carpenter which remixed the Halloween theme. Did not expect the main characters parents to have powers too and the ending took me by surprise. Though the last quarter of the film felt rushed. Her powers were cool to watch on screen, however some of the deaths came across more funny that shocking. Overall, a decent film, not too long and something different from Zac Efron.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
All this for a girl you met yesterday
Have never felt so indifferent towards a Marvel movie, essentially this film is about two things.
1. The hypocrisy of Stephen Strange
And 2. The further punishment to Wanda Maximoff
He bounces around universe to universe allowing everyone to die for some angsty teen who doesn't care or can't control her powers (cos that character hasn't been overdone a ridiculous amount of times), even allows all the sorcerers of kamar-taj to die and for what. Just for some random girl he met yesterday as Wanda puts it. It makes no sense. She's wants one person so she can finally be happy having had everyone in her life taken from her, but Strange is OK with countless dying to protect this girl called America Chavez.
And instead of trying to save Wanda he allows her to kill herself even though she's lost everything and been punished enough, so he can smile around town.
I loved the movie up until I hated it. They wanted us to hate Wanda but how can you hate her after years and years of building her charcater up. I wanted her to win and get what she wanted (which wasn't even that much to ask for), but no, she gets punished further and tossed aside like we're supposed to beleive shes a tragic villain. She was not a villain.
This movie just annoyed me at how much of a hypocrite Strange is and how non chalantly they just make Wanda the run of the mill villain that "gets defeated at the end.
Wanda stole the show. Everything about her was fantastic, so in true Disney fashion they had to ruin it with the "do the right thing" ending.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Trash - self indulgent and boring
Repeated mentions of other more successful franchises and LeBron James constantly just comes across as a narcissistic, self promoting waste of time. About a half an hour passes before we actually meet any if the Looney Tunes. I just could not get into this at all. Not appealing to fans of the original, kids, or looney tunes or basketball fans. I don't know who this movie is for, but either way it sucks.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
So slow and boring, too long, weakest film in the whole franchise
I was so disappointed with this. After the long wait from them wrongfully firing Johnny Depp and replacing with Mads Mikkelsen the final product was a mess but nothing to do with Grindlewalds character. Sadly, it was everything else that let the move down. Writing, script, mediocre action scenes, too many nothing characters to focus on, sub plots to develop to nothing, and some plot points near the end that did not make any sense at all
It drags along at a slugs pace, I sat there sighing waiting for scenes to be over as they were just so stretched out and bland. All the B characters are so underdeveloped, lacking any personality, this is especially true of Newts brother, Thessius, Lestrange, a new professor (cant remember her name because again she was so boring like the rest) and the countless henchmen Grindlewald had by his command that did nothing and just disappeared without any onscreen reason by the end.
The dark scenes that take place in a forest or cave are lit horrendously, could not see a thing that was going on.
Grindlewald seems to have a lot of support and popularity in the election that takes place yet somehow after his plans are foiled all these supporters including his henchmen, just disappear, you dont even see what happened to them or why they didn't put up a fight.
Creedance, whos Creedance? Ezra Millers character was bigged up so much and immediately side-lined, he spends the entire movie moping and dying after a failed attempt to stop Dumbledore, its revealed that hes Dumbledores nephew but absolutely nothing is done about this or after it.
For a movie called Secrets of Dumbledore, there's not that many secrets revealed about him. There's like 2, and they are both pushed under the rug immediately
Only credit where credit is due is that I quite liked Jude Laws acting and portrayal of younger Dumbledore but sadly this was nowhere near enough to save the film.
A long dragged out waste of time in my opinion. Very poor effort.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni save Star Wars
So, that Daisy Ridley mess of trilogy is behind us. Screw Kathleen Kenendy and Rian Johnson. They put Star Wars in the ground for fans. Thankfully Favreau and Filoni are on hand to put it back on track. It's all them, nothing to do with Disney. A very good series, each episode is fresh and interesting. They don't Gary Stu his character at all. He does fail at times but makes him more relatable great soundtrack, set design, costumes and make up, cinematography. Fantastic series.
Morbius (2022)
Nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.
Let's be honest, people just want to be popular and hating on Jared Leto, no matter what the man does, gives people those likes and reacts. In reality, he's quite a talented and diverse actor but the script for the movies is what let's him down. Side note, Joker should never have been in Suicide Squad, he is not part of it. Morbius is nice easy to watch short Marvel film. Nothing spectacular, but also nothing as boring and pretentious as Eternals. The movie has an easy to follow story, some light bits of comedy, a love interest, and some fight scenes like any other Marvel movie. You don't need to invest too much into this to enjoy it. My only criticism is during the flying scenes the effects are a bit jarring to watch. Other than that I liked Leto and Matt Smiths performance in this movie. A nice and simple 6.5/7 out of 10 movie.
Never Say Never Again (1983)
The end result of a bitter lawsuit
The movie is just a petty attempt at a cash grab and being arrogant enough to think that people would want more. Kevin McClory and Ian Fleming pitched a movie idea that was turned down. Fleming them used some elements of that to create Thunderball and credited McClory as a producer, however this wasn't enough for him, he wanted more, and despite Ian Flemings sudden death due to massive heart attack in 1964 (the year Thunderball came out) McClory still sued him, a legal battle which took years to resolve. This is not and never will be part of Bond. Its a poor parody remake of Thunderball with an ancient Sean connery well out of his prime.
The Mask (1994)
Golden Carey Years
Comedy gold, a style and finesse only Jim Carey could bring to the character. Really fun film, had a lot of heart and laughs. Shot well, acted well and nice story. My second favourite Jim Carey movie of all time, just behind Dumb And Dumber. Cameron Diaz is also fantastic in this, one of her earliest roles.
