A Haunting in Venice (2023)
"Based on" is in the most loosest terms
The only thing this movie has in common with the original book is Halloween and some character names.
They totally changed the personality of Ariadne Oliver. She went from a weirdo with an apple obsession to being totally comfortable with deceiving someone she considered an acquaintance.
The whole ghost thing was weird as that is just not in the style of Agatha Christie. Poirot is all about facts. Having things be implied is one thing, but to have him actually see things is ridiculous.
I actually enjoyed the first two as they were rather faithful to the books. But this one was so far off. And I love Halloween.
Earth vs the Spider (1958)
It's a spider movie.
I will always give a spider movie a chance no matter how low the rating it has.. Considering this came out in 1958,, it is pretty well done.. I''m not well versed in movies from this time period,, so I don''t know if this style is common,, but they used forced perspective really,, really,, well.. The acting is,, of course,, sub-par.. As one would expect from a movie made in 1958.. Please excuse the annoying punctuation and repetitiveness,, I am just trying to hit the max character count ever since they raised it to six-hundred for some nonsensical reason.. Six-hundred characters is an unreasonable goal.
American Horror Story: The Future Perfect (2021)
As time goes forward, this show goes down
Every season gets worse and worse. I didn't love the first half of this season but it was better than Roanoke and Cult. The second half was utter garbage. I've yet to care for things about aliens and this is just another to add to the garbage pile. It seems like they're running out of ideas and maybe Apocalypse should've been the sign to put the computer down and move onto other projects.
I wish we could rate seasons as a whole on here instead of episode by episode or whole show. I do not look forward to future seasons but will continue to watch in the hopes of another Hotel or 1984. Those were the best.
Leprechaun: Origins (2014)
What in the WWE
For some reason this movie was included in my Leprechaun box set even though it's not related. This is the only reason I'm watching it. The story itself isn't bad. Village uses tourists to keep themselves safe from a monster. But everything actually done with this movie is terrible. The "mole-like" creature isn't anything like what established leprechaun's look like. The acting is terrible. The fact the WWE wanted this to launch a career is hilarious. Unless I see a picture of Dylan Postl in makeup, there's no way I'm believing that it's him in the movie. The creature is way taller than Dylan. And if the trivia is to be believed both the director and Dylan have their heads so far up their butt's to think this is better than any of the originals.
The Midnight Club (2022)
Where was Mike Flanagan?
Typically I read the source material before watching his adaptations but this time I forgot to, so that may affect my position.
First episode started strong but wow did it not go anywhere from there. We never got answers on who the 2 ghosts were and why only the 2 could see them. The cult business almost felt rushed. There were next to no scares. I can live with the monologuing in this because that was the basis of it but the stories were silly and felt like they took away from the secondary story too much. The final episode seems to imply a second season so maybe they can read some of the criticisms and improve it. I want to end my review saying I've loved every Flanagan production I've seen except Midnight Mass and this. So I am a Flanagan fan but this doesn't feel like him at all.
Dark Web: The Mystery Box (2020)
Skip this one.
Everyone attached to this movie should be ashamed of themselves. Poorly done make up "tutorials" and some guy waving his hand in circles like he's in Karate Kid. It's not illegal to be on the dark web it's illegal to use the services that the dark web provides. Who do we report these people to for telling a false narrative in the plot description? I was expecting low quality Unfriended: Dark Web but we got less than nothing.
Encino Man (1992)
Not a terrible movie
But who tf likes Pauly Shore? Maybe it's because I was born in the 90s and didn't experience his popularity growing up but he is very annoying in this movie.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window: Episode 2 (2022)
The Elephant in the Room
This was a very good episode but why is no one mentioning the dumbest thing I've ever heard of?!
No prison is going to allow a child into a non-visitor area. No parent in their right mind would ever think "let's bring a vulnerable person into a very unsafe environment." I got quite stuck on that's how the child died. Absolutely ridiculous.
Black as Night (2021)
Welcome To Blumhouse Collection
Out of all 8 of the Welcome To Blumhouse Collection this was the best one. The vampires were actually creepy looking for once. The story kept my attention the whole time. There was action right from the beginning.
The Walking Dead: On the Inside (2021)
Really good episode.
Scariest episode by far. Only other one that creeped me out this much was season 2 ep 1 where all the walkers swarmed the highway.
Midnight Mass (2021)
I'm disappointed
This was so hyped up and I really wanted to like it. I'm really not a fan of vampire themed things so that was a disappointment in itself. It was so very slow with way too much monologuing. And the religious aspect was way too much as well. I know this is the extreme of religion but it's put me even more off of it than I already was.
Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father (2017)
I'm sad it's over
But it was a good time while it lasted. Michael is hilarious. It's nice to see them bonding over the silliest of things. Definitely something I'm going to rewatch. The Best Of episode was really sweet.
In the Heights (2021)
Long awaited and I'm impressed
I loved Anthony Ramos and I hope this movie can launch his career.
Criminal Minds: Entropy (2016)
Aubrey Plaza
Can't stand Aubrey Plaza. Very disappointed her character comes back in a season or so. She rarely speaks above a monotone. She's always stone faced. What is there to like? She acts the same in everything.
Mulan (2020)
Better than I thought it would be
I really would've liked an update of the animated version but, I'm not entirely disappointed. I find the remakes Disney has been doing are very hit or miss. I loved Beauty and the Beast but hated Lion King. I probably won't go out of my way to rewatch this but I wouldn't say no if someone suggested it. The worst parts are the very obvious edited acrobatic stunts.
Grey's Anatomy: Good Mourning (2009)
Wrong person
A 5% survival rate is so slim she should have died. That should've been her moment right there to stop poisoning the show. I get that they know her and that's why they ignored her DNR but she shouldn't've made it that far in the first place. George's death was so shocking I just had to sit for a minute to really take it in. I'm mad about his reasons for leaving the show, but I understand why he did it.
Audrie & Daisy (2016)
We need more documentaries like this
I've loosely followed some of the very public rape cases that have happened in the US, but you don't usually get an in depth look at the women who are the survivors. It also showed how one sheriff has a bad mindset when it comes to rapes. Placing the blame on both men and women, when all it takes is for a man to employ human decency and not rape and incapacitated woman. The one thing that truly angered me about this doc was the last shot. "For Audrie" If you read some of the writings it's, for lack of a better word, disgusting. "I didn't know you well..." "I'll miss your smile." One person even had the audacity to write "Hope you get better soon!" I can't express just how angry that made me to see.
The Lion King (2019)
Disappointing
Let's start with who in their right mind let Seth Rogen's laugh into the movie. Just terrible. The cgi is just too realistic and distracting. There was no emotion conveyed from body language like they claimed to do in lieu of facial expressions. The voice work definitely could've been better, it really does come across as flat and bored. Songs weren't bad but they had all the ground work laid out they just had to get the singing right, which I think they did. I'm not a fan of Beyoncé and have never heard Donald Glover sing so I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard. Taking the humour away from the hyenas wasn't a good idea either.
Dirty Money: Payday (2018)
F U Scott Tucker
It was great to see Scott Tucker crying about his "hardships", as if he didn't cause much higher strife for so many working day Americans. I agree seeing more of the victims would've been better but at the same time you get to see just how arrogant him, his attorney, and his wife are. When the attorney said that with the financial implications of the federal lawsuit would mean a life sentence for them, all I thought was, "great! You deserve to suffer every second for every person you screwed over! I'm so glad they were convicted. I just wish it was a longer sentence.
Double Shot at Love with DJ Pauly D & Vinny (2019)
I liked it.
Unfortunately my recording of the first episode was cut short so I only saw introductions of the second group and didn't get to see how they acted but the first episode is clear evidence that first impressions are usually wrong. Nikki was my favourite right off the bat but then whoa.. There was a fair amount of drama that kept it interesting. I would've liked to have seen more challenges or interaction between everyone. It seemed like they spent a lot of time in their rooms. Would recommend if you like to look at a car crash.
Double Shot at Love with DJ Pauly D & Vinny: The Final Shot (2019)
Finally
Finally!! Pauly has finally said no to the crazy! I've been waiting for this moment since her first crazy comment.
Riverdale (2017)
No more.
I really wanted to love this show and went into it with an open mind but every episode drags it down further. First season was quite interesting start to finish, then Hiram came to town and every little thing revolved around him. The Black Hood storyline dragged out the whole second season, and it didn't even have a very satisfactory conclusion. It then led right into a confusing and hard to follow third season. The Farm was one of the worst storylines I've ever sat through. The split between Betty and Jughead dealing with them and G&G, and Archie and Veronica dealing with Hiram and his links to G&G and everything was annoying because this was a group that dealt with everything as a team, and I didn't like that each twosome had no idea what was going on with the other twosome. I love that FP became sheriff but that's a hard sell since he's probably still on parole/probation from the first season. I wish they would've addressed Luke Perry's death this season so I could completely cut ties with it but I will watch that episode when it comes. And to end it off, the cliff hanger they had didn't interest me at all. Burn your clothes all you want while covered in blood! I won't be back because it can only get more ridiculous from here until Hiram is dead.
The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015)
Don't watch it!
Probably doesn't have spoilers but I don't know what counts as one. This is the absolute worst movie I have ever seen. I don't throw that around lightly because I like to see the better side of bad movies. Sadly the movie was poor from start to finish. The opening scene gave very little information and any revisiting of the topic later on gave even less information. The oldest boy was nearly impossible to understand but the rest of the cast was not much better. The amount of screen time for The Witch was seriously laughable. The baby got more screen time. The scariest part was sadly the bunny. The ending was just plain confusing and made no improvement to the already boring plot. I will make sure everyone I know knows how awful this movie was. I don't want anymore people misled by a great looking trailer to waste their hard earned money on such boring trash.
