Tiny Beautiful Things (2023)
Heartfelt & Funny
I've read Cheryl Strayed's books and connected with the authenticity and whole-heartedness in her writing, and I wasn't surprised that similar themes came up in this TV miniseries. Real, raw and hits you in the heart and gut. I think if you're middle-aged and looking back on your life, your regrets, your relationships and connections this show will resonate with you in some way. It reflects the complexities of life and the multidemontial nature of our life choices.
I binged - watched this show in less than a week and I am hoping for another season. There are so many shows out there that are superficial, violent or just plain bad and this is none of those things.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
This is an odd film for sure
There are 3 parts to this film- the first part is the longest and I am unsure how many times I said out loud, "WTF", and wished the film were over. However, in the 2nd part the chaos of the 1st part come together and it builds to a crescendo with a very heartfelt, deep and meaningful message about life. I did not enjoy the humor personally and felt it was elementary. I understand both sides on the reviews, but for this one I'm in the middle. There are parts that will make you think, other parts will make you shake your head wondering what the heck just happened. I definitely didn't feel that it was one of the top movies I've seen, but I did enjoy the 2nd part, the 3rd part was compromised of less than 10 minutes.
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
I don't get it
Apparently I'm missing something. The scenery was beautiful, the acting was done very well, but...the plot- if one can actually admit to one, was diluted and obscure. I'm assuming this movie was a metaphor for the civil war in the backdrop. I want my time and money back - this was painful to sit through, and dark.
I was really looking forward to seeing this movie based on the reviews and ratings. I think perhaps it takes a certain type to understand this type of humor and appreciate the symbolic aspects of the film.
I hope you have better luck than I did and enjoy it.
Go to a matinee or wait for it to come out online.
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
HUGE Disappointment - Spoilers ahead
They killed him off more quickly than
they brought him back. This last episode made the entire reboot of this show incredibly disappointing. Up until this episode I was so impressed and satisfied that they brought Dexter back. I'm assuming there will be a spin off with his son, but I doubt I will be watching that. RIP Dexter.
