The Fourth Kind (2009)
Fake Documentary Drivel
This film is a classic example of a film that should never have made it to the cinema. The writing, acting and direction are borderline amateur (I work in the independent film industry so I know what I'm talking about), the storytelling is poorly paced and badly thought out, and the delivery of key scenes is, at times, quite inept.
The 'illusion' that this is based on true events was also poorly executed and only the most stupid of viewers wouldn't realise that the so-called 'actual' footage, is totally fake and that the interviews with 'real life' people are in fact scripted dialogues delivered by actors. How do I know this? Because 'real life' people don't pause for dramatic effect when they are asked a question... that's why. If you don't believe me, watch it for yourself.
The 'actual footage' used in the film is obviously fake too. In one scene, a person being interviewed levitates from their chair for just long enough to be noticed by the audience before the footage conveniently crackles away into static.... Oh please!
Jack Says (2008)
Weird Characterisation
I found the characterisation in this film rather odd. Too many times, the central characters acted very strangely and it felt like the script had been written in stages by several different writers. The acting was poor in places too - you could tell the girls were cast for their looks, not their acting ability... which turned out to be a bit of a wasted opportunity because we never really got to see anything. Shame, cos it probably would have been worth the money if we did. The storyline's a bit weak too - and the ending was terrible contrived and oh-so-slightly unbelievable. Eric Cantona was good though. If only he had a bigger part... Still, despite all this, it was much better than Churchill: The Hollywood Years.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Not as good as people say it is....
I found this movie quite tiresome and boring. The acting was good in the most part but was overshadowed by a convoluted, confusing and overly long plot line that gave none of the actors the screen time they deserved. I remember thinking to myself 'when will this film end' at one point, and surely that's not a good sign. They should have made two movies: one featuring the Joker and one featuring Two-Face. By the end of the showing my bum was sore and I just wanted to go home. It could have been really good but, sorry, it just wasn't that enjoyable. If they'd have taken more time with the script and ironed out the plot a little, it would have been a much better film. Surely when you have $100million to spend on a project, you'd at least think they'd get the basics right? Sadly, in this case, they have not.
