Barry: it takes a psycho (2023)
"Let's go"
Wow. It's always great when a shows final season is absolutely on point and to present day Barry Season 4 has been absolute fire!
What makes this episode so special is the focus on everyone else but Barry. Sally's narcissism has came out even more this season with her constant need for approval, Noho Hank trying to walk the line of two different lives which by the way he stole this episode, Cusamano another character so self absorbed that he makes a tragic mistake.
I think that's what I love about this season, anti heroes in the end destroy people around them and eventually themselves, the writing is just perfect. A happy ending is not realistic, we just need a satisfying one.
The Last of Us: Look for the Light (2023)
"We don't trade lives"
This was a satisfying end to a brilliant entry into the television world. The cinematic experience
was the same feeling I had when I watched a friend play the video game in 2013. I remember saying "I care more about the storyline then playing the game."
Sensational opening, made the conclusion even heavier. Joel's enduring drive to find anything to keep going really shows the measures he'll take to ensure that. It's really such a mental conflict
But he made a human decision, "we don't trade lives," for better or worse. Selfish? Maybe, right?, maybe. I mean, what are the rules now anyway?
Great season, the formula of the show has changed, major pivot to some unknown built on a lie. You know this will end up all coming back around, it always does.
Stranger Things: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)
Good finale but the Plot Armor has always been a fear
Overall, this season in my opinion is the best Stranger Things season with the "Massacre at Hawkins Lab" being the greatest episode of the series.
The Duffer Brothers created an awesome villain in Vecna and kudos to Jamie Campbell Bower as he was the best actor in this whole season, bravo!
My only critique which sadly holds major weight for me is the inability to kill off major characters. I think with the love triangle with Nancy it would have been easy to kill her off so fans didn't have to root for or against likable characters in Jonathan or Steve.
Along with that keep Max dead!! The emotion in her dying was so heavy and to bring her back was just scared writing. There's one season left, you needed to rip out the heart of the viewer at some point. Nancy, Eddie and Max dying would have left us shattered, broken yet "Rains of Castamere" shocked which is a beautiful thing.
The finale was good don't get me wrong, the sound editing is out of this world, literally however we need more risks from Team Duffer and with how much was at stake I just don't agree with letting everyone live.
I have very high expectations for Season 5 and they will be challenged with the daunting task of ending on a satisfying note Netflix's greatest series to date.
The Batman (2022)
"Fear is a tool"
From the start, you can tell this is going to be a very different Batman story and thankfully it is. People forget about how dark a superhero Batman is, they also forget how brilliant a detective he is. Both these themes are evident in the entire movie and this was the film Batman long needed.
The story takes us to Year 2 of the "Gotham Project" and Batman is struggling to find his balance between Bruce and Bat. Bruce Wayne does not exist, he's a mere affluent, social figure whose only focus is "Vengeance." In a lot of ways, he's reckless in hiding his alter ego and is filled with uncontrollable range.
Pattinson owns his universe, he does very well as the Caped Crusader. It's still early and he has at least another 2 movies to go but you could see him sneak up that Power Ranking list quicker than some though.
This movie is a dark, detective novel made for screen and for you mystery buffs this is right up your ally. Don't let the 3 hour run time deter you from going, sure it could have been shorter but I wouldn't know what to cut and it was still a great movie. If you enjoyed Seven and Zodiac then you'll enjoy this.
This was the first of hopefully a very successful, unique and exciting new trilogy for the Bat Vigilante.
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
So Close...
Ughhhhh! They nailed it right until the last 20 minutes, I loved the idea of Angel coming up from Miami to look in the eyes of Dexter knowing who he really is, especially thinking he's been dead the past 10 years. This would have given well deserved justice for both Laguerta and Doakes. Then to have him extradited and the show concluding with him receiving the death penalty would have been so satisfying and what Dexter deserved, sorry everyone it is what he deserves.
Harrison killing Dexter happened so fast. Within 4 minutes he went from leaving with his dad to shooting and killing him. This lets Dexter off way too easily, spoils the build up to Angel coming to New York, and is just an overall let down.
This mini series was flawless and so unbelievably well done until the final quarter of the finale and it's just so disappointing. I was so excited, convinced it would finish strong and though the finale wasn't a complete dud it surely once again leaves a stain on the show. Sorry Dex.
Cobra Kai: The Rise (2021)
The Error of your ways.
Wow. What a season. This season was full of life lessons, high emotions and overwhelming tension/intensity. Well written and even though it can get super cheesy...I LOVE IT!
Seeing how the theme of "going your own way" and the mistakes of parents projecting their views on the kids as the "only way" is a life lesson for all of us. You need to find your own path and this season really hit home with that theme.
I'll end below with my major highlights of Season 4.
-Danny and Johnny finally understanding and accepting each other
-Miguel lost
-Eli's Redemption
-Tori's dilemma
-"The Hug"
-John Kreese making an expected growth turn and it costing him
-That last scene and song.
Season 5 you have a lot to live up to, let's get to work.
Yellowstone: Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops (2022)
Boring, Weak and a lack of creativity in every episode.
Let me first preface by saying that the first three seasons of this show were absolutely riveting and on point. The shows writing, acting, intensity and cinematography put it on par with any show on Television right now. Season 4 I expected to be the best season to date however right from the start it was a let down.
My issue immediately was how easily all the Dutton's survived that attack and recovered, John Dutton on a horse within months??? We needed a major death, Game of Thrones like balls where the writer takes the heart and rips it right out of you. Beth dying would have been unbelievable and the most realistic scenario considering how the explosions happened. It would have made the character so vulnerable and pulled them even closer together. This would have opened the door to see Rip become a mad man and we could have continued the story line with Josh Holloway as a perfect villain, which by the way what a wasted storyline...they could have carried that into Season 4 and built up such intensity.
Now to the lazy writing and frustrating character arcs:
Jaime: He has become so pathetic and weak. He is so much stronger and sharper than this. He's as smart as any of them, write him a better angle. Your wasting all he can be.
Kaycee: Once again, another waste. WHERE ARE YOU GOING WITH THIS TAYLOR?! Kaycee is arguably the 2nd lead on this show, he needs to be more involved.
Beth: Unlikable and over the top, almost too ridiculous. Stop with the Beth worship. We're tired of it.
Overall a terrible season and it makes me feel like Taylor Sheridan didn't care at all, so why should we?
True Detective: Now Am Found (2019)
Now he rest.
I was reminded of a pastime. The reason why I love this show so much. The suspenseful, disturbing noises, the razor sharp dialogue and most of all the characters. True Detective Season 3 was a slow burn from start to finish that made me use every creative part of my brain to piece together.
My biggest problem with Season 2 that Season 3 reinforced was the emphasis on the case. It reminded me of Season 1 when all the pain, all the mistakes, the mental exhaustion all came back to the case.
The ending was superb, it was realistic, well written and left me content. Cop shows are not about high speed chases, unnecessary action scenes and over the top violence. It's about true police work, piecing together a puzzle that solves a mystery.
True Detective Season 3 embodied everything I hoped for and more. I will wait for Nic Pizzolatto to once again go back to the drawing board however take your time Nic, let it come organically, because I'll wait 4 more years if it means another case that "unearths the personal and professional secrets of those involved, both within and outside the law."
Banshee: Requiem (2016)
"Maybe it's about choosing another road down here with the rest of us"
I guess if i had to put a word describing this show it would be "Intense" I swear every episode has the goose bumps bumping, and you on the edge of your seat. This show surprised me, maybe because i didn't know Cinamax did shows but this was extremely well done.
It's disappointing it didn't last longer but i respect the show for knowing their shelf life, and not to sacrifice story for ratings like The Walking Dead. The characters we're well chosen, and the story was well told. The characters they decided to keep/write off we're well played.
The change in finale was a clutch move because originally Hood was suppose to die however they felt he deserved to finally have a life of his own away from the chaos, prison, and the daily occurrence of his life. Him riding off how he came in could not have been told better, and i like the mystery of his name kept under wraps.
A pleasant surprise this show has been, and though the ride was short it was never more intense then when that crazy, nameless warrior came to Banshee, Pennsylvania.
Suits: Character and Fitness (2017)
The Wind and The Sun
How far this season has come truly speaks volumes for the writers of this show. After the mid season finale which was one of the finest episodes of the shows history the half season started and each episode was a fine wine from there slowly but surely becoming better and better.
Mike's journey this season has truly been exciting to watch and ever since he was convicted of being a fraud I feared the formula of the show was in serious jeopardy; fear not. What a perfect moment to bring back Jessica, and Harvey once again proves that he always has an ace in the hole.
Jessica was always the wisest, especially seeing how Harvey results to confrontation when he's desperate where Jessica provides the voice of reason and shows why she should always be the first name on the wall weather she is there or not.
The show left on some sad notes with Louis, and Donna however we all know Season 7 will bring some happiness to our favorite characters. The music playing while Harvey and Mike shook hands as Mike accepted the job offer from Harvey with his own stimulations was perfect Suits continues to prove it's longevity and we will all sit back and eagerly wait for the next puzzle that the P.S.L. Team will have to solve, although this time it's together, forever.
Narcos: Al Fin Cayó! (2016)
"When you lay eyes on him, the devil's a real let down"
Let me break it down for you. Pablo Came, Pablo Rose, Pablo Fell. I am not fully familiar with the true story so i will keep it to the show, but wow this was the best 2 season ride i might have ever watched on television. Where do i start?
The writing was superb, i mean razor sharp, and the acting, i mean doesn't Wagner Moura deserve an Emmy? Boyd Holdbrook and Pedro Pascal nailed it as well, Holdbrook's voice is perfect for narration, and i couldn't be more satisfied. Instead of dragging out Pablo's story out 4 season's with 5 filler episodes each they decided to make 20 amazing episodes that each one kept you hooked.
I tried to space it out in regards to watching it (like i always try with Netflix) but 3 weeks was the best i could do. What a great show and i didn't even see it coming, those shows are my favorite. But now i ask, what in the hell are they going to do for Season 3?
Besides the obvious of no Pablo i cannot see Murphy being brought back as it makes no sense, his passion was Escobar and i'm sure he is spent, not to mention it's based on a true story so they have to go by it some what.Javier Pena and the Cali Cartel just ain't enough for me i'm sorry, i will no doubt watch going forward because the show is phenomenal however i do have my doubts.
Then again,Who cares? keep the wave moving, i'll keep the faith on my end as well. Bravo to Netflix once again, they created the already created but never told.
"The problem is, Pablo is never more dangerous than when you almost have him" -Steve Murphy
Suits: P.S.L. (2016)
The Code Red
You can try and predict this show, and you may even nail it sometimes, but they will always sneak one by you. This episode was all about Jessica from the start, and when i picked up on it early with the flashbacks i really enjoyed the move by the writers even before i knew it was leading up to her departure from the firm.
So far Season 6 has been very different as expected, the writing is definitely not as strong as past seasons, but i still like the unknown of where they are going. Plus how could you follow up Season 5? That was the season we all were waiting for since Mike joined the firm; which brings me to my next point.
With Mike out of prison now the show's formula is gone, the secret, the anxiety of when he is going to get caught is no longer there so it makes me curious what is the show's next course of action
Jessica Leaving the firm is huge, never thought of her as human, she always came off cold, cynical, and never really cared for anyone else. This episode change that, and i would never deny her importance to this show like her or not, and this cannot be permanent, however she needs to be brought back at a climatic time.
So we will wait, draw up theories, make guesses, say we like this, we don't like that but in the end Suits always has an ace in the hole.
Game of Thrones: Mother's Mercy (2015)
Broken
It just isn't fair. After an episode of so much justice, so much satisfaction then this. "This is for the watch?" Are you kidding me? I'm not sure who the real traitor is. Jon Snow deserved so much better than this. To have two Starks, and yes Jon Snow was a stark die being known as traitors is as unjust as it gets no matter what dictionary you pull to find meaning. A part of me knew it was possible but who would have thought that it actually happen? I can't even discuss all the positives of this episode, and cliff hangers of all the characters including Arya, Jamie, Daenerys, Sansa, Theon, Cersei, without looking and saying wow Jon Snow is dead, let those words sink in; this was by far the biggest injustice to a character. Ned Stark was tough to swallow but I accepted it because it open the doors to a better story, Robb Stark deserved his death, never break an oath even if you are "The King of the North." I ranked this episode so high because even with his death you can't help but give respect to George R.R. Martin for once again reminding us that no one is safe when you play The Game of Thrones.
Sons of Anarchy: To Be, Act 2 (2011)
Undisputed Best Season Of Entire Show
Finally. Jax has taken the table. This was a superb season from start to finish, After watching the rest of the show i still agree this is the best season. After such a terrible Season 3 that really was tough to watch Sutter made up for it with this season. Starts off with the Sons being released from prison and back to real world with a new sheriff. After his presence being known we also slowly see Clay is at the start of the end when it comes to his hands. This leads to the cartel welcoming with the drug trade and the deal being made between Jax and Clay. As the season goes on more than bargained for happens with the cartel and the table remains at a split with Bobby questioning Clay's leadership. The season got heated once Juice was forced to work with the government and Piney began to threaten Clay about the letters that would compromise his leadership and have Jax hang him high. With the club being tested more than ever eventually Piney becomes a bigger threat and Clay makes the choice to kill him. This was huge! Along with that Tara(being the first person to find the letters) is also on Clay's radar and he makes the call to the cartel to take out Tara; he had no idea Jax would be there and thank god he was.Tara's hand is in awful shape questioning if she will ever operate again, very sad time and with all this Juice is being asked more and more including stealing a brick of coke that led to Miles finding out and Juice killing him. Then the last few episodes are wild, Opie finds his father dead and Unser tells him the truth. Opie fired up, storms to club house and shoots Clay and if Jax didn't shoot his hand he would have finished the job. Eventually Geamma(recently beaten by Clay) tells Jax EVERYTHING! This made the season, Jax finds out about the letters, Clay killing Piney and trying to kill Tara. He is furious, and knows he must take the table. He tells Clay the deal in a excellent scene of fury saying that only because of the Irish need for Clay he keeps him alive. Then in what many call a weak finale(no clue what your talking about) a great version of Rising Son is played as Jax puts together his new table, naming Chibbs Sgt. of Arms, and wanting Opie as Vice President which seemed unlikely sadly. Juice in the end was let go from government and the Rico case died and with Jax with still limited information except for the fact he tried to kill him self allowed him back at table. This put an end to a season that was full of wild rides. Best idea throwing a drug cartel in the mix with the story with the Sons hating the drug trade and finally letting Jax take the table. After all 7 seasons this will forever be far and away my favorite Sons season. Excellent job.
Sons of Anarchy: Papa's Goods (2014)
Superb ending to a show that did everything right
When i first heard of Sons of Anarchy i thought, "just a lame biker show that's for motorcycle junkies, not for me" I watched one episode and loved it since. This was a show that got rid of characters at the right time, knew when it was time to end and though sometimes a boring episode here or there was powered from the love the characters brought and superb writing. This finale was excellent, any true fan knows that their was no other way for Jax to go out but death, would it make you feel better if he met Mr. Mayhem? He deserved it, yes but Jax wasn't going out like that. Jax did it at peace, finishing all the necessary pieces with Borowoski, Marks, and setting Chibbs up to be the President. The blood on the high way with the crows was brilliant, Sutter knew how to make a boss ending that would leave you sad but satisfied. I've seen some amazing shows go out in the worst of ways but Sons of Anarchy's arguably last 3 episodes of series were the best 3 episodes of the show, period. Sad to say good bye, great finale, great ride. " I got this."
