Land (2021)
Just beautiful
This film is just beautiful. Ideally you will need to have experienced loss in order to identify with it , or maybe frustration with modern life - mobile phones / the constant need to be in touch / news / stuff! A reminder of what we really need to live - food/warmth/love.
A perspective on survival and what it means to be comfortable in your own skin and in your own company . The performances are stunning as is the scenery-filming locations - direction.
The only part is didn't agree with was burning books - sacrilege! But needs must I suppose
Highly recommend
Something different
No special effects just acting and storyline.
Outer Range (2022)
Brilliant supernatural thriller
Don't understand the bad reviews/ josh brolin is brilliant/ each episode keeps you engaged with a cliffhanger - albeit we did binge watch the first five episodes didn't want to turn it off. It keeps you guessing what's going on. It's dark; yet intriguing . Suggest you watch and decide for yourself if it's your type of show:
Spencer (2021)
Dark and harrowing
Nearly turned it off after half an hour ; it's not what you expect and the score is hard work. As the film progresses you can see it's purpose is to depict Diana's mood: Timothy spall is brilliant and a little scary; the scenes with harry and william are weak; but Kirsten has Diana's voice and mannerisms perfected. The analogy with Anne Boleyn makes the film worth watching.
Top Boy (2011)
The Wire in London
Why have I not heard of this before ? New to Netflix , it's brilliant , up there with the best - The wire, the sopranos , breaking bad. Storyline. Suspense ; character development . Just perfect.
Mr. Jones (2019)
An important film
History at its most stark and horrific
A brave Welsh man and journalist who reported on a shocking story of exploitation. Why do men do such things. Absolute power corrupts
Brilliant.
Big Sky (2020)
Some great twists and cliffhangers
Some of the reviews state it's cheesy on times and it is, but series 1 gets better and better. Great character development and twists. The character of Ronald is superb , good entertainment . Looking forward to series 2.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Outstanding
Having loved the sopranos such much we attended the cinema with apprehension. We were not disappointed. The casting is perfect ; Livia, Junior and of course the young Gandolfini stand out . Ray Liotta is Ray Liotta . The storyline and its links to the show work very well, and it keeps you on your toes with the usual sopranos shock events . The way the character of Tony slowly develops throughout the movie to the final climax is particularly good. He has the Soprano hunched walk perfect: we also loved the voice over at the beginning and end , and the theme song in closing , loved it : interesting plot twist which I won't reveal here . Hope Mr Chase writes another.
Bliss (2021)
Great movie if you're looking for something different
Similar to eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Designed to make you think . Love, addiction and mental illness with a sci-fi element thrown in. Great performances from Salma Hayek and Owen Wilson.
Perry Mason (2020)
Brilliant
A solid 8 if not a nine . Great writing and direction . Bring on series 2
Dark Waters (2019)
Must watch
Must see cinema based on a true story this is biographical filmmaking at its best . Great cast
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
Great movie
With this cast it can't fail . It's very Tarantino ' - without the bad language and less violent , b it great interwoven storytelling . The cast are all exceptional . The soundtrack is classic Motown . Can't believe I've never heard of it but it came highly recommended . I felt it needed to add a review as I can't understand the bad reviews on here
Gangs of London (2020)
Outstanding
Sean is not the best leading man gangster but he grows on you. Each other episode gets better and better . The violence makes Scorsese seem mild , but it is brilliantly done . Writing , direction, characters and music it has it all
Intolerable Cruelty (2003)
George clooney should do more comedy
This film is underrated in my opinion , brilliant writing by the Coen brothers and George Clooney and Catherine Zeta Jones are Great together , like Clark Gable and Vivienne Leigh . Very funny movie
The Report (2019)
Fact that needed to be told
Brilliant , essential storytelling and why accountability is crucial to regardless of the situation
Virgin River (2019)
Wonderful characters
Great story, about life and love, in a stunning setting. You grow to love the characters I so hope they make another series
The Sopranos (1999)
This show sets the bar
I do not understand the previous reviews that state there is no depth of character here, no other show before or since creates characters that you grow to love so much, and the fact that they are not afraid to kill off any character at any time adds to the ongoing development of the story. Admittedly the ending is not the best, however the ride is worth it. Have watched it through three times, always picking up little things previously missed. Love it will always be my favourite
Giri/Haji (2019)
Intelligent crime drama
Writing, depth of characters, direction, truly outstanding. Japanese cast are brilliant, alongside London's finest gangsters of Guy Ritchie proportions. Highly recommend, stick with the first few episodes and the story really develops and draws you in
