High Life (2018)
I loved it, although there are a lot a fluids
I found this movie engaging and bold. It took a lot of risks with the subject matter and the director managed to make a real gem of a sci fi film.
It's definitely better than average. Sitting for me somewhere between a 6 and a 7 but I'll go ahead and give it a 7. It stays with you long after you left the theater.
It also does the science really well and as you're watching it the feeling of isolation that you share with the characters on the screen is palpable. The director used the environment to create an unsettling tone, and I think the ship is practically its own character as well.
While it's perhaps not a perfect movie, some of the character choices are questionable and there are a lot of fluids being flung around, semen, blood, goo, whatever. I dunno.
It was fresh and memorable to say the least. Definitely worth a watch, especially if you like Robert Pattinson.
Heat (1995)
Baffling why people love this movie
This film gets a lot of love and I don't know why.
Al Pacino phones it in, it's bloated and so boring I fell asleep watching it.
The only bright points are the heist and Val Kilmer's performance. One star for each of those things.
It's not a good film.
Oh shoot, well I thought that was enough to suffice for a review, but it says I need 600 words, so I'll say also some of the character choices are confusing to say the least. Do yourself a favour and just go to youtube and watch the heist scene, it's the best part of the thing anyway. Once that's over you won't be missing anything at all trust me.
Bone Cold (2022)
A competent and engaging thriller
I really enjoyed this action and psychological horror film because it covers a lot of important themes, such as PTSD, what it means to serve in the military, and the sacrifices required. It doesn't spoon feed you the answers and it really makes you think.
Yes you come away with some questions, and not everyone is going to like that. But if you don't mind pondering a film and perhaps watching it more than once, I think you'll find it not only satisfying, but eye opening. It's incredibly creepy as well, and the score really sets the mood in every scene.
I've read in some other reviews there were some inconsistencies in the military uniforms and weapons etc. But if you haven't served in the military it doesn't affect the overall themes and plot of the film.
8/10 a solid film.
