Begin Again (2013)
Good story told poorly
First of all, I wasn't impressed at all with Keira Knightlys singing skills (unlike other reviewers) She sang in a pretty flat style, her range was pretty non existant -to be honest.
Story wise, we were led to believe that Keiras character was the main singing story, then At the end of the movie her song writing skill was shown to be her stand out quality, rather than her career taking off!
The story (in my opinion) could have been crafted better as the entertainment value suffered.
Keira Knightly is a good actor, but should leave the singing parts to stronger voices who can display ability.
Sweet Home Carolina (2017)
Movie with a solid start and a big heart
Sunday afternoon viewing, for me -gladly.
After reading most of the reviews, some (I find) over critical, people should watch with an open mind.
Most useful comments (to me) include the elder daughter being the most changed during the movie and the lead actress being a little wooden, needing to have shown more emotion throughout.
With my (mostly) uncritical eye, this offering delivered in most areas needed. If you are looking for an action movie with loads of stunts and cgi effects -then this story isn't for you. If you want a relatively straightforward story! Then this one is for you all..
Madame Web (2024)
Could've been written better -but entertained Me
Firstly, I'm sure that a lot of people will pick holes in this Marvel offering, however, you need to suspend your sense of disbelief, as the telling of the story involved Us being part of the premonition process -which involved a great deal of imaginative writing, which I think worked well, mostly.
The sequal (which I'm sure is intended to happen) will be better received -after all, Spiderman had to start somewhere, didn't he! Of course, parallels will be drawn between the conceiving of Madam Web and Spidey! But go easy on the girls, as I've a premonition that they will return fighting fit Ok.
Judy (2019)
Renée Zelweger Shines
A great biographical experience.
Renée plays Judy Garland in an engaging and convincing manner.
The best movie I've seen in 2019, no doubt.
Looking for Alaska: I'll Show You That It Won't Shoot (2019)
Dawsons Creek for 21st Century
As my title suggests, I find similarities with Dawsons Creek.
The teenage angst of young people going through education and experiencing the highs and lows, loves and fears of their peers and past experiences.
Great contemporary drama.
