Bailout: The Age of Greed (2013)
Living Vicariously
What this movie offers is opium for the masses, the fact is that the bankers and politicians that master minded the horrendous recession that we are going through have gotten away with it. They will never be brought to justice. Capitalism to a country is like AIDS, once you've got it, it's never going away. One of the many problems with the current system is that corporations own the government and have absolute control of the people. They have robbed you and you have done nothing about it because you can't do anything about it. Human beings are like puppets on a string ... its really that simple.
The thing about society is that people are encouraged to have bad guys, the government created them for you, immigrants, ethnic minorities, terrorists etc you are explicitly or covertly encouraged to hate these people, while the corporations shaft you, you shaft them. Its the same deal that the Nazis had with their populations, they had absolute control over them and encouraged them to hate the Jews and blame them for everything the world ills. They'll distract you with another war in the middle east that nobody wants and by the time they've finished with you, you won't know which way is up, never mind having justice for being royally shafted.
So just crawl back into you kennels and eat your doggy treats ... here boy.
The Unit: Bad Beat (2009)
Beautifully Subversive
For me this episode is one of the best of the whole series and it has nothing to do with the literal mission they are on but the screaming loud subtext of the Opium Wars.
The fact that Cool Breeze is force-injected heroine by the Chinese intelligence officer is a play on the British forcing Opium on China and fighting wars for the right to deal the most additive substance known to man to an entire country when China started to seize the goods. A direct result of these wars and their aftermath was that China went from being one of the most (if not the most) advanced culture of the time to being a basket case for over a hundred years. A period from which it is just emerging.
