Dimension (2007)
Some kind of stoner logic/film school project gone not well.
I couldn't get through the first half hour of this. The only way this film will grab your attention is if you are related to someone in the crew or cast, by familiar default. Otherwise, I normally will watch a film to the end, but this one of the few I would not. Don't bother.
The Ghoul (2016)
Thought provoking
I really enjoyed seeing this. The portrayal of mental illness was very endearing to me. If you don't overthink it, this film is about being "stuck" in so many ways.
It's pretty amazing work for a debut and a low budget picture. The soundtrack is really great, moving.
Looking forward to seeing more from this director.
Let Her Out (2016)
Stupidest movie I've seen since The Room
To delve into the details of why this movie is so bad would be a perfect waste of time, but I am going to anyway because I think it's hilarious. I watched the whole thing because after a while I just wanted to see what would happen. You'll find yourself asking so many questions like: why take a bicycle to go rescue your best friend? She really lives that close to the motel where her prostitute mom was raped and then stabbed herself to death? AND she and her best friend like to hang out there?? Or, can you really kill a man with a box cutter by stabbing him repeatedly in the chest? Or, why take the same bicycle back to where you came from when you could obviously just take the car? Why did a severed finger come out of her arm? Why did she throw up hair, the Twin wasn't in her stomach after all? Do they really make casts out of plaster anymore? Etc.
Here are a few other notes:
That's not how you slit your wrist, and everyone knows that by now.
If you're seriously going to commit suicide, get more than a half pint of vodka and a dozen pills.
If you want to run away from someone, do not try to escape out of the same window TWICE.
Just burn the painting if it bothers you so much.
Broken glass has a more interesting role in this movie than any actor.
What sort of doctor tells a patient they NEED brain surgery and sends them home for three days?
This movie is absolutely ridiculous. A junior high school creative writing student could conjure up a more interesting and less schlocky story.
Bad acting, annoying characters, super-unrealistic premises. Total train wreck of a movie. But, I'm not even angry about seeing it because I can tell others of how ludicrous and terrible it was!
Mayhem (2017)
One of the worst movies I have seen
The other bad reviews here are not being overly critical or nit picky, this movie is really bad. Some points I'd like to make:
Have you ever had the misfortune of spending time near someone with pink eye? It is uncomfortable, slightly disturbing, and some thing you will want to divert your attention from. So, why would a director give all the characters this effect?? It just deflated any 'horror' aspect and made me feel like I was in a free clinic.
And yet, I sat through it, as in a waiting room. I had to see the train wreck.
Aside from a matchbook understanding of Law, and an incredibly stupid clothes-on love making scene that rivals that of The Room, I did appreciate the name dropping of Motörhead, Anthrax (early), and D.R.I. even if those bands are not that great, and though it painfully illustrates the director or writer's age and mental fortitude.
I suppose if one is optimistic, Mayhem could be considered "fun". It could be "fun" to visit a leper colony too, but I wouldn't advise it. There are so many well-crafted and interesting horror films to watch, I wouldn't waste my time with this one. It's just bad, like really bad, not even in an ironic or clever way.
What was with his "best friend"? They seemed to have nothing in common, talk briefly about nothing, and then he's dead before we know anything about him, or the nature of his friendship to Derek. When his dead "best friend" gets pissed on, Derek cries- blaming the virus. Yet, he has the wherewithal and cognizance to scheme and fight his way through the building?
The list goes on.
Why did I watch it? I saw it as the image for the Shudder app on my FireTV, so I foolishly thought it might be worth a watch. I was wrong. Watch 'Train to Busan' instead.
