The American Society of Magical Negroes (2024)
Give it a fair chance
I love David Allen Grier and Justice Smith and I love their chemistry. This movie did get slow at times, but it did bring things to my attention that I had been previously unaware of. I had such little understanding of what black peoples lives were like on a daily basis and how much discrimination they have to deal with. BLM opened my eyes to a lot and this movie helps further that. I'm baffled by the copious amounts of bad reviews. I wouldn't watch this again, but I'm glad I did once. Things have to change and even though this movie didn't get a great reception it's an important step forward. Keep talking about uncomfortable things, because that's the only way things will change.
Men (2022)
All you need is the last fifteen minutes
Men has been on my list for a long time. I had a feeling I probably wouldn't like it, which is why I waited so long. Very glad I didn't waste money to see it in the theater. As other reviews on IMDB say, the beginning was promising, but it did not hold up past the first half hour. I almost turned it off with about twenty minutes to go, but I kept on and I'm glad I did. Men is not worth watching for the ending alone, but if you want to see some good body horror watch the last fifteen minutes. You won't be missing much. Watch a synopsis on YouTube, but I wouldn't recommend raw dogging this entire movie. Wasted opportunity.
Elvis (2022)
Exceptionally awful
From the opening scene you know this is going to be a mess. Elvis starring Tom Hanks' worst accent to date. This movie hurt my brain. It's so fast and loud, nothing leaves a lasting impression. I'm not even halfway through and I doubt I'll make it all the way. Glad I didn't see this in the theater.
Elvis is a creep. I don't think there ever needs to be another film about Elvis unless it addresses the reality of who he actually was. At least Great Balls of Fire addressed what actually happened. Why did it destroy Jerry Lee's career and not Elvis'?
Can we also talk about how bad Tom Hanks' makeup/mini fat suit was? Just hire fat actors! I assure you, they do exist.
Titane (2021)
Infuriating
Oh, I hated it so much! I have to be missing the point, right? I honestly took nothing away from this movie. Two hours gone forever. I hated this as much as I hated Tusk, and that's a lot.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Sopranos fans and people who like good movies beware
The first major thing that was awful with this movie was surprisingly Ray Liotta and his dual roles. The only good part was when he was murdered. So, Christopher's ghost is narrating this movie and somehow baby Chris hates Tony, because he knows he "choked me to death." Carmela is only in one scene for about 60 seconds and Janice is barely in it either. I am a huge Sopranos fan and it was interesting to see some things mentioned in the show, like the shot through the beehive, but wow, in general this movie was terrible. I knew it wasn't going to be good, but damn. So glad I didn't see it in the theater.
Black Widow (2021)
Believe the hype!
Everything they say is true; Black Widow is so boring and 45 minutes too long. Florence Pugh was the only good part.
Riding in Cars with Boys (2001)
How is this heartwarming??
All around awful movie. The only reasons to watch it are Brittany. Murphy and Lorraine Bracco, and even they can't save it. Drew Barrymore's accent was very distracting. James Woods is as unlikeable as ever. I had no interest in this awful woman's story. Very depressing. I kept screaming in my head for the kid to escape. The worst.
