Cachorro (2004)
A wonderful movie that doesn't fall into Hollywood stereotypes
I have recently seen the movie,Bear Cub, aka Cachorro. It's honest, it's true, and it's a refreshing look into the life of a gay bear, Pedro, who must take care of his Sister's son as she goes on vacation with her hippie boyfriend. I like that Cachorro represented gays as normal guys and not the stereotypic Will and Grace type of gay guy we see all the time in Hollywood. I got the unrated version which has some surprisingly explicit sex scenes for a mainstream movie. They were HOT. But the real cream of the crop is within the brilliant child actor who played Bernardo. We have Hailey Joe Osmond, I guess Spain's answer to that is him.
The Last Mimzy (2007)
A magical hypnotic adventure.
First of all, I went into this movie not knowing much about it.
I only saw the trailer once or twice- the whole concept of the
movie I found interesting. So, I went to see it.
Story: The story is great, it's about two kids who find a box of toys from the future. One of these toys is a stuffed rabbit, Mimzy. Mimzy warns that the people of the future are sick. Our two main characters must find a way to help her. It's presented in very realistic way - even though the plot is very weird. It combines science, religion quite well, in a logic vs fantasy conflict... I think. I read that some complaint that the movie is dragged out... is not. The slow plot makes the atmosphere of the movie all more ominous and magical. It's 70% style and 30% substance.
Visuals: Not much. But when it comes to the weird close ups and amazing CGI effects, it's quite a treat. Not Oscar worthy stuff, but it very cool.
Audio: I loved the sound effects. Which made the movie stand out, the music was flat and un-original, but the weird and funky sound effects made up for it . Mimzy's cute rabbit talk voice rivals over the voice of Mogwai from GREMLINS. Creepy, but adorable at the same time!
Robot Chicken (2001)
Southpark in clay
The first time I saw this show I was blown away. Most of all,I was laughing so much. I had to watch the repeat of the same episode so I know what the hell was it I was watching. When the titles come up we are introduce to the plot: A Mad Scientist creates a Robot Chicken. Mad Scientist wants to advance Robot Chicken so he gives him lessons with a massive set of TVs.Durring the show we become the character, Robot Chicken, giving us a greater dept on "What the freak is this Mad Scientist is putting into this chicken's head?" Robot Chicken is a show about, well, insanity. It may not make sense, but that is whats so funny about it.
