Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)

The premise of an Alien vs. Predator movie sounds pretty good. But after a bit of a let down after the first one, I was hoping that they upped that premise. But unfortunately that was not the case with this one.

First of all, and it has mentioned here before by other reviewers, it's very dark. Dark as in lightning and shooting this movie. Almost everything is in the dark and most of the time you can't see what's going on.

Really? Is that what they wanted with this movie?

Terrible choice!

It's such a great let down.

Second. The story is dull and uninspiring. There's no character building and it's just predators chasing aliens (in the dark) and using humans as bait, targets, vesicles...but with little to none explanation.

Not sequel worthy for this franchise... just a big let down for fans.

Fall (I) (2022)

Gets boring

Ok, as far as believable characters go... this one is a no.. stupid people do stupid things.

Started of interesting, until about 2/3 of the movie. It went boring and I got myself checking my phone for messages.

The feeling of being on a platform high up in the sky is presented well, but the runtime of the movie doesn't keep the pace of that feeling, or suspension.

As I said, after 2/3rd I was done and bored. The story couldn't keep me interested, as with the atmosphere, the cinematography, the plot.

It fell flat.

Ok, stupid characters... well there's 2, and of course there isn't a movie without them. But in this movie I was hoping the 2 main characters didn't survive. Just because of their (written) characters. The last part of this movie couldn't save their dreadful attitudes, or weak characters.

The tension for half of the movie was ok... but it fell flat and couldn't keep me interested.

Evil Dead Rise (2023)

Could and should be more ED like

Evil Dead is an odd serie in the horror genre.

With the first one setting the tone for the ultimate b horror movie.

After that, mr. Sam Raimi went even more creative with the next 2 parts.

After a few years of silence in this franchise, we got treated with a rather nicely done remake of the first Evil Dead. But without mr. Raimi (but still leaving his "mark") And now there's Evil Dead Rise. New premise, new sight... And it left me somewhat unsatisfied.

The gore is there for sure and some creative visual camara work. But there's something missing.

I think it's the banter between evil and anti hero.

But also the somewhat clumsiness of the anti hero.

Don't get me wrong, the performances in ED Rise are good. But it's just the little bits of Ash like heroism that I miss. And that is the touch of extra in the originals that made ED stand out.

BattleBots (2015– )

Very fun and enjoyable

Love the creativity and engineering. And yes, it's pretty a U. S. show with the over-the-top sauce of entertainment.

But hey... it's self built robots fighting eachother. What more do you expect? What more do you want?

Self built robots playing chess?

It's just great fun and once again, thumbs up for the builders of these absolutely weird machines.

Only complaint I have is the jury. And in extension probably the producers of this show.

Soms judgements are doubtful and questionable.

But that's just a little criticism.

The battles, the robots, the creativity...I love it!

Just enjoy the show, with some friends and gamble a little. Cheer for your favorites, booh for the poor judgement. Just enjoy it!

Smile (V) (2022)

Jokes on you

In a lot of situations that happened, my thoughts went...yeah but.

And it went on getting annoying.

Don't get me wrong, the storytelling is very well done.

But, for example, if somebody encounters a suicide in front of you. The next day you go to work again?

No emotional support by your employer? Some time to put things together?

Or on a party, you fall into a glass table...and everyone just stands around and do nothing?

That's unreal.

And that therapist...and even her friend/husband.... So unrealistic.

These kind of things bothered me (there are a few more) It's just lazy writing imo. They go the easy way.

It keeps it all very shallow.

And here comes Joel, as her understanding consciousness... how reveling!

And after some unexplained hallucinations, the main character goes to her desolated home to face her demon.

Which is poorly explained over in a heartbeat.

And here comes Joel again...

Meh... this movie annoyed me.

Just another one that tries to be smart with some lame storytelling. But it fails. Very much, very bad.

Night of the Bastard (2022)

Not bad, not good. Just a fun surprise.

I went into this without knowing one thing about it.

And it turned out to be pretty good fun.

Ok, it's not the biggest surprise. But the movie kept me entertained the whole time.

The anti hero Reed had his heart in the right place.

Starting of as a grumpy, lonely, alcoholic nobody somewhere in a dessert. With fresh reluctance he's going to help the damsel in distress Kierra.

Trying to save her, and himself, from some sort of cult with strange rituals (who don't believe in guns)...

The story isn't flawless and the members of the coven/cult are indeed pretty dumb. But the story kept the pace going. With a little bit of humor sprinkled into it.

I wish they did more with Creed's OCD... The practical fx are alright And the last scene gave me a big smile, all though pretty grimm.

You go Marlon!!!

Skinamarink (2022)

Could've been better

A nice and fresh take in the scene. Pretty unique.

But I started to lose interest in about 10 minutes in.

Don't get me wrong... the style is absolutely unsettling and omnious. But it's the same style throughout and that what's getting bored.

Still shots that go on for too long, some inaudible voices, grainy scènes...all done in a good way, but it gets pretty boring. Too bad.. I really hoped this one got a new, fresh take on the genre. But it lacks. It keeps repeating itself until it gets boring or repetitive.

I think the so called hype is only for the style of this new movie. But as mentioned, it's nothing more than that.

Bloody Hell (2020)

That was fun

There are a lot of movies coming out with somewhat the same premise and most of them rely on standard ways to earn money (jump scares, forgettable acting, another remake, another twist in a franchise, ...etc.) But this one was a fresh take on, well, the horror comedy genre.

It has a surprising way of storytelling, with the use of some flashbacks. But in this story, they fit well.

The use of a physical conscious (for what the audience sees), is hilarious.

Big thumbs up for the lead actor. He did a great job with that.

But also. It's nice to see something that isn't trying to go into your face all the time with those mentioned (cheap) jump scares or forced humor. It's just good storytelling, good acting, nice pace, great camera work.

Well done!

Terrifier 2 (2022)

I didn't like Terrifier that much. It's not a good horror movie. The fx are alright, but there's a dull story and the creepy clown idea of Art gets pretty lame fast. It's just not that interesting.

But I gave the sequel a try. And after viewing it, my opinion hasn't changed.

Still, the practical fx are a great plus. But the rest of the movie left me unsatisfied.

I can see why Art has become a horror icon. But to me the movies he's in are just boring... story wise.

And the runtime of this sequel is ridiculous.

I recommend this only if you're a fan of practical gore fx. And if you can, fast forward to these parts in the movie. The rest isn't interesting.

I See You (II) (2019)

Good thriller

A very well done thriller with intertwining stories.

Good acting, good atmosphere, great sound!

The movie has some great tricks that are presented for you to leave you guessing. I think this becomes a classic cult movie.

Overlooked and under the radar, but definitely a one -to-watch.

Very well done.

Hereditary (2018)

I just can say this is a modern classic.

It's very well written, well produced and very well acted.

The build up and the overall sense of dread and miscomfort is presented in style. Perfect drama, horror and suspense.

Not the movie itself, but the premise haunted me for days. Well done!

Slasher (2016–2023)

Ok, but has its flaws

The seasons of this show are well written, although they aren't flawless. Nevertheless I enjoyed them and for the fans of slashers, they will leave you satisfied.

Acting is sometimes not all that great, but the gore and practical fx are a great hommage to the slashers we all love.

There's something to like in every story and that makes this watchable.

Aquaslash (2019)

I don't get some of the negative comments here.

This is a genuine, solid action movie.

Actors are doing a good job, the action scenes are well done and the story is fast paced.

Ok, maybe the story isn't that complicated and it's a straight up revenge movie.

But people giving this such low ratings is a bit off, in my opinion.

I enjoyed it very much and will give it my thumbs up.

As this one deserves.

The Hunt (II) (2020)

I gave it a try, but after 20 minutes I already didn't care for this. This shouldn't be called a remake and it is a shame to the original. Don't waste your time, like I did. This is empty and lacks everything the original did have. Just a few stars for some well done cinematography and stunts. But it doesn't carry the movie all the way. -- (and why does everyone in this movie have tattoos?)

Coffee & Kareem (2020)

I have to agree with a lot of people here. The kid, although it's the character he plays, ruined it and is horribly annoying. I blame the bad writing. This could've been a much better movie but sadly it failed.

Doctor Sleep (2019)

Great story, great acting and a well done "sequel". I think the third act could be a bit more like the rest of the movie, but overall it left me satisfied. I didn't find it slow at all. The story went along just fine and kept me interested. Definitely a solid movie and it can proudly stand next to the Shining.

Deadtectives (2018)

This was a fun movie. Story was alright, some funny scenes, fine acting. I thought it was a cross between the Frighteners and Ghostbusters. Definitely a movie I'd watch again.

Well made sci-fi comedy with some decent fx and some horror elements. But as mentioned somewhere before; there's too much going on. Movie can't decide which way to go. And on some points the movie wanders of and I started to check my phone. It's nothing new, but nevertheless well made.

Headless (I) (2015)

I don't get the hype that some people write about. The movie is average and somewhat boring. The acting and dialogue (for what there is) are not so good. The story is also dull and gets repetitive. But, there are also some good things to say. Practical fx are on point and the music is well done.

Indeed a movie for real lovers of the genre, but it isn't groundbreaking.

Night of Something Strange (2016)

Fun and gore in a simple story, but it was very entertaining. It's over the top at some points, but it's all done by people who love the genre. Definitely a movie to have a great time with friends and have a good laugh.

Dead Night (2017)

I got curious after reading all the negative comments online about this movie. And after watching it I have to say, it's not that bad. Ok, I understand that the story and the plot are vague and it leaves many questions. But to give it such bad ratings and reviews is a bit out. There are movies that are way worse than this and yes, also better. It's not a masterpiece and won't be a favorite. But it still has some descent acting, descent fx, nice cinematography and atmosphere.
