A Masque of Madness (Notes on Film 06-B, Monologue 02) (2013)
A huge letdown.
I went to see this at the indie film festival in Cork. It was just 80 minutes of very brief shots of various films strung together haphazardly..The kind of stuff you can see on YouTube.
Although a Karloff fan I found it annoying and boring...There were about 12 people in the cinema...One, an old woman left halfway through..
I don't really know what I was expecting but this was very poor stuff indeed. But I did remain to the end hoping it would improve.I went to see something similar on Lon Chaney Sn last year and didn't enjoy that either. So perhaps I should not have gone to see this one either.
Shadows of Fear: Repent at Leisure (1971)
Excellent anthology episode
One of the best episodes along with The Death Watcher. A lady marries a younger man with no money and few prospects. They live together in her comfortable home and are in love..The story builds well with great acting, and leads to an exciting and unexpected climax.
I have always enjoyed Alethea Charlton who sadly died at the young age of 43...Her's is a supporting part..
This series was released on DVD by Network a few years ago...There are 11 episodes in all. It's low budget stuff with few outdoor sequences. All but one of the episodes are in colour. The black and while episode was filmed during a BBC cameraman strike during which no colour was used.
