Break Point: Take the Crown (2023)
What about the women's game?
What happened to equality of the sexes in this series and in this episode in particular? Does Netflix think that tennis players are only worth following if they are male? Ash Barty, the female Australian winner of this tournament, walked passed the camera at one point, but she was totally ignored in this narrative of male players and their macho performances. Why not show a balanced view of the tournament and the pressure faced by females players as well as the males counterparts. It is especially irritating since the winner of the women's tournament was an Australian and an outstanding sportswoman in every respect.
Sophie: A Murder in West Cork (2021)
Long draw out documentary
If only this could have been done a tighter and more focus manner I might have enjoyed it more. The Irish judicial system seems to have reach a conclusion about this crime and it might have been worth examining why this is case rather than pursuing the theories proposed by other less authoritative bodies.
Time (2021)
A hard watch, but worth it
The start of this 3 part series is particularly gruelling and you may be tempted to stop watching, but if you keep going you will be rewarded by a brilliant piece of drama and fine acting.
Behind Her Eyes: Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Didn't see that coming!
I found much of the series rather tedious and only stuck with it to see how it would end. It was going to get a 5 or 6 until this final episode which totally surprised me and lifted the series to a solid 7.
Young Wallander: Episode 6 (2020)
Disappointing end
I enjoyed thd series as a whole, but was disappointed by the abrupt and less than satisfactory ending.
The Spy (2019)
Excellent drama, shame about the colour
The drama follows the true story of Eli Cohen who spied for Israeli intelligence in Syria in the early 1960s. It is well acted and the script is exciting without departing too dramatically from the true story. The only criticism I have is about the way the colour is bleached out to depicted past events or sometimes for more obscure reasons. I wish they would have left the colour alone and found a less irritating way to signal a change of timeframe.
Roma (2018)
Disappointed considering its wealth of Oscar nominations
I found this film quite slow and in places tedious. However there are some moments of tension and one scene towards the end of the film lifts it out of the ordinary and stays with you after the titles roll. I am surprised at the number of Oscar nomination it received as I wouldn't have thought it merited any.
