How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)
Great ending to the series.
Review on How To Train Your Dragon Three.
Let's start with the basics. This movie brought emotion to me as a finally wonderful answer to our questions. (our being those of us that followed the series.)
How to train your dragon two caused a separation between those that watched the first movie and those that watched the following series. If you did not watch the animated series, you would not know about the progression between the two movies.
It was a sad move on the writers part, as they made a number of assumptions.
They corrected that in the third movie. There is no series that you have to watch if you saw the second movie. It continues as if nothing happened.
It also explores when someone should decide that they are defeated. At some point in time, your pride will get the better of you. You always have something to learn. No matter what you think you know.
PROS: It has a lot of action: But not as much as you would expect from seeing the other movies. It gives a lot of life lessons. It will make you cry.
Cons: It assumes that you have known from the other two movies how the dragons came to be. It repeats a lot of the same rhetoric that it did in the other two movies and throughout the in between series. "Dragons are part of Berk". People make a lot of dumb decisions. Expect some cringe there.
Overall rating. I am a bit biased on this movie as I have watched from the beginning. Still, I can only give it an 8 out of 10.
The acting was amazing. Nobody disappointed me. At no point did I at all think that the actors were acting. The story was great.
I do recommend it.
Killer Kate! (2018)
This movie had promase. Then I watched it.
So I just watched a good three fourths of the movie "Killer Kate".
At the first half of the movie, I was planning on writing something half nice about it. "This movie is not the worst movie ever, but its not the best."
Then I watched part of the second half and, if I am being completely honest, I could not finish it. It really is that bad.
If this were a parody of a horror movie, I would give it credit. But its not. Its classed as horror/thriller.
Want to know HOW bad? I will put it this way. At one point the writers seem to completely forget that they killed off a character. They poison the character, have us watch as she dies, and show her running from and interacting with one of the killers two scenes later. That is far from the worst part, but its a fine example as the rest of the movie makes mistake after mistake just like it.
This might have been more fun with Weed, but I sort of doubt it.
It gets 3 out of 10 from me. Feel free to watch it, but don't pay to do so. You will hate yourself later if you do.
Atomic Blonde (2017)
Good movie to rent if you cannot find anything to watch...
I would like to start by addressing two criticisms that I keep seeing in reviews often. The first is that it is too much like John Wick with a female lead, and the second is that it is an example of Feminism gone crazy in 2017. Addressing the latter first, I do not see much in the way of feminist propaganda throughout the movie. I am usually one of the first to pick up and point out political agenda in movies, and I am just not seeing it here. It has a strong female lead with plenty of strong male supporting characters. Not so much in the way of "Girl Power" that others seem to notice. People seem to forget that there where a lot of female spies during WWII, and I find it kind of nice to see this one picking that up as a story. As for the former (being a ripoff of John Wick); Sure, I guess you could say that it takes some tips from that movie, but with a radically different style. I only see a slight connection.
This movie plays off of the WWII spy theme that is often over used by movies these days, but with a refreshing take. It is also filmed in a style reminiscent of movies like Sin City, and Watchmen (both movies I would recommend). It can be a bit slow at times, but it will keep you entertained throughout and ends pretty nicely. Still the story does leave a bit to be desired, and the writing is pretty much the normal for a lot of movies these days. Not fantastic, but not terrible. The lighting could use some work, but they where trying to set a tone for the movie and accomplished it marginally well. Special shout-out to the camera work during the fight scenes, which are themselves fantastic.
Overall, I would defiantly recommend renting this one if you cannot find anything else to watch. Don't get your hopes up, but don't expect to be too disappointed either. 7 out of 10 from me.
Batman and Harley Quinn (2017)
Not bad...
OK, so this is not the movie to take seriously. If you enjoy Batman for its raw humor over the years, this movie will be a nice callback for you. If you prefer the dark ways of the last 9 years, maybe watch something else. Harley was played by a somewhat cringe voice actor but there is some fun in that. She is supposed to have one of those voices, and it just works well in this. This will not be the right movie for everyone so I would suggest that you go into it expecting mixed results.
Psychos (2017)
Bad. Just really, really, bad...
I had some hope for this movie as I enjoy movies based on this premise. This movie is almost completely unwatchable. The acting is flat, the lighting itself is terrible (same lighting scheme used no matter the setting), and the script is one of the worst that I have ever heard. If you told me that this was a student film, I would believe you. Then I would suggest that the students that made it learn a bit more about basic editing. I have no idea how anyone was able to rate this 5 or more.
