Jojo Rabbit (2019)

A different but very good movie about WWII

The premise is insane. A comedy about WWII, about a about a boy in the Hitler Jugend who has an imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler.

It is surprising the movie got funded.

One must put a movie in a box and so it is 'a comedy'.

That is disingenuous. It is full with information and time accurate events. It is most of all a movie telling the story as seen by the eyes of an 10-year old boy with a lot of imagination. While not the same some comparison can be made with the great movie 'La vita è bella'.

This movie will educate the viewer about WWII about the atmosphere of the time. And probably will bring you to tears. Do not expect grant stunt works. This is a movie with actors who act splendidly.

It is an exceptional good movie that is much more then 'a comedy'. This is movie art at its best.

Operation Mincemeat (2021)

Not bad and nicely done

This is certainly not a bad movie. It is an interesting historical fact the used as a story. The actors are excellent. The production is also very good. Can't fault the decors, clothes, etc. It all looks very good. This is not an action movie. They are people who meet, speak, and prepare things. A weak love story. Little bit of internal espionage. Nice is the presence in a supporting role of Ian Fleming and various references to what James Bond will become. Even though the film is quite 'ok', this is not a film that I see myself re-watching. In the end it all comes off a bit weak. And above all I ask myself 'What were the real elements in this story and what did they invent to shape the storyline of the film?' Glad I saw this film but actually this would have worked better as a good documentary than a feature film.

Them (2021– )

Does not know what it wants to be

This show has good things. Point of view a black family moving in a withe neighborhood. Black man working an unlikely job for that time. Black kids in a withe school.

All fine. Very nice visuals. Good production.

The problem is the mess it up by adding all the crazy stuff in it. It feels like at least like two different styles are mixed together. Historic racism aspect and weird horror crazy stuff; It conflicts strongly. End result is it sucks. Could have easily be good.

The Midnight Sky (2020)

A great production does not make a great movie

With some movies you regret watching them. Some movies you can imagine or even you know you will watch them again some day.

This is in the middle. The visuals are great, especially the space ship. Looks probably a bit to much designed then realistic but it is ok. It is not nuts.

At all looks great. No fast moving cuts, nearly no confusing time jumps. It is lineair.

But with that I have used all the positive things I can say about it.

The story is more a concept then a story. A big reveal at then end about one of the characters is not original and I suspected it and I was correct.

It just does not make a lot of sense. You are left with a lot of questions and not in a good way.

Into the Night (II) (2020–2021)

Fairly good in it's genre

For so far it goes about the premise, the origin of the disaster; there are much less believable used in other movies or series.

Basically you have a group of people stuck together by accident trying to survive with a clear time restriction going on.

Yes, some things are probably not very realistic but hé, this is an action-suspens movie/series, not a documentary. And many, many series do it much worse on that front.

I do not really have a problem with that acting. Some persons behave a bit to caricatured. But overal it is entertaining.
