Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Koujou (2023)
Interesting World & Youthful Romance setting
The company Mappa, known for producing "Attack on Titan: The Final Season," has created its own animated movie called "Maboroshi." This sci-fi youth romance film resembles "Your Name." Despite a seemingly familiar time-space plot involving a steel factory explosion creating a fictional space, it introduces a new twist. The story unfolds in a perpetual world where everything stays the same, people don't age, and life continues. Occasionally glimpses of the real world appear, but if emotions disrupt the balance, spirits take individuals away until the space vanishes. It delves into philosophy, exploring understanding one's existence and deciding their future. The main plot follows the romantic journey of three young boys and girls within this eternal setting, offering a mix of sweetness and heartache in their love story.
Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune (2023)
confused storytelling
I have watched the 6-episode series called "YAKITORI" The story revolves around Earth being subjected to trade by the Cosmic Commerce Alliance. Due to a debt crisis, important resources are seized, resulting in the loss of sovereignty. The main character, resembling a product, is sold to the Alliance as a soldier to plunder resources from other planets.
The oppressed planets, inhabited by rodent-like creatures, desire to preserve their independent culture and sovereignty. As a result, they rise up in rebellion against the Alliance. Throughout the series, the protagonist actively fights against the oppressive group, indiscriminately bombing villages.
I initially thought that the 6 episodes would shed light on the dark side of the Alliance. However, the unexpected turn of events in the series has surprised me.
Oshi no Ko: Reality Dating Show (2023)
simply incredibly entertaining
Captivated by Episode 5 of "Oshi no Ko" (My Favorite Child), oh, it was simply incredibly entertaining.
(Slight spoiler) I have to share my favorite parts. Aquaria's live show was just hilarious. The contrast between his performance and his real self was off the charts. And the YouTube video of Ruby and Kana filming the Chicken Dance had me in stitches, I even watched it multiple times. Every movement was meticulously executed, the turns, the gestures, nothing was overlooked. They filmed the Chicken Dance against a green background, creating an endless space for creative interpretation.
The endings of each episode are well done, always leaving me feeling exhilarated, as if it's a fresh start, making me eagerly anticipate the exciting developments in the next episode.
Gekijôban Vaioretto Evâgâden (2020)
A Captivating Journey of Growth and Reflection
After completing the 13-episode series of "Violet Evergarden," I proceeded to watch the special episode (30 minutes), the movie side story (1 hour 30 minutes), and the theatrical film (2 hours 20 minutes) in chronological order. Each episode moved me to tears and was incredibly captivating. However, I initially thought that the subsequent installments would simply feature various side stories intertwined with the main narrative. To my surprise, each arc showcased significant physical and personal growth of the characters. The theatrical film delivered the ultimate conclusion, providing closure for every character, including those who appeared in previous episodes.
This conclusion not only encompassed the individual character arcs but also depicted an era's transformation. As the war came to an end, the age of letter writing was replaced by telephone communication. The construction of the Eiffel Tower symbolized this shift, conveying a simple yet poignant representation of changing times. Moreover, the protagonist's occupation as a ghostwriter gradually faded away. In the final moments of the movie, we witnessed the perspective of a modern-day descendant of one of the customers, reflecting on the experiences of the C. H. Postal Company and Violet Evergarden's life.
This series captivated me with its nuanced portrayal of emotions and profound character development. It is not merely a heartwarming story but also a journey exploring themes of love, pain, growth, and self-discovery. It transports the audience into a unique and enchanting world, prompting contemplation about the meaning and value of life. Through its exceptional storytelling and well-crafted characters, "Violet Evergarden" has left a lasting impression, solidifying its status as an unforgettable masterpiece.
Violet Evergarden (2018)
a very interesting and touching series
A unique love story set against the backdrop of a heavy past and a new environment, each episode of which tells a different story. The female protagonist goes to different places to help people write letters, including stories about love, marriage, and family.
The visuals are stunning, and although it was initially thought to be a teenage drama series, it turned out to be a poignant story about the aftermath of war. I particularly enjoyed the voice acting in this production.
The camera work is also beautiful, such as the opening scene where a piece of paper flies from home to the city and back to the street, which is executed exceptionally well. The characters' static movements also feel natural.
Overall, it is a very interesting and moving series.
Oshi no Ko (2023)
A Bold and Heartfelt Story of the Entertainment Industry
I was blown away by the first episode of "Oshi No Ko" (Pushing My Favorite Child), which tells a realistic and daring story of the entertainment industry. The character development is incredibly nuanced and touching, drawing me in from the first scene.
Clocking in at a feature-length 90 minutes, the first episode breaks conventions and tells a complete story of the protagonist's mother. The themes of idol life and the contrast between lies and reality are expertly explored, making for a truly extraordinary viewing experience.
Furthermore, the episode is elevated by the beautiful and haunting soundtrack from Yoasobi, which adds a layer of depth to an already emotionally resonant story.
Overall, "Oshi No Ko" Episode 1 is a masterpiece of storytelling, and I am eagerly anticipating the rest of the series, which promises to be a thrilling detective story in the making.
Gojira shingyura pointo (2021)
Beloved new adaptation of the Godzilla series.
"Godzilla Singular Point" is a fantastic animated series that I absolutely loved. It offers a fresh take on the classic Godzilla story with a well-crafted world-building and plot. The show also features a lot of science fiction dialogues that are both engaging and imaginative. The animation style is reminiscent of 90s Japanese OVA anime, which adds a nostalgic charm to the series. The tenth episode's Godzilla performance and music are simply iconic and unforgettable. The show also features a plethora of monsters, which grow and evolve alongside the story, providing more surprises and emotional depth to the plot. Additionally, the opening and ending music is fantastic. The redesigned Mecha Godzilla is visually stunning and captivating. The most impressive aspect of the series is the new set-up where humans engage in single-combat with monsters, which adds a new level of challenge and excitement to the story. Overall, "Godzilla Singular Point" is a must-watch for any science-fiction or kaiju fans.
