All of Us Strangers (2023)
One of the most boring films I've ever watched
Despite my deep admiration for Andrew Scott and my recent binge-watching of his works, I have to admit that I encountered a movie recently that, despite his involvement, managed to lull me to sleep not once, but twice. It's not a reflection of Scott's talent, but rather an unfortunate consequence of the film's excruciatingly slow pace and lackluster plot.
In my 40 years on this planet, I've encountered my fair share of slow-moving films, but this one takes the cake in terms of sheer boredom. It's akin to watching paint dry or waiting for grass to grow - an exercise in patience that ultimately leaves you feeling embarrassed for having invested your time in it. It was slow and tedious to push through the whole thing.
I wish I could offer a redeeming quality or recommend it to others, but alas, I cannot. It's an extremely dull movie that fails to engage on any level. Even for die-hard fans of Andrew Scott, I would caution against subjecting yourself to such tedium.
I would give it 0 stars if i could, the one is, because the cast is good, it's just the script that's painfully boring and indistinct.
The Witcher: Everybody Has a Plan 'til They Get Punched in the Face (2023)
Best episode this season
Best episode this season. Not sure if that's a praise or just the other episodes, especially in the second volume (6-8) being so poor.
However, as is the theme of this season, it kind of focuses on and answers questions that nobody asked/cared about while ignoring answering the things that truly matter. Emphasizing on the stories you've built previously and connecting the dots must be done seamlessy, this is not the case this season.
That being sad, I liked the fast-paced action and so much stuff happening at once, if only the other two episodes (7 & 8, which are the weakest witcher episodes in its entirety) kept delivering in the same vein.
There are so many questions, so much unexplored potential, so much about Emhyr, Ciri, Geralt they could've done more/better, but we didn't get anything. As a whole, this season left me starved for satisfaction & knowledge. Of course, its nice to be a little hungry to end on a cliffhanger and expect the next season - however in here, i'm not just hungry, I'm starved, they gave me almost nothing I needed.
