American Horror Story: The Future Perfect (2021)
My whelm is very much undered.
The teasers and promos were, apparently, outright bull. The talented actors were wasted. Nothing unexpected actually happened. Murphy and the writers are now just using revealing things that happened decades ago but haven't been revealed to the viewer as if they're twists when it's a hollow substitute for decent writing at best. Things are introduced as if they're important but have literally ZERO impact on anything. If it weren't for my love for the actors my rating would be a 1. As a series I'm starting to find it a chore. Considering the potential, it's shameful.
Edit: Where was the link to Kit and his kids? "The first successful hybrid in sixty years"? So, what, the alien storyline in Asylum has just been tossed aside?
American Horror Stories: Game Over (2021)
Second worst episode of a poor season...
Behind the influencer episode and closely followed by the first two episodes. The 'twist' is basically an "it was all a dream" cop out, and the whole thing simultaneously has no impact on the show while opening so many problems. It's a sh/t storm of bad and lazy writing.
American Horror Stories: Ba'al (2021)
Definitely the best of the series so far...
...which isn't a high bar, sure, but this was actually a really enjoyable episode. The only issue I really had with it is the twist(s) feel very tagged on to the ending. The "but this happened, and this happened, plus this happened" which could have been made much better if they didn't feel attached on to satisfy people's expectation of a twist.
Black Widow (2021)
Oddly enjoyable but disappointing simultaneously
The film isn't bad at all, per se, but doesn't really impact the main MCU story arc. The Easter eggs were fun, but I suppose I was hoping for the prequel to an OG Avenger, and one as underused in the franchised so far, to impact the overall MCU story line more - especially given the ending to her MCU storyline.
Run (2020)
Enjoyable.
Sure, it's not exactly 'realistic' as many of the more negative reviews are pointing out, but how often are thrillers made about every day occurrences? Seems like a bit of a silly criticism to me.
The acting was good and the film does a good job of holding your interest as to what's really going on. Sure, it can be predictable in places but personally that didn't diminish the enjoyment for me. Can't help but feel most of the more negative reviews are looking for something to criticise for the sake of being contrarian.
Modern Family: A Year of Birthdays (2019)
Really?
From what I saw review wise before watching, I was expecting a funny but tear-jerker of an ending to the season. Unfortunately, child birth does not a finale make. The birth of Haley's kids feels like an afterthought, none of the cast get the chance to shine comedically, and Manny inspires nothing but sighs and eyerolls for the whole twenty-odd minutes. Disappointing.
Glass (2019)
Not your standard superhero movie
This film deserves a much better score than it has. It's grounded and original, and at parts can be pretty thought provoking. From what I've seen (I gave up reading since they all have the same misplaced complaints) the more critical reviews seem to expect an MCU style film, heavy on the action and blockbuster special effects. That isn't what this film aims for by any means, but that also doesn't make it a bad film or worthy of such criticism.
