The Imitation Game (2014)
The Imitation Game will be as one of the best film in history.
Adapted from Andrew Hodges novel "Alan Turing: The Enigma."
Based on the real life story of legendary Alan Turing, who is Mathematician, Logician, cryptographer, father of Computer Science and hero of World War II. He is also a great hero in the fight against prejudice.
The story line starts in 1939 at the time line of World War II, newly created British intelligence agency MI6 recruits Cambridge mathematics alumnus Alan Turing. (Benedict Cumberbatch) Whose secret project is to break secret code behind the Nazis communication machine, named Enigma. Which crypt analysts had thought was unbreakable. The problem is that Enigma is re coded every day, so that even if the team can decipher a coded message transmitted by the Nazis, that code would be obsolete by the next day. There are 159,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible codes that could be input into Enigma.
A largely arrogant, antisocial, and literal minded man, Alan is the team's initial leader. While the rest of the team work on breaking the day-to-day codes, believing that is the only way to learn the secret of Enigma. Alan works by himself on developing a machine with artificial intelligence, which he believes is required not just to break a daily code, but to break any code immediately when it is input into Enigma.
Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley) the only female member of the team, not only adds another brilliant mind to the team, but also provides Alan with a sense of how to behave socially to get things accomplished in a team setting. Just when the chemistry between Alan and Joan started to build, Alan tells Joan that he is homosexual, and can't start a relationship with her, which completely shifts the theme. And becomes the entire center of the film.
Despite this fact Alan and team finally succeed in making a machine in 1940, which can decode Enigma messages, and become heroes. The British government kept it as a secret for 50 long years. After their mission Alan and Joan became friends for life.
Everything was going fine until 1951, when Alan's home is reported broken into by his neighbor. Because nothing was stolen, Alan was quick to dismiss the police. But the lead investigator believed, Alan was hiding something. When the police discovered that Alan is homosexual, they send him to prison. Because it was a crime back then. But he somehow avoided prison showing medical reasons. Alan Turing committed suicide in 1954. He was only 41 years old then. The reason was pretty obvious social pressure about his sexuality.
The actors did their best in the movie. Benedict Cumberbatch was phenomenal.
As Cumberbatch says, at the start of the film "are you paying attention. You should pay attention, Alan Turing deserves your attention, and his story deserves to be told."
He made the character more interesting, while you may also get connected with his personal troubles.
Keira Knightley also did pretty well, even though there wasn't much about her character.
The Imitation Game holds a fascinating story which remains as one of the best film in history. Historians say, Alan shortened the war by two years and saved more than 14 million lives.
Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter (2016)
Basically Not a review, Just defining what are the implications of R+L=J? (Jon)
Here Sansa, by law, ought to be Ned's heir now that all his sons are dead. But the fact that Jon is a man and has been widely known in the North for years as Ned Stark's son, combined with the fact that he leads an army, has given him a strong claim to political authority. If he's actually Ned's sister's son, then his claim goes from questionable to garbage.
On the other hand, it turns out Jon might have a decent claim to the Iron Throne.
The son of Aerys's son Rhaegar should have a legally superior claim to Rhaegar's little sister Daenerys.
It's true that Jon is, as far as we know, a bastard. But it's also true that Targaryens practiced plural marriage, and for all we know Rhaegar and Lyanna were legally married — at least in Targaryen eyes.
And regardless of the legal details, if Jon has Targaryen blood in his veins that may mean he has Targaryen superpowers, including immunity to fire and the ability to ride dragons. That's the sort of thing that could come in hand when fighting an army of ice monsters. Conveniently, there's longstanding speculation that the hot springs that keep Winterfell inhabitable have something to do with a dragon or dragon's eggs in the crypts beneath the castle.
Udta Punjab (2016)
Udta Punjab remains 'Top Notch' considering every aspect.
This movie involves every effort which makes a film perfect – Action, Emotion, Drama, Suspense, Investigation, Love, and Hate. Should be the movie of the year.
From Alia Bhatt's irresistible cuteness come phenomenal acting, to Shahid Kapoor's comeback performance. 'Udta Punjab' is a must watch. As a newcomer Diljit Dosanjh was quite good. And Kareena Kapoor was flawless as always.
But Alia's performance in this film was outstanding. Yes, you can say that, this was the best role of her career so far. And to Shahid Kapoor, "kya gaali detey ho yaar."
Hats off to the makers. While dealing with an important issue like drugs, the story, never bores you. 'Udta Punjab' is filled with abuses, because that's what they are trying to show us. It need guts to do such kind of movie.
This movie spreads awareness about a very important issue in a very entertaining manner. This film is hilarious in many parts. And still, its emotional content is too strong!
A good command over "Punjabi" will help you to enjoy this film a lot more. But for others, like me, there is English subtitles.
