The Deepest Breath (2023)
Not just Freediving, its about finding yourself, the drive to be the best and human connection
As a person who was profoundly affected as a kid after watching 'The Big Blue', I was looking forward to watching this. I was pleasantly surprised as this documentary is more than just about freediving, its a spiritual and emotional journey about feeling lost in the world and finding yourself, about achieving unimaginable goals, living your dreams and driving to be the best. Its a story of human connection to each other and to the sea. I was deeply moved watching this, its also the perfect example of the fine line between the danger and the beauty of Freediving, the drive of its competitors and the pitfalls and rewards of pushing your limits , i highly recommend this documentary.
The Crowded Room (2023)
One of the greatest shows ever created
This show is unbelievably good, its a deep and emotional journey into the mind of someone with Multiple Personality Disorder, but it also touches on abuse and trauma. The writing and directing are exceptional. The acting from the lead characters is phenomenal, especially Tom Holland, who has shown with this role he has many layers to his acting skillset and has the talent to make it to the elite of his profession, this is his coming out party, he's no longer just spiderman, this performance has shades of a young De Caprio flexing his early talent before he hit the peak of his career. I can't recommend this show enough.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Absolutely sensational movie!
Top Gun Maverick is epic on every single level, the action is next level exciting and sets a bar that will be hard to beat. This film is also filled with emotion and sits in perfect conjunction to the first film. Well done Kosinski, Cruise, Bruckheimer and all the cast and crew, you made lightning strike twice and also made it strike twice as powerful. Absolute must see film.
Stranger Things: Chapter Four: Dear Billy (2022)
One name.......... Sadie Sink.
This episode is the breakout moment of a future oscar winner. Its one of the best TV episodes of all time, great use of nostalgic music, direction and writing. The level of acting from Sadie Sink is way beyond her years. This episode addresses delicate emotional issues with care and blends them in perfectly to the excellent storyline. Stranger Things moves from strength to strength.
1883 (2021)
Absolutely phenomenal
One of the best TV shows ever made, just watch it. Amazing writing, excellent acting, especially Sam Elliott, but all the actors are on fire. As a Yellowstone fan this is the history ,heritage and power that fuel's the present day Dutton story. Just remarkably good.
After Life (2019)
Emotional, Hilarious , A Masterpiece
Its rare crying tears of laughter one minute and then tears of emotion five minutes later, this show is a masterpiece, sprinkled with hilarious humour tactfullly placed in the middle of deeply emotional scenes between the brilliantly written characters. Ricky Gervais is a fantastic writer, director and actor, this show is the perfect manual to understanding grief and finding a reason to continue through the heartbreak. I loved this show.
Clara (2018)
Science and love collide to create a classic
This really is a beautifully crafted film, its a character piece on connection and hope primarily, its just set on the backdrop of a science movie, it burns slow with great story telling and the end is brilliant, you'll be thinking about it long after the credits roll.
Triple Frontier (2019)
Average film, marred by bad writing
This film started pretty good and I was expecting something pretty special from the trailer, but some terrible writing caused the main characters to make some terrible decisions not fitting the military training they were supposed to be elite at. All the characters, but mainly Afflecks were inconsistent to their personas built up in the early stages of the film, which made them irritating and not likeable, as poor decision after another put them further and further into a situation they could have avoided.
