Nice scenery! Crap movie!
9 April 2005
After sitting through the 100 minutes of this film the only enduring feature about it is the occasional shot of the beautiful African country side. There just simply wasn't anything else good about it.

The movie centers around a group of hard as nails mercenaries whose assignment is to penetrate deep into the jungles of the Congo to retrieve Government documents captured by a rebel army. The mercenaries, or red berets as they are called, are made up of a motley bunch of hombres, there's the tough Irish man, the angry and un-social French man, the useless Captain who's trying to save his tattered reputation and a murderous German who is a pro-Nazi, and yes he hates every man, woman and child that happened to be born black.

When watching this movie the cheap production values become apparent, (but hay I wasn't expecting a Hollywood blockbuster!) I believe the producers blew the majority of the budget on the enormous logistical nightmare of moving the crew, actors and equipment all over the African jungles and deserts. Other bad points are the pacing, which is quite slow and dull, I found I was actually looking forward to going to the can to get away for a few minutes! The acting is nothing to write home about either, nor are the few battle sequences which aren't exciting or realistic. I also found that the plot didn't always make sense, it appears the video version I watched was chopped and cut from the original. In the end I didn't care as I didn't really give a toss about the characters or the movie in general.

In short the only redeeming feature to this film is the interesting location work (which the producers claim to be the first people to shoot a movie there), but this alone couldn't save this turkey. I only recommend this film to the die hard war movie buffs, but even then don't expect too much.

Simply Amazing!!
8 April 2005
This is by far THE greatest concert ever staged by Queen! Filmed when they were at their peak and with all their classics songs this is a must have for every Queen fan or any music lover at that!

All the great tracks are here including - "a kind of magic", "I want to break free", "Another one bites the dust", under pressure" plus a few of their lesser known songs(to non Queen fans anyway) like "in the lap o the gods" and "is this the world we created". Oh and I can't forget the legendary "Bohemian Rhapsody".

The DVD version is amazing, you can almost feel the atmosphere of the crowd in your lounge room! This DVD made me wish I was born a few years earlier so that I could have attended such a magnificent entertainment spectacle!! Also contained some interesting interviews and behind the scenes doco.

In summary, a must have for anybody who appreciates great music!

Now if only I could invent a time machine...

The most boring O.S.S raid of all time!
8 April 2005
This is one of those films you see for sale for 2 bucks or something cheap like that, boy I regret handing over that 2 bucks!

I'll start this review by pointing out all the bad features of this film, and there are a few! First of all it looks like it was made on NO budget, the editing is poor, the direction is poor, the acting is poor, the sound effects dodgy and all the actors get around in seventies style hair cuts!

The plot(which confused me at times)centers around a group a Yugoslavian partisans whose objective is to destroy a vital bridge which would effectively cut of oil supplies to the German Army. Thrown into this clap trap is a greedy bounty hunter (complete with mullet and pork chop sideburns!),a traitor and an old man who won't do it to his wife anymore! Oh and before I forget there's an OSS agent or two kicking around but I can't remember them doing anything in particular.

Now to the good points, well apart from one alright looking battle scene involving an armoured train and partisans on horse back, this film has nothing good going for it! If you value your life don't waste 90 minutes of it by watching this.

In summary I want my 2 dollars back! Avoid this stinker like the plague!

Up the Diggers!
8 April 2005
An interesting Aussie film about three mates who join the Army together and end up fighting the Afrika Korp at Tobruk.

I give this film such a high rating because it is one of only a handful of movies that tell the tale of the Diggers at war.I believe there should be more movies about the efforts of the Aussie soldier in WWII and the great job that they did. It also does a far better job of telling the story about the legendary rats of Tobruk then the later Richard Burton movie "The Desert Rats" (although a good film itself).

I recommend this film to all Australians and any war movie buffs out there, that is if you can find a copy of it!
