The Foreigner (2017)
Based on the novel, The Chinaman
I liked this movie so much, I got the ebook and linked it up with the audiobook. I loved Jackie Chan as this small elderly Vietnamese man who is overlooked, underestimated and dismissed by everyone he contacts regarding the terrorist attack which cost him the last of his family. The novel made a little more sense because it takes place when "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland were still going on. I've read the book, now I want to see the movie again.
Greased Lightning (1977)
Black Champion in NASCAR
This movie dramatizes the life story of Wendell Scott (1921-1990) the first black champion in NASCAR who is in the Hall of Fame since 2015. He was a lifelong resident of my mother's hometown of Danville VA. He developed his driving skills running moonshine whiskey up and down the hills out in the country. This trade gave quite a few early stock car racers their education in building fast cars and outrunning the police. He faced many challenges, dangers and hardships due to racism but persevered to pursue the sport he loved. The banning of Confederate Battle flags at NASCAR events is in today's news. In light of that, there is a scene involving a flag that made me laugh.
Columbo: No Time to Die (1992)
Different From The Usual Columbo
I love the show and have watched many episodes of it. This episode was different from any I have seen but I enjoyed it. It didn't follow the usual formula of murder committed followed by Columbo outwitting the murderer. It was more like an episode of Criminal Minds with our hero being more of a team player. It felt more like a thriller and even though Peter Falk was older in this, it was action-oriented and he was in on the action. I also enjoyed the emotional connection of family and friends including Columbo's nephew and all their fellow police officers. It was romantic from the point of view of the bride and groom which was a nice touch for me.
Unstoppable (2004)
I liked the romantic side.
I am not a big fan of action films just for the sake of seeing violence. I liked the romantic side of this film. I appreciated seeing Jacqueline Obradors as the police officer/love interest in the film. She was a strong independent woman and she stood by her man. He referred to her as his sister, the sister of his best friend. He had wanted to marry her long before but the tragedy that happened with her brother prevented him from going forward.
She stuck with him through all his emotional problems as well as through the incident in this movie.
I never cared for her character in NYPD Blue but I really liked her here.
I was rooting for Wesley Snipe's character and her to have a chance at a life together.
