Shotgun Wedding (2022)
1 star? Come on...
I can't even take 1 star reviews seriously. I enjoy deep movies and mind bending stories as much as the next guy but this one is far from 1 star.
Nice action, enough funny bits, Jennifer Coolidge being absolutely enjoyable in her little scenes, great chemistry between Lopez and Josh Duhamel. The story doesn't have to be believable to be fun and even though the story was predictable... come on this is fun!
Also, much bigger kill count than I expected from a movie like this.
I'm not really a fan of Jennifer Lopez, but the movie was pure fun.
IGNORE the 1 star reviews. ''Shotgun Wedding'' is enjoyable and entertaining to say the least.
The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015)
Not what you'd expect, still SO good
We rarely get horror period movies. This one is certainly not a slasher, not gory, but it really is disturbing and plays with the mind the best way possible.
The whole cast does an excellent job. Anya is outstanding.
Must watch if you're up for a psychological horror movie that will stay with you for a while.
The Batman (2022)
Really great... could be excellent
Batman is on his second year. We get no origin and that's a bit refreshing. I think I was the only one completely bored with the majority of ''Batman Begins''.
For starters, the cast was excellent.
Robert Pattinson is such a great choice. He plays a stiff but determined Batman, who is still trying to figure things out. An emo version of the hero. The whole tone of the movie is a bit dark (or emo if you will).
Zoe Kravitz is good but Catwoman is such a pointless character in this. The majority of her scenes are pointless and we don't get much action from this cat. Paul Dano is superb and Colin Farrell is so, so good.
The whole movie is a great. Great serial killer story, great cinematography, nice overall tone but it could be shorter. I feel like with this movies the studios and directors feel like anything shorter than 2 hours is a failure.
Also, it baffles me as to why they cut Batman's superb interaction with Joker at Arkham.
Anyway, all in all, its a really great start of a new trilogy. Could be much better, but its a solid 7.
Windfall (2022)
An ok movie begging to be shorter
Well... it's not a bad movie. The beginning and the climax are interesting but everything between feels like a ''we have to write scenes to make this longer'' move.
The performances were great. Really great. It's just that it starts as a nice thriller-ish movie but evolves into a kinda boring slow-burn before the ending. The score didn't help either. It made me feel like I was watching a dark comedy / thriller, especially during the first half.
Malignant (2021)
Really not what you'd expect
Well, I had read the plot and thought ''ah, a nice horror / fantasy movie''. A woman has visions of murders only those murders are happening in reality. Sounds awesome.
All was well until the truth was starting to unfold. Then the video tape happened and along came my first true shock. The last act, especially from the prison scene and on, was so gory you can't not be entertained (and a bit disgusted, if you're not a lover of horror films).
Direction and cinematography were so good and the soundtrack was brilliant. Solid performances by the cast and the, oh so gorgeous, Annabelle Wallis.
It's a great movie. It's a great, disgusting, f***ed up movie that definitely keeps you hooked until the very end. A bit over the top? Yes. Entertaining? Also yes.
Do I have unanswered questions after the ending? Yes, quite a few. But still...
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Surprisingly captivating
Starring only two people in one setting (their house), I wasn't expecting a masterpiece but trailer had me hooked and the whole thing seemed interesting.
I put it on to play while I was working on the laptop and suddenly I was captivated. Black and white makes the people stand out and their performances are great (they are also both stunningly beautiful). The whole movie is basically one big fight, so normal and so exaggerated at the same time, with all the breaks, the pauses, the deep cuts a normal fight between two people in love would have. It makes you feel and remember emotions from your life even if your background is not similar to theirs, you will feel them.
Overall, it's a nice work, its different than most movies out there and this is what it makes it stand out. Zendaya and John David Washington are so great without being too much, they make it feel like an everyday couple having a fight.
7/10 because the couple is great and it all feels natural and real.
Bachelorette (2012)
Solid 5
I indeed thought this was a ''Bridesmaids'' type of comedy but before I started watching I read some reviews so I went in kinda prepared. It's not that much of a comedy, but its not too much drama... does this make sense?
So my question is, if this is not a late night comedy, and the main girl is not a bubbly girl living in her own world, why is she friends with the three mean girls? And if the three mean girls don't like Becky, why are they even pretending to be friends? Why are they her bridesmaids?
And if this is a drama, why does it not have a climax? The girls that ripped the wedding dress while making fun of the bride behind her back, why do they suddenly have everything fixed in the end and the story ends with the four girls dancing carelessly?
If this was sold as a movie about the ''secret'' lives of three mean girls, I'd take it. I'd even rate it higher. Now we have three great actresses starring in a film that feels unfinished or unsure of what its genre is, with an unnecessary amount of profanity just to shock or to cause some laughs.
Rated 5 for the cast, for some stories that developed quite good, because an all-night adventure is always kinda fun and, well, because even though core of the story doesn't make sense, it does keep you interested just to be disappointed by the ending.
