Could have been good
7 August 2022
Visually appealing but ultimately lacking true substance. Dialogue was rough and plot was not only incoherent, it was non-existent. It had potential but it fell flat due to the fact that it felt less like a story and more like a jumbled array of random scenes poorly written leading to a predictable and lazy outcome.

Not how I remembered
16 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the cheesiest slasher films I have ever seen and in the worst way. This rips off some elements of the Elm Street film, which only came out months before, so how quickly was this film made? There are SOOOOO many scenes--the dream clinic, the dreams, the boiler room, the burned man, the body being dragged-- not to mention the "Happy Birthday to Me" ending. The dialogue was cheesy to the point of cringe and there is a scene that mentions assault that just takes us away from the narrative in the worst way while then never properly addressing it again and even joking insensitively about it. Why?

Pros? The tension was built well by the over-arching script. Despite horrendous dialogue, there is a charm about the way the story unfolds, unlike most hack-n-slash horror from those days.

But this is one of the most tedious and ridiculous slashers I've seen as of late. The kills don't truly start until we're two thirds finished with the film and most of them are just lackluster. They weren't bad but they also were typical and not at all surprising.

If you're not super familiar with the genre, you may find more excitement here than a seasoned fan.

Lots of fun
24 May 2022
This has everything you'd expect from a 70s slasher about a group of adult filmmakers. Had no idea where the story was going but I was pleasantly surprised by the final outcome. The script was clever, the acting was fine, the kills delivered, the aesthetic was perfect. Top tier slasher film.

Underrated
15 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Misunderstood. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a good film but isn't a great one. While not perfect, I think the strengths overcome the flaws. What separates this from a film like "Unfriended" is the depth of the message it provides about social media and the need to be noticed. This isn't particularly scary as it is thrilling. It's way over-the-top, Kurt isn't believable as a character, and the dialogue is a balance of cleverness and cringe but somehow the film is still fun.

Not bad
11 April 2022
I imagine back in the 90s, the CGI would have been considered more effective. That's why I believe horror films shouldn't rely on CGI for scares. That being said, this was an entertaining, tense film that had some very creepy moments. It's a little outdated but that's alright- its grounded, has a strong story, and doesn't (often) rely on cheap tricks for jumps.

Wonderful film - I almost want to call it "interesting"
11 April 2022
Some very hilarious moments entwined with some tender heart-felt scenes and wonderful characters. Wonderful acting, some familiar faces in early roles, talented cast and directing.

Hidden gem

Wasn't expecting much going into this. Didn't know what it was about, or even that it was inspired by actual events. Heartwarming story, it was a pleasure to see.

Nice sequel
26 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It could have gone wrong so many ways but this is actually a decent sequel. The whole feel of the film is different from the first but that's okay- it's still a lot of fun. Hard to make the man from the first actually kinda a likable character. He's still a monster but he's her only hope. Fun film with some interesting twists and turns. Kind of hoping there's a third.

What...
12 March 2022
Just... at some point while watching this I asked myself "am I supposed to be laughing so much at a Saw film?". Watch this for the kills, which are the only good part about this film. Super predictable, forgettable, nonsensical, with such bad acting from such a bad script. I've seen bad Saw films but this has to be the worst.

Fantastic
4 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the play was sort of ludicrous- how did that get approved? Why didn't staff stop the fighting? Were all of those sets in the school budget?

But despite all of that, I teared up when Rue kissed Jules on the forehead. The writers could have ruined this show and instead have made it one of the best "teen" dramas on television, although to truly understand the themes and the emotions that are trying to be conveyed you must have a mature sort of mindset. There are some heavy topics in this but the ones that I admire the most are the downfall and redemption of Rue. The characters all revealed another side of themselves (except for maybe Kat, and even her arc made a difference) built off of their arcs in season one and our perspectives of them change so drastically. That's what's great about this show- it doesn't cater to fans about character fates- the characters are allowed to change and grow. It's here to send a message and it does it so poetically and beautifully. Season 3 cannot come soon enough. Great job you guys!

Was NOT expecting that twist. My heart broke... again, of course, because this show is has been rough on my emotions. One of the best miniseries that I've seen in a long time.

Powerful storytelling and characters with many layers. Loved every minute of it. The cast did a phenomenal job. The script was clever. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. Never a dull moment or a wasted scene. Made me feel like shouting off a hill, bending toward the sun.

Doesn't feel like Fear Street
2 July 2021
This is okay. It doesn't feel like Fear Street to me- Fear Street was less about the gruesome methods of murder and more about the sinister side of mankind and it's twist endings. This is a Stranger Things template with Fear Street just filling in the details. Nosebleeds and all. This film is all about the nineties feel but that wasn't what us fans loved about the series. I think people who haven't read the series would enjoy this more than those who have. Its for fans of Stranger Things who like bloody things... and compared to Stranger Things, it's just okay. It's cringe at times, unfortunately. Better luck next time. Worthy effort.

The books didn't have a lot of sex, cursing, drugs- they had plot. Adding those things doesn't make the content more mature. It just didn't have what the books had- the twist endings and twisted characters and the different plights- it felt like it was trying to be Stranger Things, Euphoria, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, and it was failing at all of them.

Creative concept
2 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The concept is what drew me in to begin with and although the journey was definitely not expected, I still felt underwhelmed by the series finale. What of the detective investigating the doctor? What of the eerie cult? I felt as if there were things left unanswered and it was frustrating.

Sweetest horror film
7 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film was gory, tasteless, and warm. I have never seen such an adorable horror film. Not meant to be taken seriously, with huge plot holes and a script that had more potential, this film has its problems and they're major. However, Lupita Nyong'o and Alexander England are a good duo and Forsythe did a wonderful job directing it. This is like a family friendly film for adults- lot of gore and crude humor- but a lot of heart as well. Really enjoyed this!

Great plot twists and characters
10 April 2021
Wow. What an amazing tale- I was riveted, from start to finish. The twists and turns were enthralling and each of the characters became favorites. What a clever little tale. Not for the faint of heart, this isn't a show for kids, despite having two young lead characters. The themes this show presents are deep and visceral. Quite an experience, as a whole.

Thank God I only have to watch that once
10 April 2021
I knew within the first ten minutes that this would be an awful movie and still I continued to watch. I'm so glad that I only had to watch that once. I was uncomfortable the entire time-- there were a couple of instances where the jokes landed so well and I thought "Oh, this is a good sign" but then the next scene the same joke was played out in a different way but worse because we just saw the joke played out five minutes prior. This happened so many times-- too many. McCarthy... you starred in "The Heat" and "Spy"... you're better than this. Nothing but fart and fat jokes-- shamelessly and tastelessly executed. There was no chemistry between Spencer and McCarthy either. Spencer and Bateman, you're also better than this, but insultingly. I don't know what possessed them to take a role in this farce. I was uncomfortable at first and then I became numb and then I ended up laughing at how horribly fast everything plummeted. Waste of time and resources. This plot had so much potential and it was wasted. Four stars is a high rating, in my opinion. Just skimming the surface here: I haven't even gone into detail as to why I disliked this film-- and it's not worth it.

Such a wonderful show
24 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, yes, the ending is a hard pill to swallow (ahem) but it is also poetry and realistic and shouldn't that, above all, matter most in fiction? Jackie was an addict, through and through, and her tale is more a cautionary tale than a fairy tale. Everyone wants to know whether she lived or died but no one is asking the important question: what happens to those affected by her decisions? The very team she inadvertently taught compassion to are the same who are to save her from herself. Do you believe these people, who have spent the entire show saving others, have the capacity to save her? And if they can't, will they be able to save themselves during the aftermath?

Such a brilliant, quickly little show. I'm so sad that it's over. Thank you!

Genius jokes- some of them are outdated and would be considered bold (or plain disrespectful) attempted today- but it was also the times so I don't hold that against this show. The five comedians work well together and there were times I couldn't stop laughing. Wonderful show.

Better than Until Dawn imo. The story is fantastic and the ending made me think. This game is tense and mysterious and intriguing. Gameplay, Until Dawn excels, but story wise this one takes the medal.

Love the irony of it all-- that the place they went to to learn how to survive is also a dangerous place for them all. Short film-- not spectacular but also not bad.

Wasn't expecting it
21 July 2020
I must admit, after a grueling season I wasn't expecting the killer to be who they were- although very surprising, I found that I was too frustrated by the end to truly appreciate the twist. This could have all been avoided if they'd gone to the police in the first place. And the twist with Marcus... I just... I don't understand...

Beautiful
6 July 2020
I think the people that disliked the ending were either a) confused about what was actually going on or b) like me, looking for answers, unaware of the twisted web weaved by the writers.

Fortunately, although there were many questions that weren't answered, I thought the ending fit perfectly. This show is one of the best shows I've ever seen- as a whole. Must see for film and television buffs.

This is Perfection, with a capital P. Everything else on television pales in comparison. Literally the best show I've ever seen- start to finish. What a beautiful, introspective, hard-hitting story. Where do I go from here?

Beautiful film. Takes off from the start and doesn't let up. I was in tears several times. They don't make films like this anymore so seeing a picture like this is so refreshing.
