Fargo (1996)
What a flick!
If you haven't seen this movie, do yourself a favour and see it. It is very well put together and the plot is constantly evolving into a deeper shade of creepiness. At times scary (not in the horror movie sense) and quite rich in dark humour, this is one of those movies that gives you a weird felling inside even an hour after its over. The music is quite appropriate and unlike Scarface, is timeless. The camera work is usually quite basic but whoever directed the photography had the enjoyable habit of giving us interestingly artistic segways between scenes. This is the first film so far that I've given a 10 out of 10. I was going to give it a 9, but I couldn't think of a reason to take any points from perfect.
Frida (2002)
Superb
I had never heard of this movie until my girlfriend brought it over for us to watch. Reluctanly, I agreed to give it a shot. I was very impressed with what I saw. It is an emotional roller-coaster with excellent character development. I especially enjoyed Alfred Molino's performance. I don't recall her name, but I remember being surprised when I learned that this film was directed by a woman. That got me thinking..... .....its not too often that you see a female director. Nonetheless, the direction of this movie is one of its stronger points, so she obviously did a fantastic job. I think its worth mentioning that this flick has got a lot of quirky camera work- the director of photography was quite instrumental in setting the mood in Frida. I would go so far as to call this movie 'A Masterpiece.'
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)
Not worth watching. Seriously.
This is not only the worst Star Trek movies ever made (I have seen them all), but indeed one of the worst sci-fi movies ever put on the silver screen. Upon its completion they should've realized how bad it was and not bothered releasing it. In its weak plot, the Enterprise is stolen by Spock's half-brother Sybok and brought to the centre of the galaxy to meet 'God'. In the Star Trek universe, this isn't possible. The only decent aspect of this film was the sub-plot of Captain Kla's pursuit of the Enterprise. Even Kla is one of the weakest Klingon roles I've seen. Certainly no Commander Kruge or General Chang. I'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming towards any screen that was playing this movie.
