Open Season (2006)
Absolutely horrible!
I always thought that high-budget, 3D-animation movies, would never fall so down to be desperate efforts to make money without a story, without humor, without good actors, without anything. Heck, even Martin Lawrence playing a lead role, didn't discourage me of going to the theater. But I was wrong. This is a sad, sad film.
The acting was very poor. It's hard to say this for an animated film but it's true! Martin Lawrence just cannot act. It's true! His character was unBEARable (pun intended)! Ashton Kutcher's buck was sort of OK, I guess, but the rest of the cast should consider some serious voice-acting lessons.
And what was supposed to be funny in this film? The plot was so boring, I almost fell asleep! Come to think of it a brief smile for ONE moment was all it got from me. Forget about laughing. Only one scene worthy of a single smile is what it would get from you.
The 3D animation was done pretty good and I feel sorry for the guys that worked on it. They didn't deserve being part of this bull*&!% of a movie.
Consider staring at the wall for an hour and half, before watching this movie. Hey, at least staring at wall is free!
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Well that was hurried over!
If you're not a huge HP fan, don't expect too much of this movie. And if you haven't read the book don't expect to understand what's going on.
The plot is totally hurried over. There are vital parts and characters that are missing. They just cannot fit the book in two and a half hours. And it didn't turn out as a fast action movie. More like a series of sketches based on the book.
Also the actors were bad in my opinion. And 16-year-olds Radcliffe and Grint are just to big and mature to play 14-year-old boys like Harry and Ron. (Pretty soon Elijah Wood would be a better choice for HP than Radcliffe) Also I think I've seen this Voldemort guy in several movies playing extra-terrestrials! Now what was that all about?! It totally didn't fit the rest of the movie.
Cho Chang was well chosen, and the Ball scene was pretty good, but these were the only good things. Well some effects too...
As a whole there are a large number of really short unlinked scenes sharing the same characters. The plot bounces up and down and... I'm starting to repeat myself. 4/10 no second thoughts! As I said: If you're a huge fan - go and see it, and you'll probably like it. But if not, think again!
Pi (1998)
Waste of time...
It is indeed a stupid movie... It's whole idea could be assembled in a 10 minute short documentary without any black-and-white-director-vision-mambo-jumbo.
I didn't like it. I almost fell asleep watching it (and I do that extremely rarely).
The main character is trying to find patterns in different areas which use numbers mainly in the stock market. And it looks like he's going to find the unique pattern with which the whole world could be explained (yeah right). It's some number with two hundred and whatever digits. He uses some lame excuse for a computer and he is crazy and has migraine... blah blah etc etc Don't watch this film. Better go out for a meaningless walk. It'd still be less pointless than this movie.
PS I gave it 2/10 because if the math part would be assembled in a 10 minute short documentary it would be worth watching.
David Copperfield (2000)
Definitely worth watching!
This film captures the idea of the book so good. There are a few flaws though like having no child actor for Steerforth and no teenage actor for David himself and cutting of some not significant plot parts but let the one who is without sin com forth and speak :)
Generally it's one of the best films made after a famous book. The actors are excellent the music is great... It can throw you in Dickens's novel as if you're there. If you liked this movie and haven't read the book go out there and buy it from the nearest bookstore and you'll find out much more about the characters.
7/10 - no second thoughts (btw for a TV film this is huge)
