I'll Be Gone in the Dark (2020–2021)

Not Awe Inspiring
21 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I get the feeling I am supposed to awe inspired by a woman who became obsessed with a serial killer and then wrote about the ordeal of the victims into an ego fueled book and miniseries. I feel the victims who spoke in the series were added as an after thought as the series is more about cops don't care and citizen detectives who care, supposedly, more. And... what husband says, okay sweetie, I'll steal my mother's drugs so you can OD. Sorry, I know I'm supposed to be super impressed because of the celebrity of the widower but it's a no go. It's really a sad, non-awe inspiring story about a woman who took the unimaginable pain of surviving victims and created a story about herself.

Just Fun
3 October 2016
Is the plot Swiss cheese? Yes. Does the plot even make sense? No. Does the plot go in one direction then do a high speed, tire squealing doughnut on the highway to go a different direction? Yes. But...the actors are attractive, if not Academy Award level actors, and I came to like them. I liked the scenery and I thought the plane was cool. The good guys were really good and the bad guys were really bad and at least one character was allowed to be both. It was pure escapism and what is wrong with that? It reminded me of games we played as children. In my neighborhood we would devise these plot ridden games, mostly involving someone evil taking over the neighborhood and we would fight that evil. Our story line changed constantly and rarely made sense but we had fun. It's okay to have fun.

Eve ruined it
23 May 2016
I loved the trip to Africa but really feel Eve McGregor joining the trip brought tension to Charlie's and Ewan's relationship and their rapport seemed forced through much of the trip. I said to my screen, "Gee McGregor grow a pair and tell her no", but he didn't listen and even defends the decision by suggesting her addition brought kittens, rainbows and unicorns to the trip meaning she was just so down to earth and helpful to all the people they encountered that her presence was a gift.

With the addition of Mr. McGregor's father, brother and mother, this series seemed to be all about pleasing Mr. McGregor; not about filming a buddy travel film and that is a shame.
