Hevi reissu (2018)
For the heads
Generally speaking, when pop culture tries to portray metal culture, or metalheads, or even just extreme music, it ends up being, at best, something vague that gestures in our direction. But this full length professional film did metal right. I was surprised too.
Saved! (2004)
decent teen comedy with lots of potential and great cast
This flick wasn't a bad way to kill an hour and a half. The casting was great and the basic premise was a really good idea. Not to mention Eva Amurri. I enjoyed it and laughed at several parts.
One thing I didn't like about it, which has been mentioned before, is the neat rigidity with which all the characters fit in to their roles. Although at one point the film tries to give a message about how all things aren't black and white, all the characters sure do seem to be.
My other big problem with the film is the typical boring incremental leftism espoused throughout. It seems like the movie is made specifically for teenage Xians in a fundamentalist environment so that they can safely rebel while keeping their worldview intact. The biggest failure with Saved is that it stops short of taking it's line of thinking to any kind of logical end. It fails to explore agnosticism, atheism, paganism, or even wrestle with any real dilemmas within Christianity. The furthest it goes is a 3rd grade level critique of the inherent hypocrisy of the church(es).
The movie had great potential to step outside of the "everyone is different" plot line, but even though it didn't, it still had plenty of funny moments and a great cast.
