American Horror Stories: Aura (2022)
AHS at it's best
The couple itself was horror enough. Lol.
The lead pair was odd.
They were a lot scarier than the ghoul.
Jk Jk
Really nice episode. Very scary indeed.
Nice neighborhood too. Gated community and all.
The Batman (2022)
Boring
Too long, too woke, thankfully I didn't watch it on the bigscreen. Feels like a low budget rehash of the classic batman franchise. Doesn't even come close to Nolan and Bale's trilogy.
Aranyak (2021)
Simply fantastic
Great show. Fantastic performances by all characters. Nice to see Raveena Tandon Parambrata Chatterjee and Aashutosh Rana after a long time. Very well written.
The Ridiculous 6 (2015)
We need more such films
Absolutely hilarious. Keep your brains aside while watching and let the movie wash over you. All the usual comedians are in the cast, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider et al.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Surprisingly good
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are at the top of their game, they have very good chemistry and comic timing. Supported well by a good story, fast paced writing and a good supporting cast.
Go for it.
The Harder They Fall (2021)
Watch with very little expectations
Watch if you have watched everything else and you want to watch an 'alternate' western. It starts promisingly, but is a let down and by the end you want all characters to die. Too long, poor action choreography, out of place soundtrack and nonsensical slow-mo camera work.
Turning Point: 9/11 and the War on Terror (2021)
First 3 episodes good, last 2 bad
Typical anti-American pro-leftist propaganda series.
Avoid.
State of Siege: Temple Attack (2021)
Brilliant
Superb story and direction
Great acting by Akshay Khanna
To the point. No beating around the bush.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
This franchise has run it's course
A very disappointing movie. I thought I was watching a comedic spoof of the original. To be honest, after The Conjuring I & II, none of the other movies in the series come even close. This one doesn't even have any cheap loud volume scares. Watch it if you have nothing else to do.
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)
Unexpectedly funny
Started watching this movie as it came up on the prime videos suggestions. It's hilarious.
Go for it.
Knives Out (2019)
A whole new James Bond
It starts off almost as a Poirot type comedy whodunit, but evolves into a dark well executed murder mystery with so many plot twists, it keeps you on your toes even when you think it's all over. Stellar star cast in whole new avatars, great acting and screenplay.
It's a must watch. I don't know how I missed it, but I came across it on an OTT platform.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Best finale ever
I'm a big Rambo / Stallone fan, I don't care how this movie's rated.
I simply love it
Grown Ups (2010)
Totally unexpected
When is started this movie I was expecting the usual Sandler Schneider brand of slapstick humor.
The ratings didn't help either.
But I was surprised to see a heart warming family comedy. Just when you think it's gonna get messy, they just pull back a little.
I don't know how I missed it for 10 years.
Don't go by the ratings, just enjoy it.
The Wall (2017)
Watchable
Just about watchable, very poor ending. Why an American director would keep such an ending is beyond my understanding. Movies about veterans shouldn't have such content. Very unamerican.
American Assassin (2017)
Entertaining watch
This movie was on my list for a while, finally decided to see it. Good entertaining stuff, lots of action. I never read the book, so cannot comment on the similarities.
But Hollywood is as usual trying to whitewash islamic terror and go the 'rogue white agent' trying to incite a nuclear war route. Leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth.
Class of 83 (2020)
A good entertainer
Bobby Deol and a fresh batch of artists have done a good job. A bit rushed in places, the movie makes for a good one time watch.
Khuda Haafiz (2020)
A must watch
A very different Vidyut Jamwal in an understated and subdued character. Actors like him should be given their dues in the film industry.
Gulabo Sitabo (2020)
Soggy like a vest after a day's workout
Good thing that producers have online platforms to release movies these days, or else the distributors would have been on for a huge loss.
Undercooked story, slow and shoddy screenplay, poor unfunny dialogues, overacting by AB (can barely make out what he is saying, and totally dependent on subtitles) and the list goes on. Only positives were AK and a string of supporting characters.
Halfway the writer forgot if he was trying to make a comedy or a drama.. And the result is gulabo sitabo.
Please keep your expectations low.. And sit through it, only and only because there is no cinema releasing in theatres no live sports due to the pandemic.
Killing Gunther (2017)
A very different Arnie movie
A very different action comedy, also has elements of 'found footage'. I was surprised by the poor rating. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, although Arnold arrives a bit late in the picture.
Please watch with an open mind and don't pay heed to the reviews.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
An apt sequel
Sometimes the sequel is better than the first one. Enjoy the ride
Ghost Stories (2020)
Drivel
Please don't waste your time. Much better shows on Netflix.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Most watchable horror movie in recent times
IT Chapter 2 explorers the hidden fears of 7 childhood friends who in their preteen years had 'defeated' Pennywise the evil clown (but not killed). 27 years later, IT returns once again to terrorise the small town of Derry and one by one the children, now adults, reluctantly return to their hometown for one final showdown, this time to finish the job. The movie is filled with the usual sound and visual effects seen in every horror flick, but also gives each character individual time to explore their suppressed fears and anxieties which IT uses to it's own benefit when hunting children.
VFX are awesome quality alongwith the sound. Dialogues provide comic relief in few tense moments.
It's an apt treatment of the Stephen King classic by Andy Muschietti.
Only downside of the movie is its 2hr 49 min runtime, which leads to slow pacing after halftime.
Overall, a fantastic movie which combines elements of typical sound and effects, slashers, enough blood and gore, yet forces you to think and empathise with the character's childhood fears.
Hold the Dark (2018)
Pointless and confusing
Movie starts out well but turns really mediocre and confusing after about 30 mins. No real mystery except the intention and motives of the characters.
Badly made and i wouldn't recommend wasting time on it.
Sacred Games (2018)
Shocked, Awed and want some more
Never have I seen an Indian tv show which is so gritty and feels so real. Author backed roles lead to great development of each character as we go on. Some unexpected moments and some really shocking ones as some characters are killed off.. No holds barred approach of direction, dialogues and screenplay gives an immense experience. I wish the makers don't amp down in the subsequent seasons to include a wider audience. Some stuff should be left for only adults to watch.
