Spider-Man (2002)
not the perfect comic book hero movie
You want Spiderman, this is not Spiderman mythology, it's all wrong, where's Gwen, why take Mary Jane instead? Good series of mistakes all along the whole trilogy and maybe these are truly block busters but true comic book readers can't accept this. Personally i dislike it and well, even the bad effects (during the first part of the movie) are part of it. Maybe errors happen but if you want to see a perfect comic book movie go watch Sin City or 300, this is not Spiderman. Same thing i could say about way to re-script th3 comic book mythology with all that happened with the clone saga or the end of marriage thank to a bunch of so called writers to reboot the franchise on written stripes. Baddest of all bad ideas. Enough with Kraven's family enough with deaths in the family "escamotage". Maybe i'm just one of the few thinking like this but here's my two cents about.
Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (2010)
Bad bad bad
This movie is on screens right now in Italy so I hurt myself truly bad in watching this. Before I start just two words, Dylan Dog comic in Italy is like Spiderman's in the States, that kind of popularity. If you cringed watching Spiderman 3 with all that venom crap (I did) the same feeling is here with this movie. Sorry, this is not Dylan Dog, this is a barely watchable action horror movie with some extravaganza but it's not Dylan Dog, one of the best seller Italian comic book, scripted by Tiziano Sclavi, a true genius.
This movie is a bad example of film making related to a comic book, it's about wasting money without even knowing the original story, the mythology and last but not least all the characters. Miscasting maybe, fast production or simply they didn't know what to do with this subject. The main flaws:
- We have no Groucho, it's impossible to see Dylan Dog without his natural ironic iconic assistant Groucho. - No Xarabas (Dylan's father and his main nemesis as well). - No London (instead we have New Orleans, nice, but it's not London) we see a Scotland Yard mug on his desk, maybe just an hint or simply some good stuff for trivia games. Probably this is the most relevant hint about a weak production, filming in Europe would cost immensely. - Brandon Routh.
Brandon Routh, he's not Dylan Dog, it's pretty difficult to see him without the red cape and even that movie was bad. Maybe this happened cos no Italian production was enough powerful to make a movie like this and selling the rights is always a bad idea when there's no knowledge of facts, no story depth and again we are too much far from the essence of the comic book captured perfectly by Sclavi's visions. All got ruined all along this movie, you put a young good looking cast, all iconic monsters but this not enough. For a better result go watch Dellamorte Dellamore a.k.a. The cemetery Man, first vision of Sclavi, Dylan Dog takes shape on Dellamorte Character and there's no mistake. In the end of each tale Dylan Dog remains always full of doubts and insecure while Grouch keeps his Irony.
Once again a complete waste of time, money and resources just to show. Bad, even worse of what I expected. Unfortunately this movie goes with all those bad exercises like The hulk movies, Ultraviolet, the Spiderman trilogy, Fantastic Four's, Superman Returns and so on. Watch only it if you don't know anything about Dylan Dog.
H2Odio (2006)
well conceived, well directed, good music but...
I watched this movie on DVD since it was not released to cinema but directly on DVD supports as commercial choice made by the director Infanscelli. Infascelli gets the right mood filming this story using only actresses. They go on a little island to perform the water cure, some sort of extreme diet using only water, i mean drinking only water, staying together, trying maybe to open their minds, expanding their knowledge into nature and other sorts of things. I liked this story until i recognized something, the dead twin, absorbed by the other that is the one alive, a concept used in many other novels even by Stephen King in one of its most famous book. Once you understand this, all magic seems to disappear but still remains a good exercise in style and in music as well.
As good as the premises are and the end of magic comes, you see the main character in front of a mirror discovering her dead twin's rest, a tooth in her upper arm, she then understands other things becoming living revenge against all those who tried to fool her, despise her and blame her.
Good movie but not excellent, i feel like there was so much left unexplored... six out of ten!
Il brigante Musolino (1950)
One of the many lost movies
Sorry for my English but this is something i need to write. It seems to be incredible but this movie it's nowhere to be found, i know there's a flammable copy in positive at the national archive but other than that, this movie is truly impossible to be found even on tape. The last time i was able to see this movie on TV was a lot of time ago, something like 10 years ago or even more. There's something about this movie i really like, it's the old way movies like this were made. This is a story about drama, murders and revenge, it's also a story about love, tragic but love's always tragic to be true the whole story take place over the mountains in Calabria, this area is named "Sila". The movie tell a portion o life of Giuseppe Musolino who makes coke from woods to live and loves Mara, he gets in jail for a murder he never committed and after two years he evades and returns to take revenge over those who made him in jail telling lies to the police. He gets his revenge and when he decides to leave the country with his love Mara (Silvana Mangano) she gets killed by one of the mobster, he will avenge her before going to the police spontaneously. Good cast and crew and Amedeo Nazzari (the lead role of Giuseppe Musolino) makes a believable performance. Among many things to say that's possible to note there are many important figures behind the crafting of this movie, just take a look at the screenwriters and look also at the second unit director, the guy is a certain Sergio Leone, one of my favorites. I often visit many of the locations used for this movie cos i have relatives there and also even if it seems impossible there are lot of people that knows about this movie, many people of those areas were the uncredited cast for lots of scenes in the movie. It's also interesting to note how much things are really different from that time, each place where the shooting took place it's really different today, some old details remain anyway. It's truly a bad thing this movie seems to be lost, i love many kinds of movies and this is one of those, old B/W with a good story, it's a sad story btw but it doesn't matter. A real shame this film is unavailable.
