Virtually unwatchable

This is an amazing cinematic achievement. All the talent and money, and the stink of a flat, lifeless film emanates from the screen. Banal, uninteresting, but it tries so HARD! Still awful, after all these years.

A supreme case of wasted opportunity to make a difference.

I watched, with great pain, the pitifully biased and nonsensical film that attempted to elevate the discourse on real racism and its presence in our world. Well funded and full of passion,it simply shows whites as the worst people, ever. The black people in the film, ironically, came off just one half a notch less awful. Im a glass half full type,so I have more optimism than the cynic that penned this thing, but the answer to this problem is NOT to write a film that portrays whites as whiskey drinking KKK types with greasy hair and hate in their hearts. The only answer is truth. Pursue it. This is NOT the truth. Just a slant.

As time goes by,Bobs worse,Meryl is better.

Everyone has seen this film. As the yrs go by,I cant help but see how well Miss Streep commanded the screen and how utterly behind the pace fell her male lead,Robert Redford. He settled for plastic, matinée idol. Time has not been kind to his performance, for you see how he holds the movie back. So,watch, enjoy, and forgive Bob. I think he did his best. Hes just a pretty boy and always has been just that. Never so evident as in this film. The entire film is rife with Bobs liberal stands. The good news is,it is such a huge film that you can easily ignore Redford and enjoy the timeless performance from the female lead. What a country, what a story. Enjoy, just grit your teeth, every time Bob is on the screen.

I couldn't bear it in 1967 and cant bear it,now.

All the money and all the talent just circles the drain in this mess. Pretty costumes, great actors, zippy airplanes, tall buildings, nice lot shooting, and it all comes down to the fact that you are BEGGING for this to be over about an hour into it. I think we all watch it just to be respectful to Julie and Mary and Carol. This movie just flat sucks. There is NO life to it. \ Julie Andrews is NOT sexy,in any way. Shes too old for the part. MTM is very sexy, but kept under wraps for this one. She is too old, too. I know its a bit of a tongue in cheek piece, but it is a waste, all around. The music is enjoyable and in 1967,nothing on earth was less desired than a twenties themed score. Blame it on the Summer of Love. 1967 was a WILD year. This film is so utterly tame,in every single way that it just fizzed and died when it came out. I laughed my behind off when I read the reviews on Wiki. This thing was inflated and held up. In short,a very pretty, harmless sleeping pill.
